The Inde is reporting that Massillons Steve Yoder gave a verbal commitment to play for Ball State along with Steve Schott. It is expected that Yoder will be playing on the offensive line. Which begs the question. Why didnt he play on the O-Line this year?????

He probably told the coach he didn't want to like someone else did.

Proving that our coaching staff didnt know how to use someones talent they way it should be used. That kid should have been on that front line every snap! We could have used someone like him up front opening holes for our running backs. We had 3 of the best backs in the state of Ohio and we couldnt find a way to open holes for them. And the sad part is we only used 2 of the three backs. The 3rd back was way better then the two we used. This also shows the waste of talent our coaching staff decided to use.
I blame the head coach for these poor, and I mean VERY POOR choices in our offense.

Quit going so easy on the head coach, Raptor, they were jaw-dropping, head-slapping, ridiculously stupid choices.

To further this point, had I not seen these choices with my own eyes, I would have never believed them.

First of all, I want to extend my sincere congrats to yet another Tiger going to college to further his education.
On the sarcastic side, why in the world would Ball State want to make him an O-lineman? Unless they do not need a 275lb. fullback like we had to have!

You're a football fan, right? Okay, so riddle me this...you've NEVER heard of a kid changing positions once he goes to the next level? (HS to College, College to Pros)???
Wow....
Another question - who would you have put at fullback?

Actually, Kirk Barton was a tight end at Perry. At Ohio State, he's a tackle now. It happens quite a bit.

To be honest with you, I have never heard of a high school player playing RB in high school and then playing offensive line in college. Perhaps, you can enlighten me with some examples.

He didnt play RB at Massillon his senior year. Sure, many players play another position when they were younger and smaller. Rarely, if ever, do you see a Senior play RB in high school then be recruited to play the offensive line in college.

BTW, Tight-End plays on the line. Any Sr. RB's that were recruited to play O-line in college. I havent seen one yet.

I might be wrong, I'm trying to remember...mid to late 80's, there was a player here named Jarrod Vance that was a FB/LB. Didn't he end up playing o-line at Penn State?
You are right though. Not something that happens very often.

If he did, and Im not sure he did. He wasnt recruited to be an o-lineman. Thats where the differance is with Yoder.

This thread should be about congratulating Steve and his family, and only that. Very happy for you all, Yoder family, and wishes for continued success on the next level:2thumbsup:

:
My favorite Steve Yoder memory was in the 2005 playoff Game against
McKinley...Steve had not played much yet and Mck had no idea who he was,
:gasp: we were in the horse set where Steve was used as the lead blocker as an H Back and absolutely destroyed Mck's linebacker (Grimsley I think) needless to say we gained good yards and as we all know we beat there a$$ that night.
Good luck Steve...

Woody Hayes was very well known for this, and wanted to make Tiger fullback Billy Harmon ('73-'74-'75) into an offensive lineman.
More recently, Mike Kudla played FB at Medina Highland, but was exclusively a D-lineman at Ohio State.

Who to put at fullback...hmmmm lets see... I really dont know, and i really dont care.
Ok now riddle me this. Where was our problem at offense. The line not being able to block and open up holes? Or having talent in our backfield?
Steve was a great fullback for us, but WE DIDNT NEED HIM AS A FULLBACK! This is where i am upset at the way we didnt use our talent the way we needed to be used!

Mom Yoder, congrads to Steve for earning the right to play football at the next level. Our paths first crossed at the Tiger-North Canton playoff game in 2005 and I knew then he was going to be a special player, especially after his play in the Mck. game. Although you will soon be leaving the immediate area, please keep us updated/posted on his college career.

If your line stinks like ours did this past season, why in the he-l do you waste your best blocker at fullback? :wall:

Dorie Irvin---played RB and DB up until last year and I have been on record as saying that he should of played TE or FB in our offense this year!
Jerrod Vance was always oversized for a LB and was too slow for that position in college(a heck of a player however) but was was moved to oline after the increased weight gain in college but NEVER played FB at Massillon---my soph Mike Norris was the primary FB and the year after Jason Stafford, and before Norris it was Derrick Newman!
Anyway----Congrats to Steve Yoder on a DI schollie ay whatever position they put him at!! Ball State is on the rise and has several Ohio players on the team!
