My father retired 20 years ago from B.F. Goodrich in Akron. Today, he received a call from a guy he worked with there who is a Mentor Booster/fan. Believe it or not, my father has not spoken with this guy in the 20 years that he has been gone. In fact, he didn't even know who the guy was at first. Anyway, this guy wanted to acknowledge that we should have won the game last year and then went on to offer my dad 20 points to bet him cause Mentor is going to blow our *** out of the stadium. My dad, being the cool guy he is, said "I haven't talked to you in 20 years. Why would you think I would want to bet you? Listen, we like it went people come to our town, buy our tickets, spend money in our town and at our stadium- have a safe trip" and hung up. It never ceases to amaze me how long someone can carry their envy. This poor soul had to wait all those years to be in a position to make that call. Wonder what he has been doing all that time- sitting up there, waiting to call my dad in Massillon!! Amazing

I hope he enjoys it because Mentor will be back to their mediocre teams starting next year. He's had a good two year run with one win over Massillon.

I think he should have bet him getting all those points! I wondered if he had to drink red bull to make that call?

As I have stated before, I hope their team comes in just as cocky as all of their fans. We have had a rough start, but this team is more than capable of doing the job. The biggest mistake one can make is to underestimate their opponent, especially when that opponent is the Massillon Tigers.

Tell that guy to save his money and buy some class.

Having had the opportunity to play for the Tigers many, many years ago (the early 50's, when we won a state title every year), then also having the chance to coach the Mentor Cardinals (the early the 60's). Mentor has always had a respect for the Tiger program. That being said, we at Mentor didn't consider OUR program mediocre. In fact we opened our 66 or 67 season with a win over the Tigers, in Massillon. So it isn't a flash-in-the-pan program. I do, however, hope the Tigers can iron out their problems on offense and rise to the occasion and prevail in tonights game. GO TIGERS Beat the Cardinals!!!

If that's all he has to worry and think about, I envy him!

LOL!

actoral, can I assume you coached at Mentor with Coach "D" who earlier coached with Leo Strang when both were at Massillon?

tig62, I don't know who coach D is. I coached with Dick Crum who later coached at Miami of Ohio and at the University of North Carolina. I moved to PA where I coached at Franklin H.S. and Venango Catholic H.S. I was hoping the TIGERS would defeat Mentor, but I'm glad Mentor has a recognized program. Perhaps, if the TIGERS run the table they (the TIGERS and Cardinals) will meet again. One can only hope.

I don't think that guy can brag too much when his team gave up 52 points.

After giving it some thought I'm guessing you are refering to Frank Domokos who coached at Geauga Lake H.S.. He may have coached at Mentor, but when I was at Mentor he was at GLHS.

actoral, indeed, I was referring to Frank Domokos. It sticks in my mind that he was Mentor's head coach not long after he left Massillon in the early 60's. Man am I getting old.

Could be wrong, but I thought Coach Domokos left Massillon after the '58 or '59 season.

I believe he was the Mentor AD sometime in the 1980s.

A win is a win. I would love to win, despite how many points we gave up !!

I'm sure that the Mentor fans were surprised at the end result !!!
