Stupid question. If we have 11 or so points how do we end up with 10 or so points if we lose out and nobody we beat wins? Do they take points away?

No, they don't take points away. However, the divisor does change. After 8 weeks L1 points (21.5 in our case) are divided by 8. After 10 weeks, they are divided by 10. In other words, we get 2.6875 points from these games now, but only 2.15 points after 10 weeks. 2.6875 - 2.15 = .5375. We now have 11.2734 points. Our minimum total for the year (if we finish 4-6 and Middletown, Ursuline, Buchtel and Warren lose out) is 10.7359. 11.2734 - 10.7359 = .5375. As you can see, this difference is entirely due to the larger L1 divisor after 10 weeks.

Here's one scenario. If you figure the team with the better record to win each game (ties work to the advantage of the team whose points are being calculated):
Perry: 24.5969
St.Johns: 22.3500
Fremont Ross: 18.8000
GlenOak: 18.4000
Perrysburg: 17.6500
Wadsworth: 17.5000
Stow: 16.1000
Massillon: 15.3702

The team just needs to to do their best to win the next two games and then prepare for next season. There is a awful lot that needs to happen in order to see Massillon get into the playoffs and 90-95% of the things that that need to happen will not.

In line with the philosophy of "you have to play the best to be the best" we scheduled several playoff calibre teams in the regular season...which has effectively eliminated us from the very playoffs which we had hoped we were preparing for! Much to the jubilation of the other "competitive" teams in region 2. Isn't that shooting ourselves in the foot? Or is the anatomical part higher?

Unfortunately, the same scheduling issues contributed to Shepas' poor win/loss record as well, and, to this day few can recall how his schedule was touted as the toughest in the state- we just hear 4-6 and gloss the rest over. I say unfortunately, because, like most Tiger fans I love seeing our Tigers play some of the best teams in Ohio. It just has become more apparent to me lately that people soon forget about the strength of the schedule and focus immediately on the # of losses. In other words we're not getting any style points for losing to good programs early.

If one of those does not happen, then we are out. Just one. I didn't notice this scenario last night, but it is the only way.
It is not very likely, if we can't get 1 game to go our way last night from our defeated teams, can we expect to get 22games to go our way?
The sad part is that if we had got 2-3 more L2 wins (Mck beats Jackson, Buchtel makes an extra point, Mason doesn't get a late 4th quarter 2 point conversionv, Mck doesn't have to forfeit to detroit) then we would be talking about a very very very real playoff hope. Then again, if we move the ball 1 inch more against Solon then it is irrelevant too.

Yes, it does matter, but only on a couple of L2s.
Ok, here is the total effect...
Massillon
We still need to beat Mck and everyone we beat, except West High, to win.
And the following help
St. John's.
St. John's needs to LOSE to DeSales
AND
Napolean, Strongsville, OR Libbey WIN
Fremont Ross.
Ross MUST LOSE to Sandusky (this is not very likely)
Anything else to do with Ross does not matter in this scenario.
PERRY/GLENOAK LOSER
If GlenOak. Nothing else would have to happen
If Perry, 3 of 6 teams they beat MUST LOSE.
Stow
1. Lose to Cuyahoga Falls and 3 or LESS L2 wins.
2. Beat Cuyahoga Falls and only 1 L2 WIN.
The uncatchables are
Perry/GlenOak Winner.
Wadsworth
Perrysburg
So IF we could squeak in, it would be for #8 and that is the new scenario with an Inkster forfeit.
It is not longer statistically impossible... however it is more of a longshot than ever... I would say 0.5%

Who is "us"? You're no kind of Massillon fan. You are apparently little more than a semi-literate naysayer with a penchant for grammatically challenged negativity.
No one is saying that Massillon has a good chance to reach the post-season. However, there is a small chance, and those of us with the intellect and mathematical acumen to determine that chance have chosen to present that scenario in a realistic and objective manner. Rather than posting continual reminders of your ignorance, why not leave the discussion to those who are intellectually equipped to productively participate?

Brunswick has clinched a first round home game. Nordonia, Hoover & Whitmer have clinched playoff spots.
Nine teams are fighting for four spots. Perrysburg and Wadsworth are in the "control own destiny" category. As mentioned several times, Massillon is the longest of longshots. As of this post, they sit 13th.

steubenville is a top notch program year and year out because they are in the right division. if big red was playing up to division1 , how many titles you think they could`ve won? "0". open your eyes and wake up , it`s 2007 and we belong in division 2 maybe 3 in a few more years.

You apparently have no idea how the process of division assignment works. The key word is "assignment". OHSAA tells us what division we are in - we don't get to choose. As long as we're in D1, we will compete for the D1 title.
Maybe you're the one you needs to wake up and deal with reality.
massillon will slowly sink like it has been and things can only get worse
Your constant negativity is neither welcome nor accurate nor productive. I fail to see any benefit that can result from your persistent denigration of the program and its fans.
We don't concede defeat just because the odds are long, and we don't quit just because the task is hard. Apparently you do. Sucks to be you, I guess. I'm glad I'll never know the failure that you live with daily.

We need to keep a coach for longer then 3-4 years and get a dang system going for our youth programs. That is are problem not the fact we a div 2 type team as mr. empty suggests. we can't keep changing coaches and think success is going to be there. If we keep a coach for awhile and still struggle then I can see moving down. I would love to play brunswick, jackson, perry or north canton in our region but some of those teams will not play us. Did the state not expand the teams that make it so they could go out and schedule some of the big boys without hurting teams playoff chances. we had a good schedule this year but our team decided to play family feud. I for one think massillon should make the playoffs 7 or 8 out of 10 years.

Funny... If I had told you at the beginning of the year that Massillon, Mckinley, and Perry would be staying home week 11, you would have called me crazy.

While I don't really doubt you, how can this post be "officially" made at 8:12pm??? What games were finished then??? I know Stow lost to C.Falls, and Ursuline beat St.V's, however, Middletown lost again by 1 point and GlenOak beat Perry. Not sure about any of the other senerios.

The final playoff spot in Region 2 comes down to Ross or GlenOak... huge advantage to Glenoak.
0-9 Lorain Soutview vs 5-4 Lorain Admiral King.
Southview win = Ross playoffs
Admiral King win = GlenOak playoffs.
Perry, Stow, and Massillon are out.

with all due respect please explain how so Spize.
Maybe we should have found this new wrinkle in the offence long time ago.

Right now #8 and #9 are at 18.5000 GlenOak and 18.2500 Ross.
If Southview defeats Admiral King it would give more L2s to Ross putting them at 18.8500
All games that effect GlenOak have been finalized and calculated.
If you are asking how so with Massillon, it is because we can get more than 15 points once all is final, if we get that many I no longer really feel the urge to check because the highest we can get is 15.3 given that west high and Middletown both lost. We will likely finish 11-12th in the region, with a win.
Like I said.... BEAT MCKINLEY
p.s. the southview/admiral king game is tomorrow.

How in God's name did Stow lose tonight?
FYI, this is 2 games that Middletown lost this year because they couldn't score from inside the 1.

It is amazing how many things happened this year to have us miss the playoffs.
It just was not in the cards for whatever reason.

It just hurts when you know everyone in your region is having a bad year and you could have taken advantage of it in the postseason. If we could have had luck go our way and score on one of those drives we wouldnt have this thread and saved you alot of hard work Spize. So close, but yet so far as they say. I shall still pray and hold out hope. When do we begin play in '08 out of curiosity?

99, but stop grasping... it doesn't make a difference, we would have required one more win against a 5-5 team or better to have been there. Like I said earlier, it is over unless there are some forfeits coming down the pike by key teams by noon on Sunday. (For instance if Normandy or Solon had to forfeit the game against us, giving us a win, and were able to keep 5 of their other wins). That ain't gonna happen, so let's BEAT MCKINLEY and worry about next year starting tomorrow night.

Not to prop the Federal League, I would NEVER do that, but I would be willing to bet that Louisville and Licking Valley would have both beaten Normandy this year. As for Solon, I think that Louisville and Licking Valley would have given the Comets a quality game and would have scored more than seven points against them!
