Maybe you remember this picture from the front page of the Independent a few weeks back?

During a vacation from work a few weeks ago, I personally dedicated my own time and money to bringing back what I feel is an important, memorable feature of Massillon. The orange Tiger Paws at the Massillon Wendy's Drive Thru.
It seems that many of the things that once distiguished Massillon as Tigertown have changed. From losing the maternity ward at MCH, which used to hold the tradition of every boy born in Massillon receiving a Tigers football upon birth, to the after-game bonfires by the old Tiger Store on rt 21. Those are two things we can't change, but I'm starting this thread for everyone and anyone to discuss, and post what they are doing to help keep Massillon the true Tigertown. What are you doing to show your Tiger Pride, and to let everyone who visits Massillon know, that they are without a doubt, in Tigertown?
If you see an outstanding display of Tiger pride in Massillon, make mention of it here also! Let's show everyone what Massillon is all about!

I remember that story in the Indy.
What I remember must was Junie Studers quotes about traditions.

No... just that it's not the same cause it's not done specifically at MASSILLON COMMUNITY HOSPITAL. Now there is a process. IF you are from Massillon you get a football. When you were born at MCH, you were born at a specific MASSILLON hospital. And that's what it's about. MASSILLON. The way it is now, is at least an attempt to hold on to the tradition, but you may as well hand out Tiger footballs to newborns in California... as long as you are from Massillon. Get my point?

My baby girl got a football at Aultman. I didn't fill out a form or anything, I was just from Massillon.

Same here, and the best part was the nurse who delivered it was a McK fan!

Now that just isn't right. I don't think I could have accepted a Massillon football from a Mck fan. No Way!

Massillon football historian Junie Studer said traditions change over time because society changes.
“I don’t feel that strongly about this,” he said. “The thing that matters is winning.”

Any quote from a Studer is a good quote and you can take it to the bank.

my nephew was not given a football when he was born at Timken. Even after repeated requests for one to be delivered it still never happened. in my opinion the "tradition" is non existent. it is little things that we come to expect as Massillon Tigers that are quickly fading away.
