Dalton man must pay nearly $50,000 after brawl in bar

http://www.indeonline.com/index.php?ID=22927&r=6&Category=3

I like how it says: "According to court papers, Lint punched the victim in the face and stomped on his leg, causing fractures." but.............the defense attorney, Haupt, said Lint didn’t intend to break the man’s leg:doh:

Kamd50,

People just need to walk away before a fight happens. Stupid mistake on the part of the perpetrator.

On that note...I don't know if you saw but there was a punk rocker who tried to challenge Xtiger to a fight before a football game and he did the right thing to not get caught up in what may have turned into a potential scuffle: http://massillonproud.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6715&highlight=converted

But I do agree with you. Think before you fight.

The moral of the story could also be "don't make racial slurs, and if you do, be prepared to get your @ss whooped".

Regardless, violence isn't the answer.

SternRulz,

I don't want to make it like I'm starting a race war, I'm just trying to follow your stance of refraining from making racial slurs. I don't know if it was a case of it being black/white or white/black but no racial slurs should have never been involved regardless. That's how stuff like this happens.

At least you never hear of Massillon residents behaving like unstable animals let alone being prejudiced.

Lint will NEVER get that paid off unless he wins the lottery.

Really? You haven't been to some of the games and some of the places I've been.

CarlE,

What is your post a reference to: "You haven't been to some of the games and some of the places I've been"?

I have never seen Massillon fans misbehave like animals in a zoo or be prejudiced toward other fans. Everywhere I have been, people have always complimented Massillon fans for their class towards the teams who have played against the Tigers.

I personally don't think you can tell me that Massillon fans have been unstable or prejudiced toward fans of other schools. But I'm open to your reaction and what you have to say.

Actually they're worse to each other. I was at a play-off game in the Rubber Bowl that we got beat. Some freaking idiot kicked a buddy of mine right under the chin because he was pissed off. That's one of about five fights with EACH OTHER I've seen. Now, at prior tailgates where former participants of this web-site got all kooky is a whole different, and sordid story. Smitty and XTiger can expand on those.

Keno, believe me some of these fans are NOT what you are positioning them to be. Believe me.

The article stated that the fight started because Lint (who is white) overheard a racial slur directed at his buddy. Not saying the dude got what he deserved, but if he would have kept his racist views to himself, he wouldn't have gotten the beatdown. Don't start none and there won't be none.

It's not "Massillon Fans", it's people in general. Surely you're not suggesting that there are no racists or racism in Massillon???

SternRulz and CarlE,

You both can pretty much wrap this one up. One stupid mistake led to a fight and here we are.

Bottom line, there are no winners in the end, just losers.

I was on this call at Miller's. Wish I could give details, but due to privacy rules and all....

Let's just say I'm in agreement with SternRulz "Don't start none and there won't be none" policy.

Can't say which, but I truely believe one of the people in that article got what they deserved.

i wouldn't say that he's a villian simply b/c he was found guilty. the guy broke the law, plain and simple. if someone says something about my wife, that doesn't give me the right to attack him and get off with no punishment.

the guy shouldn't have made the stupid comment, and was wrong in making such a statement. the guy was a fool; however, that doesn't excuse the other stupid act in this incident.

The argument isn't whether the guy had some kind of moral right to attack the other guy. The point is that even if he did, he is the one who wound up paying, getting arrested and having a record....

In a perfect world it sounds all noble protecting someone's honor, but we all know that there are consequences that follow in our society when you resort to violence.

It is just like in school, when one kid antagonizes another and then gets hit. The kid that does the hitting is the one who gets kicked out, not the antagonizer. My whole adult life I have always taught my kids to ignore such ignorant behavior and not get roped into doing something that they will end up getting into trouble over. It isn't worth it and neither are the type of people who cause such problems.

My dad (and uncles) raised me under that noble "Code of Chivalry"... a woman's honor MUST be defended. The world may not be perfect, but I'm sure-as-hell gonna do my share to get it perfect.

I'm riding the same horse as Carl; if someone says something insulting toward my "signficant other", daughter, mom, ... hell, I'd even defend my ex-wife (she is still the mother of MY offspring!!)... I'd be ready to rumble.

:MrT: I pity the fool....

i didn't mean to say that someone doesn't have a right to respond. i meant to say that we don't have a right to get off w/o punishment if we do choose to respond.
