This play is pretty ingenious. What clever plays can you think of or have you seen?Didn't lee owens run a play where the tackles and guards lined up ten feet away from the center? It was in the south end zone?I believe.I also saw last year in the stubenville championship game where the whole offensive line did not move on the snap,This totally confused the defense.
Any thing that doesn't have to do with Massillon football is :offtopic: to me!

2003 Willard at Bellevue; right before Halftime, Willard is down 7, and around their own 35, and the QB throws a skip pass that lands into the Receivers hands. The Bellevue D froze thinking the Pass went incomplete, but the ball skipped off the ground behind the LOS. The aforementioned Receiver then heaves the ball downfield to a wide-open Receiver for a TD.
Much like this video, until you hear the whistle..........

I think the best play I've ever witnessed is the "statue of liberty" play that Boise St. ran against Oklahome in the Fiesta Bowl. Then , to add to that, the long hook & ladder play that scored the touchdown just before it. That was a very entertaining game.

Ha ha....that was funny.
Do you think they give the refs a heads up about the play so they won't blow the whistle?

I know Willard's coach at the time did.

I saw Lebanon beat Chardon in the '98 DII title game on a perfectly executed hook and ladder play with under a minute to go. I was sitting down close to the field in section 1, so the play was coming right at me. It was interesting to watch it develop.

The Tigers have been victims of the hook-and-ladder (or hook-and-lateral for the literalist) a few times over the years: The '93 McK game and the '05 playoff against Findlay, which was saved by a Brian Gamble tackle at the 3 yard line, come to mind.
That play that Owens ran was in '91 against Indianapolis North Central. Also, in the '91 playoff against Akron Ellet, Ellet had a snap or pitch go awry all the way back to their own endzone, when an Ellet back picked it up and ran about 106 yards for a TD. Unfortunately for them, one of their guys clipped one of ours well after the ballcarrier sped past him.
In the '82 title game against Moeller, Currence drew Moeller offsides on a 4th down play by having all the line stand up at once before they were set (I think- 25 years does play with one's memory!).

I don't know if they still do it, but Moeller's line does this every play.

No - This was something different- the Tigers literally all stood up at once.
On an aside- do you remember McKinley mocking Moeller's set in the last minute or so of the '81 title game?

No, I didn't see that game. I was in Atlanta making an official visit at Georgia Tech and having a good time.

On the flip side, Trenton Edgewood lost the 2003 DII title game on a botched hook-and-ladder that gave Avon Lake the ball on the Edgewood 1.

I was working at "O'neils" dept store at Mellett Mall (yup, I'm THAT old!) so one of my co-workers could see the game as her son was a McK player.
I would have LOVED to have seen this game, and McK getting a laugh on Moe at the end.

Back in the day when I was playing flag football for the boys club, the Raiders had a trick play. Their coach would start yelling at the reciever telling him he wasnt hustling. The coach would tell him to come off the field. The trick was for the reciver to stay in bounds but make it seem as if he was still being yelled at. We saw this play twice. They got us the first time.

I think Army or Navy ran this a few times in the 50s. They called it the "lonely end" play.
I've been thinking back and probably the most unusual play I ever saw with the Tigers was during the Maronto era. Once (in '87?), the QB took the snap, and instead of handing it off to a back, he dropped back and threw the ball.

Didn't Ironton lose a championship game going for a fake punt or something when they had the lead near the end of the game, like at their 10 yard line? I know their coach did something, but I just can't put it together.

What you saw actually occurred during practice.

HaHa,You guys are nuts! Remember when the st.edds guy intercepted the ball and ran the wrong way,Didnt he run into our end sone and one of the tigers took the ball from him and we scored?I think thats how it happened? I'll bet he still has nightmares.

I remember watching on tv several years ago a state championship football game (washington, maybe). The team with the ball was ahead by something like 3 points with only a few seconds left. I think it may have been 4th down, so the qb took the ball and ran backwards to run out the time. He ran into his own endzone which would just give the other team a safety as time expired. The problem was that he didn't run out of the endzone. He ran in, dropped the ball, and started celebrating as the clock was running out. The other team just picked the ball up....Touchdown...Game Over.
Yea Vic I remember that Ellet pLAY. I WAS THE ONE WHO GOT CLIPPED!

Ironton went for the 1st down with 4th and inches on their own 29 against Perkins in the 99 Div IV Title Game. I work in Perkins TWP, and from what I gather, Ironton was really concerned being in punt formation because a few times, Perkins nearly blocked the Punt. So, with just 6 inches needed for the 1st Down, they assumed they could get that, and then run the remaining 1 minute. They were stopped short, and PHS scored, I believe, on the very 1st play from scrimmage on a 29 yard pass.

Thats the play I was thinking about. Nobody in the stadium could believe that they were really going for it.
