how terribly sad for all...especially at this time of year (as if there ever is a good time...not)...

we all need to get on our knees seriously for this young lady...can you imagine what she is feeling...only God can comfort...

How tragic? I can't imagine something like this. And what are the dang odds of something like this happening?

Most merciful God,
bless all who have suffered trauma
in their lives.
Support them with love
during their time of shock.
Grace them with peace
as they wrestle with the challenges
of each day.
Sustain them in hope
as they prepare for the days ahead.
Amen.

Just another reason why the Amish shouldn't be allowed to be on the roads without some type of lights or signals to alert drivers to their presence. It isn't about their religious beliefs, it's about safety.

you cant blame that on the amish, all of us here probably drive out in amish country, maybe a couple times a month? what do you do when you approach a buggy? you slow down and check to make sure its safe to pass, if you cant see the because of a hill or blind spot you take the extra min out of your life to make sure its safe. While its a very unfortunate event i dont see how its the amish's fault this accurred

I think it's a horrible tragedy as well, but.....I saw this story on the local Fox news channel Tuesday morning and they interviewed the 17 yr-old grandaughter and she didn't seem too upset about her grandfather dying. She was smiling and saying things like, "Well, it could have been worse" and "I'm going to miss dancing with him". It was kind of strange. Did anyone else see the story?

I agree..TC..how could someone make it through an interview like that and not break down...strange indeed

I agree with you that they should have a reflector. After reading the story though, I don't think that it would have made much of a difference in this accident however. I do feel bad for the family, it must be hard for something like that to happen this time of year.

I have seen many people react strangely to grief throughout my years. How often do we see people even chatting or laughing in funeral homes? It is part of our human defense mechanisms, I believe.

I did not see the interview, but honestly, I don't think we can judge someone who has just been through a traumatic experience, especially a teenager, by a televised moment. She may well have been incapable of dealing with her emotions as of yet, or just not have come to terms with them so soon. The whole thing may not have sunken in yet.

I'm sure the grief and horridness of it all will have set in when it comes time to deal with the funeral and so forth. Plus, I am sure she is likely only repeating what others have probably been telling her as to not make it so difficult on her. Imagine if you had to deal with the guilt of such an accident.

This girl and grandmother and family is still in need of our extra prayers. As well as the extended family that this tragedy reaches, as we see by gt1's post. So sorry to hear it gt.
