11 might equal the number of tackles TigerCoach had his Sr. season!LOL or the number of beers I drink at the MP tailgate before we spank Middletown!!

Could 11 mean the poster lucky number? The amount of money it costs for 2 six packs of bud, or the number of dates he/she has had in the month of August.

Sorry TC--- I meant 11 average tackles a game!!LOL

All Seniors is correct!

Coaches picked them not the players!

2 Punters
5 RB's

Why not 11 captains?

Is it the offense or defense ??

IMHO, captain spots should be next to impossible to earn. That way the 3 or 4 guys that do have those spots , must work harder to get them, thus garnering even more respect from their team members.

You know I have to mess with my old coach every now and then. I watched a few games from the 80-89 seasons a few months back and I still remember you guys being animals from 79-83! That picture is from the 1988 Mass/Mck game my senior year--last game on grass.

I know we do not have 11 or so captains!! It is a privlage to be named captain and you just do not get it because you are a senior. I hope you guys were joking!

During the Mike Currence era, we had "squad leaders" for each position. For example, LB's, D-Line, DB's, O-Line, RB's, QB's, Receivers, etc. We had probably 10 squad leaders, but then had "game captains" that the coaching staff picked based on game performance and leadership in practice. Maybe that's what Coach Stacy is doing?

WRONG!

The captains are:

QB: Chris Willoughby

RB: KJ Herring

WR: Kevin Massey

TE: Josh Cross

OL: Blake Seidler, Shawn Arnold

DL: Steve Yoder, Brandon Grizzard

LB: Dorie Irvin

DB:Corey Hildreth, Kenny Pettis

I have no problem with this list. Also, it appears that TigerCoach may be onto something when he referred to squad leaders. This appears to be similar. I would have added Turner because of the sacrifices that he has made related to certain situations. Perhaps, he was left off because he is a Jr. I believe that all of the captains are Sr's although I could be wrong.

I think one of the criteria used was how hard they worked out in the off-season and during practice's. That doesn't always translate into being a starter.

Are there actually 11 captians??

That is just way to many captains. Imo it will look pretty stupid 11 players walking out for the coin toss.

I didn't say anything about mid-field. I said walking out for the coin toss.

I think he is talking about how all 5/7/11/12/103/whatever number of captains start to walk out towards the middle of the field and then stop about halfway. Then only 3 keep walking to the middle of the field for the actual cointoss, even though all of the captains come part of the way out.

So were the captains who were chosen for each game selected only from the 10 squad leaders or was everyone eligible?

Excerpt:

On Wednesday, Stacy and his coaching staff finally figured out in what direction they wanted to go in regards to the captains. Their verdict, 12 “position captains” which will draw one or, in a couple of cases, two players from each positional group to serve as team leaders. From that dozen, two players will be chosen each week to serve as the game captains.

“We just felt, as a coaching staff, we needed a core group of seniors who will be leaders for this team,” said Stacy, who said he got the idea from conversations he had with friends in the college coaching ranks. “We decided to get them from each position. It’s almost like a players’ council. I can talk to them about problems we’re having, and it can keep good lines of communications open. We just felt this group of seniors had to be leaders.”

The position captains are:

• Offensive line: Blake Seidler and Shawn Arnold

• Defensive line: Steve Yoder

• Linebacker: Dorie Irvin

• Defensive back: Corey Hildreth and Kenny Pettis

• Quarterback: Chris Willoughby

• Receivers: Kevin Massey

• Tight end: Josh Cross

• Running back: K.J. Herring

• Specialists: Steve Schott

• At large: Brandon Grizzard

“We just said as a staff, these 12 guys have to be our leaders,” Stacy said. “They have to lead the way on and off the field. We decided, why not have us as coaches choose the captains. We know who the leaders should be. I think the other reason for doing it this way is because we don’t have a lot of vocal leaders, but we do have a lot who lead by example.”

4 Captains are permitted to walk to the coin toss.. Look at '05, Our captains were James, Huffman, Gamble, Morris, and Dickerhoof. All would walk out but halfway 1 would stop and the other 4 would continue.
