I talked to an Ex-Referee today. He refereed for 36 years in high school football in Ohio. He told me today that there is no penalty for helmet to helmet contact. He said that only speering someone in the back is still a penalty. I don't know myself what the answer is. I tried to find the high school rules on the internet and was unsucessful. I would like to find out for sure and don't know where to look.

Thanks Chap.

Chap.

The mouth guards the Tiger wear use double laminated. 4 mm and should prevent normal concussions. The Helmet to Helmet hits should not only be a penalty, but ejection from game.

If you are talking about the play on Huth, it was late hit also.

But if helmet to helmet is not a penalty then by all means, lets spear everyone in the face w/ our helmet, because it is very effective. :stars:

I seriously hope is ok soon, for his sake.

I wouldn't suggest THAT; especially in this PUBLIC forum. My suggestion is posted in the "Inner Circle" forum.

Maybe Huth and his parents should file a civil suit agains the Moe player, his coaches, the officials on the field and the OHSAA.

The tapes and films speak for themselves.

It should have been a penalty, and it should have caused that player to be ejected. It was a dirty play, and regardless of the team, it shouldn't have been allowed to go without consequence.

Smitty, that was sarcastic. I thought the point was obvious, but I guess I should be more careful. I read chap's post, and the mere notion of any ref at any level condoning that play Saturday is ludicrous to me. The ref HAD to have missed it!

I'm glad someone else picked up this issue and chose to address it - thanks CHAP!

As with the other thread, we are dealing with the helmet-to-helmet hit on an exposed QB (after the pass was clearly released from his hand). I don't see anybody whining about the refs here either - I think its a real salient point that needs addressed. Is a HS QB open season for a hit like that?

I'm sure many would like to know if the ref saw the hit. This is not a witch hunt: if he said he didn't see it, then we take him for his word (PERIOD)

BUT

If he saw the hit, then what was the reason for the no call? Whatever the ref's reason for the no-call, we take him for his word (PERIOD) and then we have a fruitful discussion from there, because this does need clarification.

I didn't want to upset anyone over my question. I really don't know and when the ex-referee told me that,I thought that there was a site to go to to find out. I totally agree with a penalty and possible ejection. Kamd50 that looked like a site with the answers but I couldn't read the rules because I am not a member. Thanks everyone for your input.

I think a tape of the hit needs to be sent to the commissioner of the OHSAA. He needs to address it. It was a blatant dirty hit. That would be a very good example to show high schools across America of what will get you suspended in a high school game.

i think there might be a penalty for spearing but not for helmet to helmet....as for the ejection.....how could you eject a kid unless he speared the other kid? if you get a helmet to helmet in the pros or college you don't get ejected you get a penalty, how are you going to hold high school kids to higher standards then the pros and college players? to me that doesn't make any sense, now if the player is spearing the kid then yeah i agree he deserved to be an ejection, and chumly it doesn't matter if the ball was clearly released from bobby's hand, your aloud to hit a QB after that has happened, i think in high school i was coached two steps and thats it, i also think that its very hard penalty for a ref at any level to call..i think its more judemental then anything else, if you look at numerous amounts of plays in football you could say well that was helmet to helmet and i think that the head ref had to have seen the hit, for one it was right in front of him and thats part of his job to protect the QB thats what he is back there for
