"Wednesday, the Massillon Board of Education continued to move forward with plans for the district’s DREAM (Developing Resources for Education and Athletic in Massillon) project. Assistant Superintendent Marva K. Jones announced the district is seeking additional funds to help stabilize the educational facet of the DREAM project. Massillon, she said, is applying for a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation."

The curriculum for the educational facet is also taking shape. The board approved a resolution that will allow senior students in the DREAM project to take dual-credit classes, earning the students both high school and college credit. Upon graduation from Washington High, DREAM students will have a total of six college credits – three in health sciences and three in language arts. Those courses are free, saving students one semester of tuition.
Getting ANY college credits for free is a great thing. Since when is 6 credits equal to a one semester though?
Massillon Superintendent Fred Blosser said the classes are likely to begin after the winter holiday season and may be taught by Washington High School teachers hired by Walsh University as adjunct professors.
“Walsh can hire high school teachers if they have enough education to be considered as an adjunct professors,” Blosser said. “We believe that we have, both in our heath science and in our language arts departments, present Washington High School teachers that would meet that criteria and could teach those classes for Walsh after the normal school day.”
Does this mean that Massillon City schools can save on salaries since these classes will be taught during the school day and will be paid by Walsh?

.. i TOTALLY agree. I took the teaching Professions Class my Junior and Senior year.. and got 6 college credits for it. It was a great opportunity because i was able to get sooo many of the "cupcake" courses out of the way.. and now as a Sophomore I am taking courses that are specific to my major...if you get enough college credits they can even help you graduate up to a semester early.. which a a pretty big deal considering how expensive college is!!
6 credits is just a VERY small portion of a semester... classes are counted by credits.. meaning you get one credit per hour you are in class per week.. so if a class is 3 hours long.. you get 3 credits... if it is 2 hours long you get 2 credits and so on and so on..and those 6 credits plus all of the other classes you get credits for add up and that is how your status ( Fresh Soph etc..) is determined.... does this make sense?
