It has been said that Dennis is "one of the premiere comedy talents in America today." Dennis is a five-time Emmy award winner for his critically acclaimed half-hour, talk show Dennis Miller Live which had a nine year run on HBO. He also wrote and starred in the Emmy-nominated cable comedy special Raw Feed. He was the host and executive producer of CNBC's Dennis Miller, a topical interview talk show featuring reasoned discourse, opinion and humor.
Dennis' first big break came in 1985 when he was discovered by Lorne Michaels at the Comedy Store. He landed a spot on Saturday Night Life, as the "Weekend Update" anchor. Dennis began his fictional news reports with "Good evening, what can I tell you" and closed with "That's the news, and I am outta here!".
In 1990, Dennis released a standup comedy CD, The Off-White Album, based on an HBO special titled Mr. Miller Goes To Washington, which drew heavily from the observational and metaphor-driven style he was known for on SNL, and showed glimpses of the politically-based humor that would influence his later work. A well-received HBO special, Dennis Miller: Black & White, aired shortly after the release of the CD.
In 1994, Dennis hosted his second live talk show, Dennis Miller Live. Dennis and his staff won five Emmy Awards while hosting the show during its nine-year run.
Dennis has authored four books, The Rants, Ranting Again, I Rant, Therefore I Am and The Rant Zone. The books are based on his standup comedy and television monologues have all been New York Times best sellers.
Dennis has appeared as a guest of guest star on various shows, including Boston Public, The Daily Show, Hannity & Colmes, The Norm Show and Real Time with Bill Maher. For two seasons, Dennis also called the plays alongside Al Michaels and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts on ABC's Monday Night Football.
The Hollywood Reporter called his most recent special, "an hour of topical, scathing brilliance that helps cement Miller's status as the Lenny Bruce of the new millennium, the most cerebral, astute and clever standup ever to put mouth to microphone."
In early January, Westwood One Radio announced the launch of The Dennis Miller Show. In his first ever radio show, Dennis will offer his unique take on the day's topics with comedy and satire. The daily 30-hour talk show will also feature Dennis taking listener calls, as well as interviewing high-profile special guests. The show is scheduled to debut in March '07.
