I'm not really familiar with facebook, but as I believe Carle mentioned awhile ago, why is anyone over age 13 using myspace?

A LOT of parents set up myspace accounts to check on their kid's activity. The way it works is that each minor's Myspace is set to private and cannot be viewed unless they invite you to do so. The school of thought is that if your kid doesn't want you to see their page, there may be questionable content. There are, however, predators that are very adept at getting "invited" to view pages they should not be. I actually shut down one of my kids site 3 years ago on Xanga, due to this. There was an adult male from Canada that was trying to contact minor girls in this area, and was posing as a 14 year old.... once you pulled up his site, it was full of pornographic pics of himself.

That is alittle different than what I was referring to.

Teachers aren't allowed to be humans?
Looks more to me like another attempt for parents to shift the cause of their child's bad behavior away from their bad parenting.

ummmm you actually HAVE to be older than 13 to have a myspace page.

So you wouldn't have a problem with your child seeing his/her teacher on a website doing shots or getting "adult" messages from friends? I know teachers who have this on their page and for some idiotic reason have given former students access to it. That is just waiting for something bad to happen.
They aren't saying teachers can't have a myspace account, just to be careful. And if the friends of the teacher leave what would be inappropriate messages and a student sees it, it doesn't look very good.
Honestly though if you are out of high school and have an account it is time to grow up(other than keeping an eye out for your kid as a previous poster mentioned).

Oh, do you mean where all you have to do is check a box that says you are over 13?
That was just an age I threw out there, seriously if you are out of high school, you are too old imo.

it's my space's rules not mine. Ask Tom.

Their lawyers probably told them to do it.
Plus, of course, you don't HAVE to be 13, you just have to lie about your age.
My Space is not just for kids though, many, many adults use them for free websites to stay in touch with friends.

I was talking about how you "think" you "have" to be 13.
I just think that at a certain point myspace is something that wears off. Kind of like MTV did for me at a certain point. It gets to be pointless. You put some pictures and music on your myspace and then people come and leave, for the most part, stupid, random comments. If I want someone to know what is going on in my life I will call or email them. My life, as well as most of the people on myspace, is not that interesting that random people want to read about it.
I can see where it is fun for teeny boppers so they can get the latest gossip and try to find out who likes them...but after high school it just gets old.

If you want to stay in touch you can email or call them on the phone or build your own real website.

oooooor old college friends get jobs in different states and myspace is an easy way to stay up on their lives.

If it is someone I really care about keeping up with, then I will call/email them. Seems kind of strange to keep up with someone's life, imo, by following them around on a site like myspace, espically if it is someone that you don't know enough anymore to pick up the phone and call. Like I said, that is just my opinion. If you want to follow the lives of all your friends who you no longer keep in touch with, that is up to you.

you still keep in touch with them. In college, you get hooked on facebook. Myspace kinda becomes your facebook after college.

Actually I got hooked on neither.
And I would also guess that most people do not get hooked on myspace after college, but before.

Actually me and many of my friends from college still keep up with each other through myspace.
It is not a child's website. It is not a site made for child molesters. It is popular with lots of people that are into the electronic age.
Some people would say you shouldn't be online chatting about high school football or sports unless you are a high school kid or a parent, but that's different huh? Or is it your bias?

Like who? How are the two comparable?
Kind of insulting to the people who dedicate all their time and efforts to keep a site like this up and running.
But have fun with your teeny bopper site.

I think someone signed up for a myspace site and couldn't get any friends.

It's tough to compare Facebook and Myspace. I don't have a myspace but Facebook is my homepage and I look at it numerous times a day and spend tons of time on it over the course of a week.
I don't see anything wrong with anyone of any age having a Myspace or Facebook.

Actualy, I first started using myspace to find old friends from high school.

Not everyone has a million random friends, contrary to your beliefs...

That's funny.
I have a MySpace acct., but I set mine up since both my teenage girls have an acct. on there. One of the stipulations for them having a profile on MySpace was that I had to be on their friends' list, so I can monitor who they're talking to and who they are friends with. I also wanted to make sure they didn't have anything questionable on their own profiles, and that they didn't give out any information that needs to be kept private, such as where they live, etc.
However, since joining MySpace, I've had quite a few people whom I went to high school with contact me, as well as a couple cousins of mine who no longer live in Ohio, so that was cool.
