Yeah, baby!

What is the all-time record for successful FG attempts anyway? 50?

If you're asking about Massillon, David Abdul held the record at 29.

From Tiger Don's article:
"The scoring ended in the fourth quarter when Schott kicked a 28-yard field goal, tying David Abdul for career field goals at 49."

I'm sure that was just a typo on Seeker's part:wink:

I think on the Massillontigers website it says career FGS 29. I think that is where Seeker is getting his info

Well, we sure did settle THAT one. LOL. Sorry I asked.

I will need to do some research to resolve this matter. I do know this much -- Massillon went something like 50 years between the 1920s and the 1970s during which we only tried ONE FG. Field Goals were rare in HS football in the old days, especially at Massillon where the attitude was: We're Massillon, we're the super team, we don't go for field goals on 4th down, we go for touchdowns.

These days, HS teams kick FGs with great regularity. But Massillon seems to have made a science of it since the Abdul days. I'm really impressed with the way we step up and kick 40-some yard FGs like it's a ho-hum deal, while many major colleges miss the crap out of those things!

I'm really proud of this Schott lad. If Massillon had enjoyed a kid like this every year for the last 75 years or so, we'd have won a lot more games.

Congrats to Steve !!! Schotty is a SUPER kid that comes from good stock. He's living the dream that he's had since childhood. Being the kicker for the MASSILLON TIGERS !!

When it comes to commitment and dedication, he's really a throwback, which isn't in a lot of kids' vocabulary anymore.

I am just glad we were able to witness it !!!

CONGRATS STEVE !!

We have been spoiled having him kicking for all these years. Think of all he's done. Man I will always remember that kick in the swirling wind against McKinley. Great job Steve!

longtimefirsttime,

Not that I should tell you but the wind was blowing at 15 MPH and was definitely against Schott. Not too many kickers would have connected but then again, when you are in the eye of the storm......you know the rest.

And also, Schott is the defending three-time East-West Repository Kicking champion on top of that!

so was the record 29 or 49? Im confused. 29 would make more sense. 49 would be a lil over a fg a game for all 4 years...without counting playoffs. So whats the record?

No matter what it is, congrats to Steve. A class young man from classy parents from when I met them a year or two ago.

The correct number of Field Goals is 29 (87 points)

Pat's = 155

TOTAL = 242 points (I believe this is 4th best in Tiger history)!!

He needs 7 points to become the second leading scorer in Massillon History

Steve holds at least 9 Schools Records!!

Total points scored

1. 331 - BOB GLASS (47 TD, 25 PAT) - 1935-37 (I don't think this record will ever be broken)
2. 248 - HEINE KRIER (34 TD, 22 PAT) - 1932-34
3. 244 - F ASHCRAFT (39 TD, 5 PAT) - 1989-91
4. 242 - STEVE SCHOTT (155 PAT, 29 FG) - 2004-07
5. 240 - ART HASTINGS (34 TD, 18 PAT) - 1958-60
6. 218 - BRIAN GAMBLE (36 TD, 1 PAT) - 2004-06
7. 216 - JOHN TRAYLOR (36 TD) - 1951-53
8. 215 - EDGAR HERRING (35 TD, 3 PAT) - 1934-36
9. 213 - FRED BLUNT (35 TD, 2 PAT) - 1938-41
10. 204 - EDWIN HILL (34 TD) - 1922
