At the risk of this topic being controversial, I decided to go ahead and post it and let obiefan and gang decide if it should stay up!
I find the topic interesting, and I'm even more interested to see what the true Buckeye fans have to say about all 3 of these players.
I'm just wondering which of the following 3 players YOU are most dissapointed in since they first stepped onto the campus of OSU as a student/athlete. I'm looking for the football player that has dissapointed you as a fan the most. Lets remember that the majority of Maurice Clarett's problems have been off the football field, but lets not forget that he had many problems on the sidelines, and even during the week of the National Championship game, which oh by the way, he was a huge part of winning!
Here's the list:
1. Maurice Clarret
2. Mike D'Andrea
3. Justin Zwick
All 3 of these athletes came to OSU as great athletes, and great things were expected of them ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD by Buckeye fans!
My choice is Mike D'Andrea. He came in as a can't miss "Animal" at the LB position and did ZERO. I realize he's been injured, and that's part of the game, but I'm still more dissapointed by his absence on the field then I am by Justin or Maurice.
Your thoughts please!

Clarett, hands down, end of story. I'll spare you all the details.

Maurice might be the biggest disappointment in Ohio State history. He could have gone down as the best RB to ever play at OSU and given our history that would put him among college football's all time best. But, he was always out for himself. I can't say that I have any sympathy for him because all of his troubles were self-inflicted.
D-Andrea on the other hand was a player who just never panned out and was saddled with injuries his entire career. I'm not disappointed in him, it was just one of those things where it didn't work out. Coming out of Avon Lake he was much more highly sought after than both Hawk and Carpenter.
Zwick...I don't know what can be said. I think everyone in Massillon was really rooting for him to do well at Ohio State. But when the chips were down, Troy Smith just rose to the occasion. He's had two of the most remarkable Michigan games that any Ohio State QB has ever had. If he beats Michigan again he'll be remembered as an Ohio State legend forever.
To me, this arguement is simple....Maurice. He's been the biggest black eye that OSU has ever had.

TWBT,
It's good to hear from you again. Please visit more often. Based on the 3 choices you put to us, I have to choose Maurice Clarett as the biggest disappointment to OSU football. Here's my opinion why:
Both Mike D'Andrea and Justin Zwick are still on the team and have given their best. Unfortunately, D'Andrea keeps tearing up his knee and has decided to hang it up. (It was just reported this morning in the ABJ). I can hardly put shame, blame or any other fault on a kid who gave his best and because of injuries, just couldn't fulfill his expectations. Injuries are part of the game and risk you take as a football player.
Justin has the skills, both physically and mentally, to make it to the next level I believe. Because of coaching style, timing of the development of the talent around him, an injury to his shoulder, and a crucial dropped pass in a big game has just added up against him. You can maybe add alumni pressures to that list. But give Troy Smith credit also, he was given a chance and ran with it (no pun intended). Unfortunately, Justin has to wait his turn again, and as I mentioned, his turn may be next year in a NFL camp. I can't say Justin has been a disapointment either. He has given his best and things haven't worked in his favor. That doesn't mean he is a bad player or a waste of a scholarship. At the Division I level, there's more than just talent that goes into the equation, believe me.
Maurice is the overwhelming choice because he cheated his teammates, his school and his fans out of maybe a couple national titles. Being as selfish as he is and doing some of the dumb things he has, he not only wasted his talent, but wasted an opportunity for many other teammates. Unlike Mike D'Andrea and Justin Zwick, he was not there for the 12 months of work it takes to be a Division I teammate.
Just my opinion, but it's usually right! LOL

TigerCoach,
I am getting venomously tired of Troy Smith. When his pride was on the line, he knew who to turn to...and Michigan just hasn't been able to stop him since!

Thanks for all of the responses so far. I think it's interesting that the overwhelming choice so far has been Maurice. Why? Because I was referring to dissapointments on the football field and M.C. quite possibly played the biggest part in OSU winning the National Championship. I totally agree that he's been a jerk and a terrible citizen, but the reason I posed this question was because the guys on ESPN were remarking about the Dallas Cowboy fans giving T.O. a standing ovation when he took the field last night, and went on to say that Dallas would be the only place in the NFL that would greet him that way because "football fans" will put wins ahead of "everything else" when it comes right down to it.
Evidently that isn't true with OSU fans because nobodys willing to forget Clarett's actions on or off the field in light of the National Championship he helped secure.
TC! I hope to visit the forumns periodically and offer some constructive comments. I won't be engaging in any political debates due to the environment we all find ourselves in today. Our Nation is more divided than it's ever been due to some extremely important issues, and I've accepted the fact that NO ONE PERSON, or, POLITICAL PARTY has all of the answers. Clarett is a disgrace to humanity, much less the Buckeyes. He is also the biggest disappointment on the football field because at one time he was a lock for the NFL, which would have brought him millions. His off the field antics are directly related to him being a disappointment on the field.

Because I was referring to dissapointments on the football field
This is what I thought when I read the topic. Based on this,I was going to go with D'Andrea. Without Maurice we don't win the national championship. I also really believe that if the touchdown pass in the Texas game had not been dropped that Justin would be the starter today.

I used to feel sorry for him after the first and even second incident. Now I just want him to go away.
Was he a disappointment on the football field? I would have to say no. If we are talking about overall disappointment, then yes. He could have made millions in the NFL. He hurt his team, school and fans as TigerCoach mentioned.
His off the field antics are directly related to him being a disappointment on the field.
I guess this is really where the debate lies. If we are talking strictly on the football field, then I don't think he disappointed. If we talk about off the field problems that caused him to not be able to play, win championships and make millions, then yes, he was a disappointment on the field as well.
Good conversation topic TWBT!

Maurice Clarret.
So much talent. It's a shame he threw it all away just so he could spend the rest of his running from the law.

Great thoughts on Zwick. I agree totally. He has accepted his role to be ready to take over if called upon at OSU. They said on the game broadcast that Zwick is helping Troy study film & get ready for the games.
Zwick is smart & he is a team player. He will get a shot in the NFL.
My Zwick prediction is....He will get paid alot of money to carry a clipboard for a couple of years in the NFL & then he will step up and be a solid QB in the league.
I hope he don't go to the Browns. He needs to go somewhere that believes in drafting O-Lineman.....

And Maurice Clarret gets the win by a long shot.

Based on his play Saturday, I'd say Kerr is a bit of a disappointment. From being the third leading tackler in the big ten as a freshman to his mediocre performance Saturday seems like a big drop in performance. He was suspended for one year for undiclosed violations of team rules and he just hasn't been the same since.

He was third in the Big Ten in tackles at Indiana. I can't imagine their defense was off the field that much. But I agree I thought he was going to be a little better than he showed.
The word is that Ross Homan is going to be getting a LOT more playing time and may even be starting soon. I just wish our D had one more tune-up before this game against Texas.
The announcers on Buckeye Roundtable show last night said that Kerr was playing injured on Saturday. Must have been from the hit he put on Justin in practice
