View Full Version : Ohio St., S. Florida 1-2 in BCS standings
As reported by Fox Sports
The last three weeks have seen would-be national title contenders LSU, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, West Virginia and California all lose in what could charitably be explained as inexplicable fashion.
And it showed in the first edition of the Bowl Championship Series standings.

I think everyone will have at least 1 loss when it is all said and done.

The Buckeyes have some bullets to dodge coming up for sure. Go back and look at the preseason top 25. It's crazy what's happened so far.

I would hope that the National media will finally give Jim Tressel the kind of praise they give to Pete Carroll. Those two are clearly the two best coaches in college football and the job Tress has done this year is unreal. NOBODY thought we'd get to #1 this year (albeit with help)....that being said, our most difficult part of the schedule is coming up. This reminds me so much of '02. Its going to fun getting to the finish line.

Not to wrinkle the sheets or anything but OSU has the weakest non conference schedule in the Big Ten---games with YSU, Kent State, and Akron are not quality wins for sure! I perdict a lose before the end of the season! however it has turned out to be a smart move if they continue to win.
IMO---alot of people would argue that "the old ball coach" down in South Carolina is the best college coach behind Carroll. SC was on the bottom before he turned them around. He does that everywhere he goes and Bob Stoops is close on the list as well along with Saban. Tressel understands that you have to recruit your home state to be at the top and is a great coach!

True.....but we also didn't lose a game like USC did to Stanford. I firmly acknowledge that our schedule has been weak so far, but to just make it to #1 after all we lost from last years team is awesome.

Imo, Tressel is THE best coach in the country. He does have a load of talent but knows what to do with it and keeps them inspired.

Oh, Monte, your just mad because the UC Bearcats lost to Louisville! LOL!!
The schedule makers at OSU have figured out how to play the "BCS Game". The strength of schedule component in the computers doesn't carry as much weight as people think. The main components are the polls, which are voted on by humans. When they see an undefeated team in the OSU Buckeyes (or USC, Florida, LSU, etc), they automatically perceive a top ranked team. If Georgia Tech or Cincinnati were undefeated, they wouldn't get as much consideration as some of the "traditional powers".

I hope OSU is ranked #1 so Michigan can dirty the Bucks title hopes like they did Michigan's last year. And I'm going to revel in it when it happens...if OSU doesn't lose first.........

Keno, which will hurt worse? A loss to Appalachian State or a loss to OSU?

You are right I am steaming mad about UC losing! We went from 11 to 23 in the polls. kelly is doing a wonderful job with the program building on what Dantonio started.
You are also correct about the BCS scenerio but alot of teams will stumble leaving room for those early 1 loss teams to climb back in the race! It's already happening and OSU has a few trap games ahead--going to Happy valley is going to be huge and Illinois has a shot to beat them as well!
