Before we beat his brains out, I just wanted to give Ricky Powers a word of thanks for how he played. It was a beautiful thing to watch Powers and his Buchtel teams in the late 80s. He was fluid, smooth, powerful and faster than given credit for in the open field. Twice I saw him run the ball repeatedly in 4th quarter games, everyone knew he was getting it, 9 in the box, and he succeeded anyway, sealing big victories for the Griffs. If you like High school football, it was beautiful. Thanks Ricky.

Yes, and he was a joy to watch at Michigan. He is a class act.

And as a coach, from what I've heard, he instills discipline on the team where it is needed.

I swear I saw Powers take a pitch left, go about 7 yards, reverse field, go about 10 more, cut to the middle and go the distance - and all 11 players from Ellet had a clear shot at him and missed the tackle or whiffed altogether. Unbelievable.

That's a much-needed thing. The program was a rudderless ship after the departure of their former coach. I would expect them to be playing better football soon.
