It's sad people have to lose their jobs. I was downsized from Doctor's in 1996. I think everyone knew this was coming. I called my ex coworkers this morning and so far they are still there. I can't imagine the stress people are under working for Affinity. But they have known for at least 10 years the hospital has been in limbo. They could have chosen to go find another job years ago. Hopefully Affinity will stay open so we still have a choice of hospitals in western Stark county.

I would say, NO. I expect in the near future you will see either Massillon or Doctor's hospital close. Its too expensive to run two medical campuses in a close proximety of each other.

I recall that the published plans envisioned a new combined facility to be built in a 3 - 5 year period after the merger. I hope they keep to that plan, and could ease community tensions if they again state their future plans for the hospital.
I also have heard that very few Massillon workers are in HMOs that use Affinity as the primary hospital. They may want to support their local hospital but end up at Aultman or Mercy due to insurance reasons.

Choice and competition is a good thing. While Aultman gets high marks for their level of care, you don't want them to have a monopoly in the Stark healthcare market.
