its a person who bleeds orange and black. works hard on and off the field. is responsable for his or her actions. who respects others and does what ever it takes to get the job done. taking care of academics. never giving up or taking the easy way out. we have on our shirts this year uphold the tradition. so will our young men uphold there end of the tradition? i sure think and HOPE that most will.
wishing you the best

Sad to say, but.............. when Stu left us, so did a part of the "Tradition" of which you speak.
There is nobody to "pass the torch" to these up & coming kids.
The Tiger Traditon , as we all knew it, will NEVER be the same.:bomb:
What is a true tiger???-----Me thats who!!!LOL
Seriously,
All we have to do is bring in a few "true tigers" to coach the team!!!

i think we have plenty of former players coaching on this staff, pachis, harig, carpenter, strawder, marshall, weber, hack, rose and stacy both had prior stints here as coaches, what i'm not sure of is if the message is getting across or if the message is even being put out. IMO what these players need is a course on massillon tiger football. have a film night with highlights of the massillon teams from the 60's, 70's, 80's and so on. and start taking away some of the privilages that go with being a tiger. because if your not going to play like a tiger then you shoudn't be treated like one. i have no problem with losing a football game to a better team, but that hasn't happened yet. its time to earn your stripes.

Some of the former tigers you mentioned above are not emotional enough to put any fear into these players---just IMO!!! Look at the tapes and sidelines---Checca is the only coach with fire out there---shame, shame, shame!!!
I think you are exactly right. I know it was true for me. Maybe not so much in college or pro but at middle school and hs I think you need to be afraid of your coach, or other authority figures. When Letcavits or Vrotsos or Walterhouse or Dean or Daniels told you something man you walked the line! Just out of fear. A few of the others I wont mention were a little more friendly & I liked at the time, but looking back on it now they didn't push me.
Maybe the friendlier version works for other programs, other schools, catholics, suburbs... I dont know. Maybe its just Massillon. We got some hard nuts here - which used to be a good thing.

In this wonderful PC world can you have a coach like Wells, Vrotos, Commings, or will Johnny go running home to mommy and daddy and complain how it has been abused?
You know on the one hand we've done this to ourselves. We won't allow teachers, or anyone who is supposed to be in authority to have any authority without the potential for a law suit if they look sideways at a student.
Today's kids couldn't handle some of the stuff that past coaches dished out.
We are creating a future world of wimps. I'd hate to think that we might have to stand up and defend this country 20 years down the road because I don't thinnk there will be anyone to do it. We are dumbing down our youth and making them to PC. Would want them to hurt anyone's feelings. Kids don't know how to handle adversity. They either quit or whine.

Stu is far from dead and the torch isn't put out. You just need to find the guys that are still holding it.

We've got one and maybe two of Stu's blood-line at Lexington.

Good post - one must EARN his stripes in order to appreciate the tradition!

Well it's do or die tonight - this Ursuline team is big, fast and experienced. If the Tigers can't get up for this one, at home and after Parma then it's going to be a long, long year - it only gets tougher on the schedule.
Regardless of being Tigers - they are still a football team that need to start playing like one - starting tonight.
