Rick Ankiel homers again for St. Louis

Ankiel homered twice and drove in three runs, the latest power display by the former pitcher, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 on Saturday.

Ankiel, who scored three times, hit the first pitch he saw in the first and seventh innings to right field, giving him three home runs since he was called up from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Pretty amazing to comeback from his pitching problems switch to outfielder and get back to the major leagues again.

He will be the next one tested for steroids.

He went from phenom to a guy who couldn't find the plate almost overnight. It's good to see him make a comeback in some form.

I had the opportunity to coach Richard down here at Port St. lucie High School. His senior year he threw out a runner at home from St. Thomas Acquinas in Ft. Lauderdale at the plate to win the regional championship.

This is no fluke. He is a fantastic athlete. He is just as good in the field as he is at the plate and also at that time as a pitcher.

He was baseball's amateur athlete of year that year.
