When tressel coaches 5 national championship teamslike the Bear from alabama then you can retire the vest.

I'm not sure anybody will do that again. MAYBE Pete Carroll. It's just unheard of now. And just for discussion's sake let me get your opinion on this. IF they had the current BCS format when Bear was coaching, would he have five national championships? I doubt it seriously but it's something to talk about.

i know that the ysu championships weren't 1-a, but still impressive.
i think i read somewhere that he's been to a national championship game in 9 of the last 17 years (or something like that). that's pretty impressive on any level.

speaking of D1-A, michigan proved that they weren't the best team in that division this season.

In 1966 alabama was 12-0 and finished behind ND who had one tie tell thats fair. So he really should have had 6 not 5 rings.

well, if you want to get technical.......in 1964 alabama was awarded the national championship before they lost to texas in the orange bowl.....so he should have 4 and not 5.
in 1965 alabams was awarded the national championship, with a 9-1-1 record. three teams had better records that year. so we could take that one away too.
1973 - awarded the championship before loss to notre dame. finished fourth in the AP poll. so let's take that one away too.
1978 -awarded championship after finishing 11-1-0. usc, who BEAT them, finished 12-1-0 and was awarded UPI national championship.
if you look closely, 1979 was the first year they were awarded a unanimous national title.
