Hours before the Football game on Saturday, the Lady Tigers Soccer team played host to the Warriors of Carrollton. The match was hard fought by both sides and was scoreless at the end of the first 40 minute period. However in the second and final 40 minutes the Lady Tigers punched one in for a 1-0 lead and fought their way to victory for the first time this year and for what I think is there first win in a couple of years. Earlier in the week they tied Our Lady of the Elms, from Akron and was very close to pulling that one out too. Coach Young is in her first year and is getting these girls to play hard, practice hard and understand the game more each time they take the field. Great job Coach and Congrates on a well deserved WIN!!!:gogogo:

And let me add my 2 cents...
The lone scorer was our very own moderator seeker's daughter!

Congrats to the girls. I had heard about the tie earlier. Keep up the good work!
Anyone know how the boys are doing? I know they had a stud player who was potentially going to be leaving for Italy to play.

How did she score Seeker? Was it assisted? Just curious.
Are the girls still in a league. I know several years ago there was a league formed for girls soccer with massillon, mckinley, I think firestone and a few others.

They play very well as a team.
One of the other players sent it near the goal and Bebe kneed it in through the corner.
They are not in a league. They are independent just like all the other sports.
BTW, it's been nearly three years since they had a W. Some ties, but no W's.
The girls that are seniors this year have not seen a win since they were freshmen.

The boys are 1-2 and play Alliance at Alliance on the 7th. They lost to Dover and Central but beat Northwest. They have been playing with a backup at Goalie and he has done a good job, however the starter is now back from Basic in Fort Sile, OK and is working his way back up to speed. Good Luck to both teams all year and I'll be watching ya!!!:gogogo:

Thanks for the updates UnionTiger. Please continue to let me know how both teams do.
Although Nortwest isn't as good as the late 90s when they made it to the state finals, that is still a pretty big win for the boys. Alliance will be a tough game for them.
The girls team seems to be doing as well as any previous girls team that I can remember. Keep up the good work!

Hey everyone!!
Have any of you watched the soccer games on Saturday mornings at New Community Park-you know the ones sponsored by the Y and the Rec Center?
Talk about a feeder system for high school soccer!!
Ages begin around 6 I believe and go up to 12.
The pint-sized ones are just so cute to watch and the older ones are improving every game!
Do they play soccer at the Middle School? Another excellent feeder system there if they would.

Soccer isn't really a middle school sport in Ohio. Most kids play for club teams at this age. I know a few high schools where there are not club teams started middle school teams (Dover, Tusky Valley). The only decent club in the area is Boca. I think they are based in Green. Most of the good clubs are in Akron/Cleveland but parents from the Canton/Massillon area are willing to drive that far.
If you want to see a feeder program, look at Jackson. There's is huge. Coached at a few of their camps and they have several freshman/soph. starting on a varsity which only lost by a goal to the state's top team. They will be going far in the tournament in the next few years.
Although many more of the soccer players at Massillon have experience from the rec/Y leagues than when the program first started, very few have had the club experience against good competition. From what I have seen only 1-2 players on the Varsity team have played club ball while almost all of the players at Jackson, Hoover, Glen Oak, etc. have played.

this is great news. I have coached soccer for the parks and rec center (11 to 14 year olds.) now for 12 seasons. Alot of the high school players, boys and girls, I coached thru the parks and rec center. Its a thrill for me to see them succeed at the high school level. Congrats girls on your great season, I know its been a long time comming.

What happened at the game today? Does anyone know the score? Seeker?

Looks like the girls lost 1-0 to McKinley. According to the paper Massillon outshot McKinley and had more corner kicks.
Seeker, or anyone else there: How did McKinley score? Was it a lucky shot our a well built up play?
I am also curious as to McKinley's keeper. If the coach is still the same, their coach was a good keeper in high school and college. I have a feeling that keeper is the strongest position for McKinley.
