Amidst all the hoop a la and everything else, it looks like something fell through the cracks with the sports reporters.
The clutch kick that Steve Schott made to tie the McKinley game and send it into overtime...also set a new school record for most fieldgoals in a career.
I think that was the third time it was teed up for him for a fieldgoal attempt that day, and that was what I was thinking about each time.
Two McKinley games in a row, and two key scores made by a kid that keeps an incredibly cool head under pressure.
The kid has been phenomenal, and came through for us one last time.
I'm not a historian for the Booster Club, but I think that this list of school records set by Steve is accurate:
Most Fieldgoals in a career: (30)
Most PAT's in a career: (171)
Most points scored by a kicker: (261)
2nd most points scored by a Tiger: (261)
Most PAT's in a season: (61) 2005
Most PAT's in a game: (10) vs. Friendship Edison DC, 10/16/04
Most punts in a game: (7) Cleve. St. Ignatius, 10/5/07
Most punting yards in a game: 287 yds, Cleve. St. Ignatius, 10/5/07
Most Varsity games played in: (47)
Most Varsity games scored in: (45)

Keep in mind that the FG at the end of the game that they say he missed, but a penalty was called on the Tigers was also good on replay even though the men it stripes said "no good".

Who said he missed?
It was called a NO PLAY Dead ball Foul .
Flags went up before he kicked the ball .

That ref saw the line judge calling the play dead and he orignally started for a second to say no good then he signaled play was dead. Although it made no sense for him to pay attention to anything other then if the kick was good or not.

Watch the replay and look at the ref under the goal post on Massillon's side. He was waving his arms no good. Regardless, of whether the play was dead or not my point was that he made it.

OK, OK. It's settled.
Can we go back to praising a fantastic kid now?

I have echoed these statements for the last couple of years. GREAT KID !! great family, and great stock.
I glad we met the Schotts a couple of years ago !!
Congrats Steve !
Thsi should be a story that is told OVER & OVER to all little boys that want to play football. You don't have to be the BIGGEST, BADDEST or most talented kid in the world to be successful.
Steve has worked hard for years to develope his skill as a kicker. He had determination and a lot of heart !!

Steve is a TIGER through and through. He's given us so much over the years, and will be sadly missed. I wish him the best of luck at Ball State!
I hope his parents will continue to tailgate with us next year.

Schott is definitely the best kicker in Stark County since......well, who else......David Abdul of Massillon (formerly Lake).
I have to hand it Schott...he never gets rattled when he has been in the eye of the storm and two games are evident of that.

Maybe we should hire him now that the season is over to be a kicking coach for us. Give him a opportunity to make some change for college and also help us with our kicking program?

Uh, that would probably make sense. So, I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

Seeker,
Gee whiz! Those were some things I never knew about Schott! I don't know if you saw but he nearly hit the scoreboard on an extra-point against Cincinnati Western Hills...he missed it by inches.
