I was at practice tonight and they looked like they had full pads on, though there was no hitting.

I believe according to the OHSAA, Each player must go through 5 Days without Contact with August 5th being a MANDATORY day of rest. The 5th Day is allowed FULL PADS, but NO CONTACT. After the 5th Day, they are allowed to do contact practices.

They didn't have pants on....they only had helmets, shoulder pads, and shorts.

So today will be full pads no hitting and I am guessing tomorrow will be full pads and full contact?????Wow, I don't remember it being so long back when I played but maybe it was....I just thought we had 1 day with helmets, 1 with helmets and shoulder pads, then full pads no contact, and then the fun began...I could be totally remembering that wrong....it don't matter....just so I get to see some hitting before Friday...esp if their 1st scrim is Sat...they have to get some contact in...

Sweet full contact today :) nothing better.....

I have to admit I loved the "aggression" that was used yesterday....I just hope to see more consistent intensity today....I am sure Coach Stacy would like to see more verbal leaders also...as he stated that a few times that I heard....he wants guys to take control of the huddle....I like what he is doing....Best quote I heard yesterday from Coach Stacy "Your giving me a headache".... :) He was pretty intense yesterday....good stuff.

Look, freshmen already are done with practice today. There was full pads, tackling, the whole shebang! They are on the same schedule as the JV and V, except for different practice times as of August.

 You had to be a little impressed with both Devoe and Georgio last n ight as well, as were we! The intensity level has definately been up from last season.

Somebody is in a grouchy mood. It was just a question. I was thinking down here we had a day of just helmets and then a day of full pads without contact (and not a day of helmet/shoulder pads/shorts). That is why I asked.

Hey, we've only had one argument lately.

So jv and varsity are still practicing in the evening? No changes from the heat?
I know in Charlotte all athletics after 5 pm have been cancelled. I don't really understand that. We are supposed to hit 100 today and tomorrow, so I would think mid-day practices would be cancelled as well. I know yesterday on my way home it was 89 still at almost 8 PM. It is just too hot to go out after about 10 AM.

They go in at around 3 and then back in the early evening for 2-a-days. Actually today it's not that bad here today. It's humid but not sunny with off and on light rain and a nice little breeze so far.

Kamd50---- I told you Devoe was a differant person in full gear.(mean kid in uniform and soft spoken off) I am ready for him to go off on some opponents. I am glad to GJ is focused and ready to go as well. Was everybody as intense or did those 2 just stand out more?

Monty, IMO, those 2 just stood out a little more. You could tell the heat was getting to a few of the players, concerning speed etc.

What has been impressive to us so far, along with the players' hard work, is the intensity of ALL of the coaches this year:rockon: As far as the comments made by our AD, we can only hope that the kids don't really get wind of it, or if they do, use it as fuel, cause they ain't gonna like it. What I don't get is why he has to go and make a public comment like that now right before the season is about to start? Was it really necessary for him to voice those sentiments out loud? It almost seems like he is deliberately trying to make people upset. Oh well, there's nothing to be gained by even thinking about it right now. We've got this season to focus on and don't need the distraction! :gotigers:

Since the comment was on the front page of the INDE rag I'm sure that they won't notice.

Best days are the "Incidental Contact" days. Pretty much means you crack each other and then act as if you did it by accident. You can't help it the first day in full pads!!

OK, now all you locals have to keep us out of town folks posted please... I think I speak for everyone when I say we're pumped up!
Side note: I got to see this years Mentor squad in the 7-7's and I'll try to hit a scrimmage and post what I see... The 7-7's are tough to evaluate of course just because they're 7-7's....

Mass6--happens every year!!! I remember a day when we were going over kickoff team and a young junior named Eddie Young was returning kicks on the scout team. he ran up and laid a little smack on me as to announce he was here with the tigers. I laughed it off but the next play I flew down like a hurricane and smacked him--he never ran kicks back in practice for the rest of season.

However--The best day for me was 1st on 1st because it shows what your teammates are actually bringing to the table. I always like to know what character of individuals I was fighting with me on Fridays. Alot of people did/do not like to practice hard and if you are out there with me I would make you bring it! ALot of players are good until the pads come on--- you have treehuggers and then you have :weightlift: and all I want to know who is playing for this:no1:

GO TIGERS!!!

You got that right Monte!!!! I used to love the first Oklahoma drill and the first team 1's on 1's like you said. You have to know who your brothers are that are willing to do what it takes, and that day usually shows you.

Drills--- 10 yard fight was my favorite! The only time I got to hit Stafford or Myricks! My soph year I loved to go up against Sr. Sean Murphy because he never took a play off at TE in practice

The only time we got to hit and take the RB's to the ground was in oklahoma the first day of hitting. Marc Cleveland and Julian Miller were only allowed to be "Thudded" up on. That all went out the window in Oklahoma, and under Shep, we went 5 on 5 Oklahoma and playing the safety position was always a blast. You could come free by reading the back and blow it up. The headaches were bad, but having all of your teammates lining the field as boundries, screaming for their respective side still gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

Exactly. Just as Coach Stacy said, "Everyone is going through it" so they better work through it harder and faster and be that step ahead come the start of the season.

mtownwr22

The Players have to weigh in and out before the first practice and after the 2nd practice. BTW Clark does weigh 171
