Just for next season. We only sell out one game a year anyways so it should not be a problem. That is unless we have a great season and have to welcome back all the band wagon fans.

We do have Ignatius and McKinley in PBTS in '08. Should we move those games (or at least any overflow fans from Iggy or McK- or even bandwagon fans) to the middle school field?

No -- we should cancel the games. Remember, we should not be playing games in venues that can't accommodate the crowd.

Yeah Wan, but there wasn't a problem untill some genious einstein decided to tinker with something ( OUR Stadium) that wasn't broken to begin with. What are they gonna do for seating over there now. I thought they was just gonna take some out of the middle. Now they are taking the whole end out. I knew I ddin't like this idea.

How are they going to replace these stands and where are they going to put the band now? Massillon has always stood alone. Now we are going to start copying off of colleges and other people? These people who thought of this locker room idea and the Fed "Yes" Men can go straight you know where. Starting with the BOE and Tim Ridgely. Dont need them, Dont want them. We Massillon fans need to begin a cleansing process and get rid of this filth once and for all. Whats next a bowl? A Horseshoe? A freaking DOME? Fed League?
Maybe Fred Blosser is doing the SMART thing by getting out and not so stupid after all.
Leave the stadium freaking ALONE and the program for that matter. Limit transfers, and get back to old fashioned Massillon Tiger Football and let the coach do his job then you wont need CRAP like this and the dirty politics that go with them.

People who are long time season ticket holders and telling me they are concidering NOT renewing their season tickets in the future and any if not all support of Massillon Athletics/ Dirty Politics.

What are they gonna do for seating over there now.

people will just have to sit somewhere else. considering (a) we've averaged about 9k per home game the last three years, and (b) we rarely are at capacity, there shouldn't be too many problems.

the sun will rise. life will go on.

We haven't sold out forever anyway. Yeah I go to 99.9 percent of games home and away and no one ever sits in there anyway. Maybe put the band in the other end zone I don't know it would be good for cheers having the student section and band right next to each other. No one really sits in section six on the home side so if we put them in there it would move the scattered fans over. The one problem I've always had even since I was about 6 or 7 is people sitting on the visitors side just so they can sit on the 50. I don't like it never have and never will.

All this is the doing of the team owner.
If he wants a DOME there will be a DOME.

Maybe they want the Feds to feel more at home in a smaller stadium. But all in all we are only losing 1800 seats that we don't fill anyways.

My dad buys us season tix on the 50 on the other side i gotta say it beats sitting on the 10yd line on the home side. Why does it matter where our fans sit? That's about as stupid as complaining about free things.

My comment was in reference to the other posts on this thread that are so incredibly negative!!

Personally I think the changes are AWESOME and will only enhance PBTS. Ok we lose app. 1800 seats, we HAVEN'T sold out consistently in a long time, it's still one of the largest high school stadiums around. Moving the band to the other end zone is a GOOD move in my opinion. The Middle School needs bleachers and now they will have them.

What does improving the stadium have to do with the Fed League?

Good one! Duly noted. It wasn't the grammar I was correcting but the inherent irony of the context of the post.

All this Massillon owner stuff is good comedy too. I love good conspiracy theories and you guys are working some good ones here!

Since a few 'geniouses' are throwing your comments in I'll share what I see from my vantage point.

It seems to me like the David family has close ties to and a sense of pride in the Massillon community. So they decided to pay for facilities and bring in new curriculum to the tune of $4 million, according to the newspapers. No tax dollars, no bake sale, their own money. The facilities, from what people are saying, will rival those of some colleges and the curriculum will open up many new doors to students of the school for career exploration opportunities. So...the list of postings in these forums regarding this includes:

- We're losing end zone seating
- Where will the band sit
- Who's gonna pay for maintaining these facilities?
- What are they doing with the existing locker rooms?
- Where is Obie?
- Why are they allowing Aultman to participate?
- That's not where I would put the Paul Brown museum
- Don't touch the damn stadium
- B!tch, complain, whine

Seriously folks, if that isn't good comedy I don't know what is! Then, to top it off, we have the goofball 'owner' comments. For giggles, let's attempt to move that theory forward shall we? What would be the sinister motive for the David's to do this project? World domination? Future political run for Mayor? To change our traditions and eat away at the fabric of Massillon as they are REALLY from Canton!!? Alas, we have it! So that they could influence the hiring of the new Superintendent who is a supposed friend of theirs! To borrow from the famous beer ads - BRILLIANT! So (scratching my head and pointing like Columbo) I'm supposed to believe that the David's paid $4 million for these projects in some sort of 'dirty politics' move so that they could influence the BOE and get a job for a buddy....THAT'S beautiful! Totally unbelievable and illogical but beautiful nonetheless.

Why not just give the buddy $2 mill and let him retire to Florida with his family? That would be more of win-win-win-win for everybody! The buddy could kick back in the sun, the David's would save $2 mill and not have to hear of this conspiracy theory B.S. and 'owner' talk for trying to do something good for the community and the kids of Massillon and the school wouldn't have to maintain these new facilities that take away 1,600 seats from the end zone and spoil all the traditions! Best of all, some of you clowns could live like it's still 1950 knowing that the band is sitting comfortably in the south end zone stands, the old locker rooms have duct tape keeping the water from leaking from the pipes. All the while wondering why a high school education isn't good enough to raise a family on, because after all...it was good enough in 1950 so it damn well should be good enough now!!

Merry Christmas!

The band didn't sit in the end zone in 1950. They sat in Sec 2 in front of the students. When someone (?) tried to move them to the end zone it was derided as a communist plot (I'm serious) and they stayed in Sec 2.

The band's move to the end zone was a rather recent move.

Anyhow, even in 1950 (think communist plot), things could get pretty interesting!

As much as I'd like to give him a break, another part of me wants to muzzle him until this project is finished so he can finally see what kind of awesomeness we will have!

And just for the record, 006 and some others who like to say "we" don't need or "we" don't want.........this or that....PLEASE speak for yourself only! You are not speaking for a large majority of fans and alumni that choose to not respond to such madness per the amount of personal emails that I receive through MP from people who are members of MP but never post! I will assume that the David family, amongst others, are quite intelligent to realize that on their own and ignore the negative and ungrateful comments of a few.

Upkeep to the stadium is fine. What im saying is there was and is nothing wrong with the stadium. I mean we will always be playing McKinley at home so what happens if one year we dont have enough seats because of this? What about revenue into the school system/city? The last time the band was in Sec 2 with the students if I remember right they was getting things thrown at them and there was arguments.

What are these so called plans calling for now that they have CHANGED?

While we are at it lets put Orange Neon on the high school!

Hey MT006, maybe Carle can send you his copy of "who moved my cheese", because I think it may be a good book for you to read.

As a former player, I have no problems with moving the locker room arrangments and dont see where it detracts from our identity at all. Best of all this lockerroom will be "MASSILLON ONLY" which I think is the most important. Sometimes redefining your identity, and changing/creating new tradition is not a bad thing, and if moving the locker room changes things up a little so be it.

Does any former player have a problem with this ? Because to be honest I have a real problem with someone who didnt spend their summers and fall sweating, bleeding and training in that lockerroom complaining about it being moved.

so if your current vehicle is fine and nothing is wrong with it, but i offered you a brand new lamborghini or ferrari, you'd pass it up b/c there simply isn't anything wrong with your kia?

I mean we will always be playing McKinley at home so what happens if one year we dont have enough seats because of this?

then we just won't sleep that night. then we'll wake up, realize the fine facility we're in, and move on.

dear god, i haven't seen this much resistance to chance since watching "rainman."

OMG, and people wonder why I don't post on here anymore.... I bet you feel that the band should still be wearing brass helments and the football team wearing the leather ones since that what they used in 1939?

Guess what, it's called progress! I think some of you guys need to read the book Who moved my Cheese.

For the price of the book we could buy a length of chain and a padlock. That way he could strap himself to any project he feels is wrong or unworthy, and stop the change from happening.

SuperBran-

I'll take the Ferrari...F430 please. It's my understanding that to even get on the LIST for a new F430, you have to have purchased SIX... that's right... SIX Ferraris previously. It's essentially by invitation. No joke! And, based on THAT criteria, the list several years long. In other words, the entire planned production is already sold out to existing Ferrari customers. Hope you don't mind paying $70k+ over sticker for a slightly used one with about 1,000 miles on it!

1600 tiger fan makes great points. as another former player, i also have no problem with the move of the locker room. most importantly since it will be massillon only as you stated.

gotigers1, you're right. it is about progress. we need to either move forward and improve or continue to spin our wheels and not separate ourselves from others.

i wonder if how many people complained about the construction of PBTS in the late 1930's. 006, would you have complained to Paul Brown about how out of tradition was for him to want to build a brand-new 19,000 seat stadium? after all, the tigers were playing at the palacial massillon field before that.

Good one!

If it gets us State Titles you would never hear my complain about anything ever again. However some people that I have talked to about this in pubic are just as upset. Some are however just plain pi**ed off. I wouldn't expect any levies to be passing anytime soon either. Any BOE member who is supporting this crap needs to be reminded they are ELECTED by the public and can easily be voted out of thier BOE seat. This is the nice thing about being a registered voter myself. It is however us taxpayers who will pay for the electricity and upkeep of this new locker room. I however would like to borrow a phrase off of WWE's The Rock. They can take thier shiney new glass locker room add some fancy lights turn it sideways and stick it straight up thier candy a**es.
The stadium doesnt sell out because people would rather stay home at watch it on WHS-TV. God knows they might freeze to death. I do understand however some people are not physically able to get out and support thier hometown team.
A lady told me when or if we lose the state playoffs because our stadium isnt big enough it wont be so much fun and games will it?
After the Clear Water game earlier in the month the reporter asked the Asst. OHSAA Director what determines the factors of how a venue is chosen for playing the state playoffs and the two most important things was:
1. Hospitality, Restuarants, Hotels, Etc.
2. Seating Capacity, Must be at or near 20,000 not 15 or 14,000.

Maybe if you geniuses attended the spring kick-off, you mmight have seen and heard about all the changes and the plans to recover seating if needed.

Do we really need it anymore, since we never fill it anymore?

You know we only seat 17,400 now. We used to seat over 25K at one time. But when they built the permanent endzones and gave up the track seats, we lost a ton of seating.

MTigers006 - I guess I'll chalk this up to 'we agree to disagree' on this topic. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, although I'm not exactly sure what it is SPECIFICALLY that people would be p*ssed about? Also your threats on future levies and BOE fallout is simply nonsensical. WHAT is so bad to warrant such threats? Your argument is that the loss of approximately 1,600 seats would be enough to lose the playoffs. (Surely OHSAA doesn't care where our band sits or where the team comes onto the field from - which are two of your other arguments). I would argue that the new facilities would be MORE attractive to OHSAA as the indoor facility, if the school would allow it, would make practicing before the game (but not outdoors on the stadium turf) possible and the new locker room would make a nice place for game officials to prepare for the game and for State Officials to entertain guests. What other location in Ohio could provide that? OSU stadium? THAT would look good, 5,000 people for a Div III game in a 90,000 seat stadium....LOTS of elbow room! If the playoffs are ultimately moved, it will be more for logistics reasons (i.e., Columbus) than for what Stark County could not offer via seating or amenities. I doubt that you buy this argument because it doesn't fit into your doom and gloom, the sky is falling stance. So be it. That is my opinion. Far be it for me to argue with someone who quotes The Rock... I am just thankful that I do not have to live a day in your world...it seems like a cold, dark, depressing place...

Like I said people moving out of town or watching on WHS-TV is why not many people come anymore. My point if its NOT broke DONT fix it. The stadium layout has been the same for 69 years. Why change it now?

Would you guys feel the same way you do if they said they was gonna demolish and rebuild the entire thing? Like I said, whats next? A bowl? Horseshoe, or Dome? How about heated seats because some people cant take the cold? I am one who likes to embrace the historical past while moving forward. The changes that have been made at the stadium are excellent, but I think we are begining to get too carried away here. I asked before and I will ask again. What are these plans to replace what seating is being lost and where is the drawings? I however will not change my mind and I hope the people I talked to stick with thier threats of replacing who supported the changes in the south endzone at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium. Besides I think academics are more important than endzone remodeling or athletics period and when you look behind the smoke screen its all about athletics. In short more emphasis of academics to balance between academics and athletics.

If its not broke, Dont fix it. I can hear it now when your taxes go up or when an operating levy comes up to pay for the electrity to run these facilites and thier upkeep.

God, how pathetic. OK, here goes to try and put some sense to this idiocy. First, the stadium has been the same for 69 years. That in itself would be a reason to change it. Do you think the freaking dynamics are the same as they were 69 years ago? How stupid. Second, and I know you won't relate to this but let me tell you the mentality of successful people. Instead of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it", they say "if it isn't broke, break it ANYWAY and make it better". Surely out of your realm of reasoning.

Next, you are the LAST person that should be talking about loyalty, pride to the city, and tradition. That letter you wrote to Hooters awhile back with about 165 spelling and grammatical errors certain was a prideful moment of you representing the city. Good GOD. And no you are NOT embracing the historical past while moving forward. Hell, if it were up to you we would still be at the old high school. Nice moving forward there, genius. And finally, for the 165th time we'll ask. WHAT SEATING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND WHY? THE FREAKING STADIUM IS ONLY HALF FULL ANYWAY. I know. Perhaps you can bring up some of those bleachers from the Longfellow gym you stole and use those. That should just about do it.

Now, hopefully this is the end to this insane thread and your lunacy in continuing to try and defend this moronic position.

Change merely for change's sake is worthless and costly. Change for the sake of progress is a necessity IF you really desire progress.

Too many folks on here mistake albatrosses for traditions. Maintaining a stadium with 22,500 seats is an expensive proposition, and a drain on resources when 22,500 seats are no longer needed. Yet, many fans wish we still had 22,500 seats just to say we have them.

What we needed were new locker rooms and generally updated training facilities. Part of the cost of those necessities was the loss of some unneeded seating.

Economics will dictate what happens to the stadium going forward. If additional seating is needed in the future due to bigger demand than we now have, additional seating will be added.

Its strange to me that many fans want seating we dont need and at the same time do not want to put together a permanent schedule that would go a long way towards filling the seats that arent now being filled.

Our average home attendance is now about 70% of what it was fifty years ago. 70% of 22,500 is 15,750. Without the temporary seating we used to use for McK games, the stadium capacity was around 19,000. 70% of 19,000 is 13,300.

Even without the south stands, the seating capacity will meet todays demand exactly the same as it did fifty years ago.

I'd rather see a smaller stadium filled than a larger stadium half empty. Isn't this part of the logic used to keep the championship games at massillon versus Ohio State?

I am a big Massillon fan and i think it is stuipid for them to take down the south end zone down. They need to leave it alone.

I'm amazed at the people complaining without even seeing the final product. Give it a chance!

What happen to the good old day's when we held 22,500 people. And sold all the ticket's at the Mckinley game. And when i sat at the end zone for 10 years running back and forth to each end zone. When Massillon had the ball.

Um, people moved away. The population dynamics of the city changed. The economy in NE Ohio went to hell. Sorry Nick and MTigers006, this is NOT 1980 anymore.

... The economy in NE Ohio went to hell....

That phrase can be used to answer a lot of questions, Carl.

Thanks.

It's sad but it seems that all that's left is preserving the original structure as a tribute to past tradition while modernizing the rest of the stadium somewhat like Notre Dame did when they updated their stadium.

http://und.cstv.com/facilities/nd-stadium.html

Attendance wise other than the off year for the McKinley and Ignatius type games and possibly the Division II state championship the capacity is sufficient.

How many track seats did we lose and never noticed it.

I'm not complaining about the final product at all. I could care less about the south end zones.

What I do have a problem with is certain individuals resulting to name-calling when they don't agree with an opinion.

So what if MTigers006 doesn't want the south stands removed. Just disagree with him and move on. Calling him an idiot doesn't serve any purpose.

You're right. It sure won't get him to stop. And for the record I called his posts and IDEAS idiotic, and was very careful not to call him one. The bottom line is that no matter how many times you tell this guy something, and no matter how many times you validate that he's just plain wrong he continues down these whacked paths. Sorry, Clarence. You may have the patience for stuff like this. I don't.

I'd like to remind people this is Massillon though and its a High School. Not Ohio State and we dont need no freaking Horseshoe. As I said since people want to put politics in Massillon Football where they DONT belong I will be political and as a registered voter I will remember these people on election day. Someone told me in person the plans these people have planed. I will not name that person. Earlier I made the comment about embrasing history while moving forward. Some of you didnt agree with that post. History is what your identity is established from. If you lose your history, you lose your identity. These people and these ideas are viewed upon as a cancer. I am all for stadium improvements, remodeling and upkeep. But these drastic changes can not be tolerated. Im sure with a little work on the field and off we can fill the seats as the stadium is/was. They should finish the indoor practice facility, but put back the bleachers they removed.
