US women place 3rd in World Cup

The US woman beat Norway to take 3rd in the World Cup.

In the semifinal game against Brazil, the idiot coach benches his starting keeper, Hope Solo, who had only given up 2 goals all tournament and had 3 straight shutouts because he felt the backup (the starting keeper from several years ago who tried to make a comeback) would be better against Brazil's style of play.

There is no way this guy's contract gets renewed. The US may still not have won against Brazil with Solo in goal, but they don't lose 4-0 in the worst loss in US woman's history either.

We'll never know if we would have beaten Marta and the rest of Brazil. The moron coach should have been fired right after the game. Hope Solo is one of my new sports heroes now for having the guts to call out what a freaking idiot the coach was for trying to relive the past with a freaking goalie that hadn't started in three years. I wouldn't let that idiot coach my girl's club team.

I think that team is in total chaos. They are split and I have a feeling that MOST of the team wanted Solo at the third place match against Norway but were afraid to voice their opinions to team leaders. This has been a program where those who don't fall in line see themselves out of the national team picture.

Everyone is so against what Solo said about the coach. If he is that big of an idiot to bench the better keeper, he deserved it. I realize that things like this should probably be kept private, but it was an emotional situation. She played absolutely great (except for one goal against South Korea where they were playing short because the coach wouldn't sub out a starter who was on the sideline getting stitches) and her reward was being benched in a tournament she had dedicated to her father who passed away...in a tournament where she is the hot keeper (similiar to going with the hot goalie in hockey). The coach has messed this team up in so many ways it isn't funny. As far as her comments about the other keeper, Briana Scurry....very few people realize that Scurry made similiar public comments a few years ago about another keeper. Maybe what goes around comes around.

What seems pretty obvious is that the other countries have caught up with the US women. They have even been passed in technique and skill. No longer will sending the best athletes cut it anymore.

This coach is making himself look like an even bigger moron. Hope Solo was not allowed to attend the 3rd place game, not allowed to get her medal with the team, and may not be allowed to fly back home with the team.

They are getting rid of Greg Ryan. I still can't believe he benched the keeper who got him there. I hope the new coach will give Hope Solo a fair shot in goal.

One thing is for sure, the US woman have fallen behind the world in soccer skills. No longer will they be able to just use superior athletes to win games.
