This post is to commend the Massillon fans for the class they displayed at the end of the game against Cincinnati Western Hills. To see Massillon fans applauding two Mustangs scores and the team as they departed the field after the game was a classy gesture.
It is that kind of class that always gives a person like me memories to cherish about Massillon and I couldn't be any prouder.
My hat's off to Massillon fans for their class which was greatly appreciated. And Western Hills head coach Chris MacFarland also had a nice word to say about Tigers fans after the game: "It's an honor to play a program with fans that have the class as they do."
And a shoutout to Xtiger, MTown, Bambo, CHAP, and longtimefirsttime who were in attendance!

I've said it many times before. Tiger fans are among the most knowledgable and classy in Ohio.
It was good to see ya there!

I have to ask this question: If McKinley,St.Ignatius or Moeller were beating the living crap out of Massillon, and the Tigers got a late score or two against one of their second teams,do you actually think THEIR fans would applaud us?They'd be saying "Damn, they scored on us." Sorry,I don't applaud a team when they score on Massillon,no matter who they are or what the score may be.

Great post, Keno. thanks for letting us know what their coach said!
that is not the first time nor will it be the last time we have applauded the efforts of the opponents kids at our stadium. those kids deserved some appreciation for their effort yesterday after the beating they took. not to mention traveling 4 hours on school buses to take it.
believe it or not, i saw some of our fans applauding the mentor team as they left the field after this year's game.
but, everyone around stark county thinks we are the scum of the earth. especially those to our immediate east.

When is Massillon going to quit worrying what everybody else has to say about them?

as soon as you quit being so negative about the football program.

I also was very proud of our fans, well at least most of them, who showed true class. Someone close to us said something about us applauding when they finally scored their first td and I told them that it was called good sportsmanship. I mean, they didn't have any of their own fans there to speak of, so I kind of felt like we owed it to those kids.

i think your just upset at massillon catholic, myself and others who speak the truth on here and do not live in a fantasy land. most of you sugarcoat everything about massillon and get upset when people with realistic thoughts disagree with you.

These are the same people that will be crying when Mcdaniels doesn't listen to them next year.

i would actually find it more humiliating actually.
your getting beat so bad that you finally score a touchdown to hear the opposing team and fans cheering for you. sounds more degrading than anything.

There's is nothing degrading about receiving some respect from the opposing side. Guess that's something you have to learn as you mature.

Well, you know what, real Tiger fans ARE very proud of our city. And we have much to be proud of. I just saw a replay of Coach Earle Bruce speaking before the TD Club and he is another example of why Massillon is such a great place. Look back over the years: PB going to Ohio State, Bruce went to Ohio State, Coach Mather going to UKansas, Tom Harp going to Army and other colleges, Owens to UAkron and Ashland----where have the coaches from other schools around here (including McDaniels) gone? Your last line tells it all: Ann Coulter for President---it isn't only your pants that are empty; your head is too! And no, we Massillonians do not live in a fantasyland---we are proud of our school and our kids' accomplishments. Have you ever seen any of our opponents applaud our kids for the efforts they put out, but we ended up losing? If it has happened, I haven't seen it. Our kids have had to tolerate jeering when they lose, not applause.

If I were an out of town high school football coach, Massillon would be the #1 school on my list I'd like to play largely in part to the class factor.
And thanks, obie0130!

I think it was wonderful that we applauded them.
They did make the effort to come all the way from Cincinnati, brought no fans (except the chaperones) with them, no band, no cheerleaders. We wanted them to feel welcome and special.
I especially like it when “Mustang Sally” (I think her real name is Michelle) made the extra point. It was great. That had to be a first for Tiger Stadium and something that she will someday, in the future, be able to tell her children and grandchildren -- “I kicked an extra point in Massillon at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium -- I put a point on the board against the Tigers!” Extra applause to her!!!!

TigerLily,
That kicker was Nicole Brown. And yes, they were welcomed with the open arms expected from Massillon fans  !
It's that kind of class that puts Massillon on the map. And once again speaking on terms of media relations, I couldn't be any prouder of the fans for their display of class.

Honestly, I just have to wonder what in the world is wrong with you? You have a problem with Massillon fans showing some class, respect, and good sportsmanship to another team? I seem to remember you making a post once upon a time concerning your past troubles in PBTS where you made the remark about making mistakes and learning from them. I would think that that would have included showing and demonstrating proper behavior in Paul Brown's house as to shed a good light upon it and our community. Yet you ridicule others when they do so.
You can't even begin to compare the situation between Solon and Western Hills and you know it.

I applaud the Western Hills young Men for getting on a bus for 4 hours and
then going out there knowing they were outmanned and competeing...they
have won 1 game and will lose next week..It would be very easy for those kids to say screw it I'm done I don't need this..but instead they go out and
compete every week,(at the same time we have players who don't show up for practice or team events) they may not win but it says alot about your character to follow through with something you start...I'm sure it was nice to here applause from SOMEONE other than their parents..How many of those kids would like to trade places with one of our players...

He would be the first one to make comments if our Tiger fans stood and jeered at the opposing team. Or jeered when the girl went out to kick the extra point. He needs to hear Coach Bruce's excellent speech about his experience in Tiger town.

Personally, I sit in section 5, and after each game I try to make my way to the lower portion of section 6 and applaud the opposing team as they exit.
I consider this a minimal amount of good sportsmanship.
And yes, I did applaud the student atheletes from Solon as they exited (even through they dared beat our Tigers).
I grew up in an era where officials were not provided (and not necessary) when playing tennis or volleyball, as players called their own fouls - and if you weren't sure, you played the point over or (more likely) called it in your opponent's favor.
We don't need to HATE the teams we are competing against. I would hope that when players shake hands after the game they are truly offering congratulations and sharing comradery.
Call me an old fool for thinking sportsmanship should (and does) still exist, but this is how I think.

why do i have a lot of maturing to do? Because i would rather not have pity taken on me? If i get a 70% on my english exam should i be congratulated for not failing? We have adults/kids who openly criticize our own players/coaches and we treat the visiting team with more respect than we treat our own team. makes sense to me.
maybe i am too immature to get whats really going on here so explain it to me please!

It's called acting like an adult and recognizing the fact that there are things more important in life than a freaking high school football game. Make sense?

"pity" is an inappropriate and poor choice of words. It is equally disappointing that even after countless posts of mature adults trying to express and explain what it means to have class and pride when it comes to how we treat out of town visitors, you simply fail to grasp the concept.

All I know is that my wife and I applauded Western Hills not to mock them, but out of respect. First because when they scored, those were pretty good plays. Also, they played the whole game, they never gave up. I also applauded when she made the extra point. Our Tigers did try to block it. The only team I didn't give any kind of anything to was Marion Harding.

In past seasons, we always applauded the opponent for the EFFORT that they gave during the game.
It's not so easy to come into Paul Brown Tiger Stadium and deal with ALL of the surroundings.
If it were, we wouldn't have such a hard time filling the schedule !
The applause and congrats go out to the teams with the sack to play us, and and because they gave their best effort !!! Effort doesn't always equal wins !!

all i can say is this.. when u play for massillon there are many things you have to deal with. These kids no the fan base is super human compared to other teams and towns. We are like the yankees and Notre Dame.. WE expect to win. When many people put millions into this program you want results.
Massillon misses this point though.. They Are just KIDS. We have to stop treating them like PROFESSIONALS... If we continue to d othis then they have to expect boos. and unhappy fans.. When we have transfers come into out town and disrupt the team and school there is a problem there and it does not get handled..
IF you play at MASSILLON you must respect the tradtion abd whether we win or get beat you show up for ALL PRATICES AND EVENTS hurt or not... mad or not.. WE the fans come up in many weather condtions for these young kids and support them .. we deserve respect also....
Many teams hate us because of our tradtion and what we have.. we are unlike any team in ohio if not the nation. but we must not become like MCKINLEY---- Fair weather fans.. Dont worry about any one else but ourselves. .. We need to go into fawcet stadium and fill those stands with orange and black .. also lets PLEASE get TIG---- ERS going as loud as possible what happened to this tradtion???

You are absolutely right on with this post. And although I have gotten on you in the past for some negative posts, I will also give you props for this very good one:smile:
And part of that tradition that you speak of is to treat our guests in PBTS with respect. You make a very good point whenyou say we dont want to become like McK., especially in this area.
I also wondered what has happened to the TIG ERS signs that the cheerleaders have had at least in the last 4 years that I know of. They seem to have disappeared this year and Miss Couch needs to dig those things out this week:TIG2:

I distinctly remember us applauding Solon even after they defeated our beloved Tigers.
I even remember us applauding St. Ignatius after one of our many defeats at their hands.
