Speaking of Obie, has anyone noticed Obie is missing? All this crap about block "M's" and leaping tigers. Where is Obie? He is our mascot, not some second rate Canadian tiger! Bring back Obie! Save Obie!!!!!!!!!

Obie will be at the Kickoff Rally on August 22. (As Banks stated) I don't recall Obie at any recent preseason games. But I know someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

The Obie logo is Massillon and always will be Massillon. I'm all for the secondary logos but our main logo should always be Obie! How mad would you guys be if another team used our Obie logo? Think about it...We would have a thread bitching about it and how it belongs to the people of Massillon. GO TIGERS! Welcome back Captain Jack!

Do you mean like Strawsburg or the team down by Dayton that used the same logo but turned the tiger into a beaver ?

BTW you are preaching to the choir.

I am not 100% sure but I was told that the football program pays for the right to use that tiger they are using.

As far as I know, usually the first public appearance of our live mascot is at the stadium on media day to have it's picture taken with the team and others; which is this Friday at 11 a.m. until............................lol

Where do they get Obie from?

I used to live right down the stree from the Huntsmans. They have a zoo over there. They used to decorate for Christmas and the manger scene was great with all the live animals.

You gotta to be kidding me .You don't know where Straburg is down below Navarre.

She was making fun of the spelling of Strawsburg and Freemont.

About five years ago I had to go to an opposing school to meet with the athletic director about scheduling. On the wall there was a drawing of Obie done by one of the schools students. It was about 8 feet by 6 feet, done in blue and gold. I asked him about the drawing and he confirmed that it was indeed Obie. So yes Obie is proudly displayed in blue and gold in Martin County High School in Stuart Florida.

Isnt that stealing since Obie is copyrighted by the Tiger Booster Club? Its like the people who complain about downloading music off the internet. Stealing is stealing. Has our school system recieved payment for the use of our logo as Hamilton recieved payment from us to use their logo? I think its time we reclaim our property and I nominate CarlE for the job. He takes BS from noone!

And yes Strawsburg has a gas station trimmed in brown in front of an old Dairy Mart on the main drag that had our Basketball Obie on the building on the front at the top near the gable and was removed when they installed their canopy over the pumps. But, they had an "S" on his chest where the usual "M" can be found. I haven't seen it since it was taken down however. I remember this made me angry that someone would use something that was our design and our logo that did not belong to them.

So great memory Banks!

It was a drawing on the wall. They received no profits.

Hey, history buffs!

Where did the original Obie drawing come from?

I've read before that Massillonians are quite sure.

Did Junie Studer first draw it?

Anyone know?

It was Long before Junie started drawing.
Obie showed up Paul Browns last year.
Someone from Tyson Roller Bearing drew it.

Banks, Your on fire! Your pretty good. Take a bow.

Here's one for ya. What logo was used at midfield during Spielman's days as a Tiger? This one may be too easy. I think I know, but im not certain.

lets get the word around to have the 1st game a sell out how about that??

WHS-TV had a part in ruining that with their game night rebroadcasts. However, it is a plus for people who are handicaped and not able to get out easily. I think there is nothing wrong with rebroadcasts on nights other than game nights. I bleive this could help a little with attendence. Anyways this subject is about Obie and I can't wait to meet him.

As someone mentioned it I do believe it was a paw print with an "M" in the middle of it at Mid-field.

Go Tigers!

You are absolutely right about the broadcasts killing the gates. Especially on bad weather nights when we would have great crowds anyway, it has become too easy to stay home.

As far as traditions, there are some that are SACRED! And OBIE is one!!!!!

What, you want to change our colors? What's next?

Well, if local people stay home because of the weather and they can watch it on TV we don't want them there anyway. They are NOT true Tiger fans. Bunch of puss-asses is what they are.

I always thought that the RADIO boardcast is what started the decline, up until the time it became LIVE it was always tape delayed and played in Saturday mornings followed by the coaches HOT SEAT.

I always thought that the RADIO boardcast is what started the decline, up until the time it became LIVE it was always tape delayed and played in Saturday mornings followed by the coaches HOT SEAT.

There was a lot of debate about whether or not to allow WTIG to carry the regular season games live. And this was in the early 90's. WHBC had already been doing this for many years.

Rather than recording the games on to a longer reel to reel or other device, they were recorded onto a cassette. Someone monitored it to quickly flip it over when the one side ran out (yes they only had one machine). Once, the tape ran out during a really big Tiger touchdown and the phone lines reportedly immediately lit up with angry callers.

I don't think live radio broadcasts affect things too much. Football, more so than baseball, is a visual sport. I do think the same-night TV broadcasts have had an impact on attendance.

The main reason for the games on delay was WTIG was a dawn to dusk station . For those too young to remember they had to be off the air at dusk, so there was no way of doing games live as they would be off the air around 6pm during football season.

Very true. I was referring to the period after which WTIG was granted permission to operate 24 hours a day.
