I don't like to single individuals out much, because clearly this is a team sport, and we win and lose as a team. But in this case I can't help but refer to one particular example of an athlete that embodies championship spirit. We all know that Gamble is an excellent athelete - truly gifted - and performs exceptionally on both sides of the ball. But to me, what I like about him most is the absolute and genuine intensity that he brings to every play. Watching last weeks game, it looked to me like when he ran, he wanted to hit somebody - to make the guy that was trying to tackle him think twice about doing it the next time. On more than a couple of occassions, he delivered the punishing hit on the defender. He fought for extra yardage on every play, sometimes with 3, 4, or 5 guys on his back - and he won the battle.

I'm not saying all of this to put him on a pedestal. My hope is that every Tiger player will bring with him that same 'never say die' spirit on every play, and that same passion for delivering the hit, making the play, winning the battle.

Every player on the team is capable of embracing that spirit, and Brian is not the only one who's demonstrated it so far. With that said, I hope that it will grow and be part of the DNA of the team. I believe it's that level of intensity on every play, along with mental toughness, and fundamental execution that has the potential to return Massillon to the Big one, and to bring us one step closer to that dominating dynasty status that we last held in the early 70s.

Whew - I don't know what go into me - I'm psyched about the season, the team, and the direction of the program in the 'Stacy era.'

Awesome post. You are right, Gamble is a true Tiger on and off the field, as well as many others (Dailey, Huth, ect). The seniors on this team show great leadership and determination and I feel it is rubbing off big time on the juniors. This kind of intensity and spirit will fuel the team to the playoffs again this year and hopefully bringing it all home.

Again... Awesome post!!!

Take it to Mo this Saturday Tigers!!

Great post! I've often found myself watching his determination on the field and he certainly has "IT". Many of the Tigers aren't to far behind him either. This is a physical and mentally tuff team and the Coach's are doing a great job of preparing all of the players!
GO TIGERS... MAUL MOE!!!

Thanks guys - you're too kind (but I'm glad you agree).

Isn't it amazing the kind of emotion that Tiger football evokes?

Great post ObieWon......Brian won my admiration last year not so much for his outstanding athleticism but for the classy thing he did at the Ignatius game. After he dislocated Robby Paris hip he went over to check on him.....I've NEVER seen that in the 40 years that I've been watching HS football, you see it in the NFL and sometimes in college but never in HS. I don't think that I've seen a classier act!!!!!!

One day during the early Shepis days when BG and Darion were in the 7th or 8th grade we were sitting in my moms living room watching old tiger tapes of 1987 through 1991 and I was explaining to the young tigers about the refuse to lose spirit and told them that i played defensive tackle in a game at 173 pounds and played every play like it was the championship-- and he looked at me and said--"thats what im talking about Monte i will play anywhere I can to get on the field" and i looked at him and said he was going to be a beast in high school! He has always had a certain kind of "Just do it" additude that I love!!

I even called his cell phone last week to talk about academics and he is improving and will take ACT in early October! He is a tiger of tigers!
B General is what they call him!!!

Whatever the future brings for Gamble, all of us wish him the best. He is a class act!

All I can say is that he as a superb athlete and I care more about the person than a city or championship! I wish we as a TIGER community be more intense about our kids future after Massillon football!!!
