I urge you to start a petition or a letter to Cedar Fair and stop this nonsense.
This is truely the end of an era.

It's sad, but it's a part of today's economy. Many families simply cannot afford to go at all. Others will go just once, instead of making multiple trips.

What are the prices for Cedar Point now? I wonder how that compares to Disney.

I remember when they were $35. Probably more like $50 now. That would be $200 for a family of four just to get into the park for a day. Tack on food and gas, a couple of bucks for games/souvenirs, and that is one expensive day.

Let's sell Genshaft, use the proceeds to get a sweet deal on some roller coasters, then plop them down at the Legends!

As I said before contact Cedar Fair and express your displeasure. The more voices the better although powerful people usually dont listen to the little man you nver know unless you speak up.

FYI Rumor is X_flight is going to Cedar Point.
Further Cedar Point is $42.95Each for admission.

Again contact Cedar Fair and tell them how you feel.

Smells like a Wal-Mart Stores stunt.

I thought I heard they were just getting rid of the roller coasters and strictly making it into a water park?

That IMO is a good idea for the park. Being in the same state as Cedar Point the only way that it was going to pull people away from there is to offer a better roller coaster and I don't see that happening. I think having strictly the waterpark will make Geuage Lake offer something strictly unique and could potentially draw more people.

I have said this many a times, Cedar Point is the biggest rip off there is. $43 bucks just to get you in the door and that doesn't even include your meals or gas to drive up there. Then you have to stand in line for at least over a hour to ride ONE ride.

X-FLIGHT is allready at Kings Island. I was down there this past summer and they renamed it the "firehawk" and repainted it Red and black.

Fact is... It's a business. That may be losing money... You have to adjust your business, or lose it all.

Frankly, I have never liked Geauga Lake. It's always been Cedar Point.

Why pay for a family of four over $200 to go to CP? Why not buy four season passes, use them twice and they are paid off, go the third and however many more times that summer for free...

Then go once or twice a month!

don't forget the rip off part of having to pay at least $9 for parking...

don't they realize that what they might lose in lower admittance fees, they would make up in volume...

cedar point used to be a pleasant day away for a family...now it is the entire vacation

Geauga Lake holds precious memories as I might have mentioned before. My late aunt would take us there and Cedar Point every summer growing up.

Save GL.

Are you sure it is indeed X-Flight at K.I.?

Yes it is, I rode it this year at Kings Island as Firehawk.

I can see they still have issues keeping this ride running....

As for GL, Six Flags killed that park. Cedar Fair tried to stop the bleeding, but it was already too late. Six Flags packed in too many rides into 1 really small area. Not only that, their park management was awful.

Oh Lord here we go again. First, why is it nonsense? Because you have memories of 20 years ago? Ask the freaking CEO that is losing his a$$ there if he cares about that. I would have thought that the debacle of the Longfellow gym floor would have educated your perspective on things but apparently not. IT WASN'T MAKING MONEY. Perhaps if you would have quit reminiscing about the place and gone there a few more times they would still be open. And they are not closing the entire park down. Just 1/2 of it. Misinformation yet again.

Funny. When is the last time anyone has been to GL?

Once, 22 years ago for me......

Why go to GL when you can go to CP?

Close it and make a nice parking lot............

I have never been to Geuaga Lake and haven't been to Cedar Point for about 20 years. It more fun when you are younger. I would rather go to Myrtle Beach.

Exactly, SB. Unbelievable sometimes. And then to call the closing "nonsense". I wish he would put some logic with THAT one.

How can they make money when they havet put anything into the darn amusement side in the 4yrs they have owned it? There was room for more rides even coasters. Could have bought more property and expanded and built more rides on that as well. If you dont invest you dont profit. There are water parks around.
Could CP's days be numbered as well?

If you dont like the high prices of Cedar Point, you can always go to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana
Their park is half the price of Cedar Point.
They have free parking.
Free pop, and free sun block.

Haloday Worls ia also home to 3 of the best wooden coasters in one park

No. That park and its parent company do quite well. From a business perspective, I'm sure they looked at closing that portion of Geauga Lake as "trimming the dead wood."

They spent MILLIONS on the waterpark! They also rehabed The Villian and Raging Wolf Bobs, costing $$$. They did everything they could to get the guests to come in. They even moved 2 of the most costly rides to operate (X-Flight and Steel Venom) to keep the park out of the red. Even that didn't work.

How can you say they did nothing? And I did visit park last year, and I did enjoy the rides and the water park very much. We didn't go this season since we went to Kings Island.

It's too bad that Six Flags killed this historic park. Cedar Fair tried to bring it back to life, but it was too late. The damage was already done.

The most recent admission price was I believe was $26.95 + parking.
Its gone now so nothing anyone can do anyways. I just hope Dominator (Batman Knight Flight) and Thunderhawk (Serial Thriller) comes to CP. CP already has Raptor so I dont know about Thunderhawk. As for Dominator CP has yet to have a Floorless.

What did SixFlags do to kill the park out of curiousity?

gotigers1

The Orignal Geauga Lake was a Family theme park. They had a nice collection of roller coasters, the water park and family rides. Places to have picnics and company outings. Along come Premier Parks that buys out the park. Premier Parks keep things going well, till Premier Parks were bought out by Six Flags.

Six Flags starting ploping roller coasters everywhere and tried to compete with Cedar Point. The took out all of the picnic areas for The Vilian. Park management wasn't the best. There were many complaints that the park was unclean and the staff members were not very nice. This was seen at more than 1 Six Flags park in the chain. Word got out and the attendence dropped not only at Six Flags Ohio, but at the parks across the USA. As as way to get bodies back into the park, Six Flags buys out Sea World of Ohio and creates Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. The first season, the attendence did go up, but drop off again after the first season.

The writing was on the wall for Six Flags WoA. The poor management of the park and the reputation of the park killed it. Not even Cedar Fair could stop the bleeding of this park. A $20+ Million waterpark, new picnic areas and ride upgrades could not stop Geauga Lake's fate.

I can just hope that the Big Dipper can stay here in Ohio. It's a Great old wooden rollercoaster.

Yes.It was left a rusting hulk for a long time but has been cleaned up in the last twelve years or so.There's just a big empty field with a power transformer sitting there now.

Give me a break.

First off, it's not uncommon for a CEO to buy stock. Sometimes it's to show confidence during a transition period, like the one they're in now with the closing of Geauga Lake. At any rate, it looks like the stock has taken a nosedive since July.

Geauga Lake is a disaster. It always played second fiddle to Cedar Point, and only got worse when Six Flags stepped in. For every one good comment, you'd hear ten bad ones- poor maintenance, rude employees, etc. Didn't the Raging Wolf Bobs crash a few years back? Sounds like someplace I'd want to go.

You mentioned investing more money into the park...why? Six Flags did when they plopped down coasters in every last nook and cranny. Cedar Fair dropped some cash when they bought it, trying to right the ship. Attendance is down, so the investment capital is likely not there. Better to cut your losses now rather than throw money into the fire only to watch it burn.

Furthermore, they never should have sold the animals from the former Sea World. I spent a good chunk of time there during my last visit several years ago because half the damn rides were broken.

Maybe you can buy a condo up there when they redevelop the property.
