Not sure how many people are aware of this, but the MTSB was subject to several incidents of unexcusable treatment last night by Normany fans, both adults and students. As they were waiting to march on the field, they were being hit with items thrown from the stands. The majorettes were called whores over and over. Player #44 ran back and forth in front of the band screaming F*** Massillon and other obscenities and THEN GRABBED A MAJORETTE BY HER SHOULDERS SCREAMED IN HER FACE AND SHOVED HER BACKWARDS. Police officers were present and simply walked past. I believe our administration needs to contact Normandy Monday morning.

This reminds me of why we had stopped playing other teams in the past.

We bring this on ourselves. We talk so much about how superior we are and our tradition and we like to thnk we are better than all other programs (which I think we are ) but what that does is set up this type of behavior when you lose. People love to beat us, people love to put our faces in it. They are jealous of what we have. Beating us is a huge badge of honor.

Every year we hope we get it together to win it all and get the monkey off our backs but it is always something. To me this frustration is as much as part of being a Tiger fan as it is to wearing orange and black.

That too being said there is no excuse for that behavior, a flag should have ben thrown or at the very lest a warning should have been given.

I cant take it anymore, someone please put me out of my misery. The frustration is too much to bear!!

kids seem to do this anymore just as a way of life...they think absolutely nothing wrong of letting these words come out of their little faces...certain names we would never have dreamed of calling our worst enemies, they call their "supposed" friends...had that happen in a local coffee house a few days ago...i was appalled at the obsenities that came out of these young people's mouth...to the point where i turned around and said something about it...didn't faze them a bit...claimed their parents were quite okay with their vocabulary...

sadly, that is the culture of too many of our teens today...

Did you see what Normandy did after the game?

They took a team picture in front of the scoreboard. Will make a nice christmas card to send to stacy next year in thanks for us coming up there to play them.

The parking and support staff could not have been friendlier. I also had a friendly conversation with some Normandy fans before the game. After the game a few kids and one adult shouted something in our direction. But it wasn't as bad as other places. hrmjenl, I didn't see what you witnessed. There's no excuse for throwing things or making contact with a majorette.

I don't see anything wrong with taking the picture. Probably the biggest win in their program's history. I don't really even find it distasteful. I would love for Massillon to take a picture of the scoreboard after winning the state championship game.

No it's not distasteful it just proves the point that beating us is huge for other teams. And yes I hope they do send a copy in a x mas card to all of the coaching staff to thank them for being so simplistic and one dimensional in their play calling.

What happened to all this great offensive schemes we were going to see? It feels like I have been transported back into time to the mid to late 90's!

If these incidents did take place, they are inexcusable, but please don't be naive enough to think that Tiger players and fans aren't party to this type of behavior at times. It's a general lack of civility and respect throughout society that touches down in every sports program in the country at one time or another, not only those in Cuyahoga County as mentioned in another post.

You always hope that players and fans will act properly, but the reality is that it doesn't always happen.

Nothing distasteful about it at all in my opinion. What's distasteful is the number that was lit up for he home side. THAT was distasteful.

I suggest before we point the finger at them, that we look in our own backyard. I personally witnessed a group of Massillon fans berating the drumline form Parma as they were exiting the field because they made us wait 30 seconds while they did so. I have never been embarassed to be a Tiger fan, but these idiots made us ALL look bad.

They made irresponsible comments about how the refs screwed us, the fans were rude, and now we have to wait while you walk off the field.

People outside Massillon hate us for a lot of BS reasons. Some of our fans just gave Parma Normandy a LEGITIMATE reason to do so.

A true Tiger hates to lose, more that anything. But we do so with class, and keep our mouths shut. When we as a city, and fanbase, realize and practice this, we will get the respect we think we deserve!

- x - = + And I thought this rule only applied in mathematics.

P.S. hrmjenl, consider personally writing a civil letter to the Normandy coach explaining the incidence. If I was a game attending parent and I found out that some player physically grabbed my daughter, his coach, he and myself would have an afterglow game talk.

You are right there. Kids in general seem to lack respect these days. (OMG I just felt old for the first time!! I just became my father!!) But it is true there is a real lack of respect these days among the youth.

I look at these other schools that come in here and I get jealous when I hear their student section doing these cool college style chants in unison. I hate it but I respect them and envy them. With our kids I worry about them carrying on the tradition. I wonder if this means anything to them?

Before the game, I was told by several of their fans that they had never "played up to this level." They didn't make the playoffs last year. They lost in the first rounds in 2004 and 2005. The only D-1 teams of any significance they had beaten recently were Elyria (6-4) and Strongsville (6-4 in 2005). Their coach should be credited for greatly improving the team (they were 0-10 in 2002). But it's hard to argue that the win was not one of the biggest in their history.

Which is no excuse. Chants like "overrated" have no place. Yelling at or getting physical with bands, majorettes, drum lines, etc. is inexcusable. If the players on a team are participating, a formal letter of complaint should be sent.

It's been a disappointment to me that our administration hasn't done more to police our student section. And frankly, some of our "adult" fans are downright embarrassing. It misses the point entirely when the behavior is justified by a flimsy rationalization that other schools are just as bad (or worse).

A-holes are a-holes. No matter what team they support.

I don't see the big deal with chanting overrated either. If the team played the way they are capable of and the coaches coached the way they are capable of, we wouldn't have to worry about anyone saying Massillon was overrated.

It has nothing to do with Massillon in particular. It is about winning or losing a game, and doing so with dignity - it is not about humiliating your opponent. The scoreboard should give you all of the pleasure that you need. If you get your kicks from the unhappiness of others, if you revel in others' misery, or if you think that you're a better man because you mock people, you are a sick f*ck.

You've lost the moral high ground when you stoop to this level. Others may choose to wallow in the gutter, but Massillon should never bend that low.

Growling Tiger:

There are poor sports in every town, I personally witnessed a Massillon fan in his twenties cold cock a McKinley fan on the field after a Massillon loss during the 80's. I also remember seeing Massillon fans spitting on Ignatius players in the Rubber Bowl during one of the playoff losses. These individuals do not represent every fan in their community but they sure make a bad impression to the casual fan. So Massillon is not without its share of idiot fans.
