I am patiently waiting to get the first preview on the Lake Blue Streaks come Wednesday but you know...I have to take the time out to provide some memories from my Massillon experience that I will always cherish.........enjoy!
On forgetting my tape recorder: "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ON SCHEDULE! FOCUS! FOCUS!"
--Wow...I thought Coach Stacy delivered hard...Massillon fans delivered harder when I forgot my tape recorder. I'll never forget looking into the eyes of MTown, longtimefirsttime, MTowngirlygirl, and definitely Bambo. Everyone let me have it and good!
On physical bone-breaking play: "Gee, I am a little confused (Keno). You stated, I believe in physical, bone-breaking play by the Steelers. Remember when they knocked players out of the game in the 70's? Remember when they knocked four New England players out of the game? Correct? Yet you say you don't wish harm on the opposing team's players. How does one execute bone-breaking play without causing physical harm?"
--Wow, Kamd50 rode me real good with that as she found my biggest weakness as a Pittsburgh Steelers fan...but when you are raised with compassion and you want athletes (fathers on the field) to see their sons or daughters grow up in life, it is well-validated. She has compassion as a devoted mother and doesn't want any child to see their father-athlete in the hospital.
On Massillon advancing to the state title game: "Keno, are we better than Lakewood St. Edward?"
--That coming from MTown, who was heavily upset along with other Massillon fans with my claim that Cleveland St. Ignatius and Warren Harding were better teams than Massillon dating back to the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Beating St. Edward in the state semifinal was validation for the Tigers enough said. And yes...Massillon is better than St. Edward.
On Massillon's 65-6 win over Cincinnati Western Hills: "Keno...please don't wear red into the pressbox next week. It's (you-know-who)."
--A Massillon pressbox official told me about that before I left for the night. That's all right...I wore an all-black suit with a gold tie and a dress hat.
On my love for Dennis Miller: "Keno, you just lied to Dennis Miller and his blood. You said you never took my football and you swore on his name. You lied to him."
--Bambo had to say that at a tailgate. Thank goodness I wasn't raised Catholic, I'd be letting down my Pittsburgh legend big time!
On meeting CarlE and Steeler chatter: "I never doubted you for one second Keno."
--CarlE knew about my Pittsburgh women and after I showed him some pics of me with some, he knew I was a Pittsburgh playboy at Mount Union. To meet him in person was a great day I'll never forget.
On graduating from Mount Union College: "Keno! Congratulations, well done!"
--Tiger Don...from the man himself. To graduate with his son, I wouldn't have wanted it no other way. And you can add Michael Groff to that list as well!
On Mount Union football: "Keno used to always say GOOOO PURPLE RAIDERS!"
--Jason Jarvis just HAD to let Brett Huffman in on that along with the rest of the crew...you won't know how many times they all wanted to hear that!!!!!
On my blue three-piece at the state title game: "Keno! Let's see what you got!"
--Xtiger was dressed for gear in his army boots and clothes. I had to show my light-blue three-piece suit. Somehow, a friend of mine who is "Bringing The Pain" wasn't too compassionate at me unsheating my brown dress coat and revealing my suit in cold temperatures but what the heck (LOL)!
On agreeing with CarlE: "Amen CarlE. VERY classless post."
--Fyrewood brought the house down with that one. Need I say more?
On my all-black suit: I know Monte81 challenged me to find a better suit from Value City but see this: http://massillonproud.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1400&highlight=entrenched
On me talking about suits at Linde's: "Crossdresser."
--Al. scored a first-round, one-post knockout with that one. I don't know what was in my head there but I paid for it and he let me hear from him at the tailgate!
I have so many memories and I could go on and on but I think everyone gets the message about how grateful I am to have been in Massillon! Enjoy them!
