View Full Version : Some things need to change around here

It's time to change the tenor of the conversation about our program.
Everyone is frustrated and disappointed, but that's no excuse for many of the things that have been written on here. Leveling all manner of personal insults in uncalled for. Irrespective of your opinion of Stacy's performance, there's no reason to be so small, so vindictive, and so hateful. It's not polite, it's not proper, and it's not necessary.
Even worse, it's counterproductive. It's not getting us anywhere. Who cares how we ended up the ditch? Would it not be better to work on climbing out instead floundering in the mud while we squabble about how we got there?
We can't change the past, but we can affect the future. Let's focus on that.

i agree. need to make our program the best it can and should be. but will people and boosters let the coach do it his way and not get in the way of that. i have yet to see that happen in this program. seems when the coach comes in he has an agenda and all of a sudden it doesn't stay that way. is it because of parents, boosters, fans or administration? i think this program can be special again and i hope that it will. hearing that TIG-ERS saturday from the fans makes me believe that we can be a complete and responsable program.

There's such a thing as saying what you have to say and then moving on instead of rephrasing the same distasteful sentiments over and over again.
Wouldn't it be more classy to just wish Coach Stacy and his family well wherever they end up next and concentrate on what can be done to make our program better in the future without slinging any more insults?

I'm not talking about the culture - I'm talking about the posts about Stacy on this forum. Far too many cross the line from valid criticism to outright insult.
There's no legitimate justification for posts of that nature, and reasoned and serious adults need not stoop to that level. Those posts do nothing to promote or improve the program - and isn't that the point of being here?

I don't know what you meant by that, but if anyone thinks that the comments made here are a reflection of the thoughts of the average citizen living in Massillon, they're just plain nuts.
It is not 1967.
Newsflash: that was 40 years ago.
Go ahead and have your fun people, but don't suffer from the grandiose illusions that your little corner of the world reflects anything about what most Massillon people are thinking about tonight.
Nor does the typical Massillon voter give a damn what a school board candidate thinks about the hiring of a new football coach.
Except, a HELL of a lot of them will vote AGAINST a "football friendly" candidate because they are fed up with the whole "Massillon Football Rules" mentality.
The people who are passionate about our team live all over the globe, and most of the ones posting all this negative crap do not live, vote and send their kids to school here.
What you DO hear from the posters that live here is that they want integrity and discipline in our sports program, WIN or LOSE!

Some good posts here. We all want what is best for the program. Personally Tom is a good man and so is his family so lets respect that. I think the important thing that is coming out of this is we are starting to agree we need more stability, from bottom to top. "3 or 4 years then I am looking" is fine, he was up front, cant fault him there. Whether he would have done anything different from the get-go if he & we both, wanted something built, for the long haul, I guess we wont know but as he even agrees now, that is probably what we need.

Because it was a good launching pad for what I was feeling, and because I couldn't figure out if you meant that the posts on MP were a representation of the "tip of an iceberg", or if you meant that the posts here reflect the opinions of only a small percantage of Massillon-connected people.
Massillon is its own worst enemy!!! Do the people around the program realize that we have turned into a laughing stock, not only in Stark Co., but the whole damn state. It's not the Players fault or the Coaches we have had in place. It's the negative, back stabing BULLS--T that goes on behind the scenes.
IE. Booster club wanting to run the program. Some of these guys have never wore a jock strap on PBTS field for crying out loud!!! But yet they feel they can tell the HEAD COACH what to do on FRIDAY NIGHT.
IE. School Board members that run for the position to to have a say on the football program. It is no wonder our schools are in the mess they are in... IE. School Administrators that decide who coaches our feeder system instead of the HEAD FOOTBALL COACH. These people in charge then fire the previous staff due to tough discipline...??? These KID need DISCIPLINE!
I could go on & on. This ship called Massillon Football is close to being sunk. And as usual the scapegoat is the football coach.
Coach Stacy, I don't blame you one bit for wanting out of this horrible situation. You came in with great ideas for the program, but due to the real "Massillon Village Idiots" we are about to lose another great coach and person.
If the PEOPLE around the program don't change... MASSILLON FOOTBALL IS DONE. A change in GUARD is needed. I hope the new Guard works together for the good of the program and for the players.

I can remember the first year there was disipline. At least that it what I heard (no swearing by coaches or players) etc. When the film was made of Massillon football there seemed to be no disipline. This year rumor had it that some players could miss practice and still play and others were benched for the same offense. It that is true that was not fair. Hopefully coaches and players learned a valuable lesson this year and will do better next year and make the playoffs. I think the end of the season showed what these players should have been doing all year and also any mistakes the coaches were making were corrected.

Kids get discouraged when they read their coach being put down or when they read lies about how they didn't work hard or show up for this or that or that certain players ran the program. They know its not true. The kids worked hard. So did the coaches.
No team has 100% participation in all off-season workouts, and no team has 100% of the team giving 100% of their effort every practice. Adults that say "Well back in 19__ we did" have selective memory.

Hey, as an outsider, let me put my 2 cents in.
Trust me. Massillon is NOT the laughing stock of the state. In fact, 99% of high school football followers are envious of your tradition, facilities and fan enthusiasm and backing.
Warren's attendance, myself included, fell off tremendously because the team was young and lousy. I don't picture that ever happening in Massillon.
We public schools who once had the healthy steel mill economy are going to be hurting from time to time. The big parochials hurt big time also. Just flow with the punch. Massillon will always be Massillon. Don't ever think differently!

Solon fan here, I know this season was tough but the problem at Massillon this season was not lack of talent, you guys had the talent. I think we are seeing that even at Massillon, when you have alot of unknowns going into a season and you have young players out on the field they take some time to gel and play well as a team.
In Solon, we had a young offensive line that took some time to gel in the early part of the season and until they started playing together and blocking well for the offense, the defense had to carry us, and that is through a pretty tough schedule. I think that is part of it, Massillon is a great school that plays a great schedule, however in these days if you aren't a catholic school that can recruit, playing a schedule that deep with good teams will have your team out of the playoffs on some years. It also will build your team up into a real championship contender, when the players come together to fight through it.
Best of Luck, your team was much more talented than a 6-4 team, don't listen to the haters because I know you guys will be back very soon.

I dont mean to sound nasty and snotty and all. Im mostly saying is we all need to get on the same page and work together and put the kids first and that is letting the coach coach them. Thats what is he is paid to do. If anyone can do a better job then please by all means APPLY FOR THE JOB if it opens sometime in the near future which I believe it will. Gee, aren't we lucky? I still say that we would be crazy to give him a contract when he has certainly let us know that he would take off at the first opportunity! Do we want to do that to our players---and the community? First, there is a big newspaper article reminding us that he said he would only be here for 3-4 years and then there are big headlines saying that he plans to stay. What happened---didn't he get the immediate offer that he hoped to get? And he sure is talking differently now, giving credit to kids who were very much taken for granted during the season. And blaming the "transfer" for causing team problems---who else could have addressed those problems BETTER than the HEAD COACH? There were MANY problems during this particular season besides the W-L record. The team spirit, arguing with each other, throwing the helmets on the field, arguing with coaches. . . . that needed to be addressed immediately. Isn't that the kind of behavior that the fans wanted out of this coach?
