An article in the Independent looks at the procedures in place for forensic criminals in an area facility.

Now this is not an indictment on Heartland or its employees. They're simply following the guidelines set forth by the state. Criminals use & abuse the system every day. For example, criminals know the right amount to steal before it becomes a felony (and serve hard time). Criminals know that many area facilities are stretched to the max and often won't take them for a "lesser crime." Once arrested, many will fake illnesses and demand a trip to the hospital, wasting time, money and resources. It ridiculous.

Send 'em out here and Sheriff Joe will take care of them - green bologna, pink boxers and Tent City in the 110 degree heat (the "Vacancy" light is always on in Tent City; Joe will just put up more tents).

We need more Sheriff Joes!
