Although, Schott did a nice job of punting, I don't really like to seeing him back there. One cheap shot or even a blocked punt and we could lose a valuable weapon. Clark did a very good job punting in practices and scrimmages, plus would be an extra weapon there for the defense to consider. Any thoughts?

I haven't seen Partridge punt, but if he can, he would be a weapon back there, as well. However, I prefer not using a sophomore to do the punting.

I was thinking about him being a weapon but I don't know if he has what it takes to be put back there as a punter, I was told he is the punter on the JV team.
How many years has Schott been doing the FG's and PAT's ?

I think Schott's been back there 4years. and did a great job as a Freshman, Sph, and Jr. and it looks like he's going to do another great job. Especially, with those longs KO's out of the end-zone.

Mike Clark is the other punter and I think he has been doing a little better then Steve but he also is a Q.B. and he could take a cheap shot. I like Clark back there because he is a Q.B. and he has great speed if you get a bad snap and he has to run with it. With the threat of him throwing or running the ball ,I think it helps to slow down the rush. GO TIGERS BEAT SOLON

If all things are equal (punting-wise) between Clark and Schott, I would rather have Clark back there. A cheap shot to Clark and we are still ok at qb. I cheap shot to Schott and we are in trouble in the kicking game. With Clark there is also that possibility of a run or pass.
With Clark, maybe we could also bring back the quick kick again. :jestera:

I disagree 100%. You can't play the game thinking people will get hurt. How many punters get hurt on punt a year? Is it possible, yes, is it likely, no. He is just as easily vulnerable when kicking field goals. Should Bobby Huth not have been the holder last year on FG's because someone could easily have taken a cheap shot at him. Let Steve display his talents as a punter as well as a kicker. His kickoffs were awesome on Fri. that is a great weopon to have. It reminded me of the Abdull days.
I also would like to see Clark as well but the season is young and we still might.

Clark is a better punter
If that is true, then he should be the punter.

Clark gets more distance but Schott has more hang time and cotroll.

Hang time is very important as if you kick it 40 yards on a rope, the return man will catch it and be going full speed before the coverage gets to him and he will blow past them. You want the returner looking for the ball with the coverage right around him as he makes the catch.

I'll take the hang time !! With our recent year's kick coverage, we need all the advantages we can muster !!:TIG2:

I also noticed that at least two of Schott's punts were angled to the sideline.
If he has the control to kick it accurately at the sideline (ie. just out of bounds), returns can be avoided altogether:scratchchin:

Wish we had that play in the playbook two seasons ago:oops2:

The reason for the angle punt is to force the returner (if only one is back) to run a good distance to field the ball, focuse the coverage to one side of the field and/or kick out of bounds to eliminate a return. This is one reason why I can't figure out why we don't have Torrence back their with Hildreth. Torrence is such a weapon on returns that not one kick-off has been directed his way. Why not put him back on punt returns and force them to punt it to Hildreth, who is a damn good returner?

I think in high school you should have 2 guys back for punts. Slider, out!!!
