...In Ziegel's case, he spent nearly two years recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas. Once he got out of the hospital, he was unable to hold a job. He anticipated receiving a monthly VA disability check sufficient to cover his small-town lifestyle in Washington, Illinois.

Instead, he got a check for far less than expected. After pressing for answers, Ziegel finally received a letter from the VA that rated his injuries: 80 percent for facial disfigurement, 60 percent for left arm amputation, a mere 10 percent for head trauma and nothing for his left lobe brain injury, right eye blindness and jaw fracture....

This is insane!

Tell me about it!! I have a condition that is service related for the past 10 years, RETIRED from duty for that reason, and the condition is deteriorating as we speak! I put in for an increase in my service connected disability with evidence from VA orthopedics, civilan orthopedics, and the New Albamy Surgical Center, etc,..... and NADA!!!!!!!! I am scheduled for surgery by my civilian Dr. on Nov. 30, 2007 and the VA still has not scheduled an MRI from 6 months ago. Also, they told me they cannot fit me in for physical therapy 3X a week but wont authorized payment for cilvian clinics----BS! Millions of veterans with far worse circumstances as mine are suffering, homeless, and fighting for survival in AMERICA while our GOVT. does not give a #hit about it!!!

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!!!!!

I agree, a total and shameful disgrace. Anyone who is or ever has been a part of our military should not ony receive any and all healthcare that they are entitled to, but it should be a priority for our government to get this right. Our government talks a good talk when it comes to the recruiting process and promises, yet we have veterans who were willing to lose their very lives that are being neglected:down:
How many of us could even dream to possess true bravery such as this?
