Saw two of the 7on7's this week. Just got home from the last. Wow, but I can't remember when I have seen that many ATHLETES on the field at one time. WOW! It will be very difficult to stop us with so many weapons. We have four solid running backs. All would start in any era. Some of them move to receiver at times, and we have a number of good receivers. And they have physically matured, they look like absolute beasts. Then add an animal like Yoder!? And we haven't talked about the linebackers! (Does mobile, agile, and hostile!) ring a bell. We get any kind of line play and it is going to be a very interesting season!

I know this is Massillon and the expectations are insane but we all have to remember it isnt August yet.
I went back into the archives from last year on a story Tiger Don wrote after the Fremont scrimmage here is an excerpt from that...
"As in the Perry scrimmage, Massillon demonstrated a high-power offense, one that can score from anywhere on the field. The level of skill players is the highest this writer has seen on a Massillon team since perhaps the 1970 squad. They can run it and pass it and they have a big offense line that gives all the protection Bobby Huth needs to make the machine work. With so many weapons on the field, it’s hard to imagine any team consistently keeping this group out of the end zone."
No offense to Tiger Don because I agreed with his pre-season assesment but after the season we look back and watched that team score less then 20 pts in 6 games and winning only 1 of those against Mck.
If the D cant stop teams it wont matter how many RB's or WR's we have.

I agree! But injuries took their toll last year. And that team had no leaders like the team the year before. That is a big question mark for this year. But you would have to agree, based just on athleticism, they are impressive!

..I'm gonna have to agree..
..let's not jump the gun yet with our assumptions..
...we still have a whole month to go.. and a lot can happen in a months time..
..when the pads go on is when we will truely see who's ready for Massillon Tiger Football..
... but I agree.. if we don't have a solid line.. those "athletes" won't get us very far...

I agree. But I suspect the defense is going to be better this season. We'll see. :ers:

No leaders? Why don't you go to Brian Gamble, Pooder, Andrew Dailey, and Emery Saunders and tell them that. It wasn't leadership last year, it was that they didn't have the O-LINE like they did the year before.

Don't forget Antonio Scassa.

From what i saw Wednesday we need someone to step up and be leaders right now! We are very talented but laid back alittle to much for me!

I'll never forget Scassa's big stop against McKinley last season!

How would you prioritize the following at this stage of the season?
1) The team should display more Vocal Leaders
2) The team should display more Leaders by example
3) The team should display good Team Chemistry
4) It is too early to focus on 1, 2 or 3 because of other concerns like teaching, coaching and evaluating talent.

Its never to early in establishing leaders. Leaders are established in the off-season.

It is never to early to find leaders---Leaders are always present in the weight room, conditioning, and on the streets. Football is a family and all families have established leaders. When I walked into my 1st training session as a tiger--(Todd Perdue, CJ Harris, Tom Gruno, Hoogy, etc,...) quickly a few people stood out as people to follow until it was my time to lead! Who's working the hardest, never complains, rallying the team when tired, etc,...LEADERS STAND OUR OUT EVERYDAY!

Scassa was intense but how old are you? Many, many tigers have played at very high levels of intensity but intesity does not always equate to individual success! I learned alot from Hoogy Pheister how to be intense and under control in games.Mental(4) to Physical(1)---thats the 80/20 rule that applies to everything from life to football but in Massillon football is life!!!
Scassa and Pooder will make an impact at Toledo---- coaches and senior players are already singling them out as future leaders of the Rockets program!

I don't know the age of that poster. Maybe they didn't see Spielman play. No one who saw him could ever question his intensity.

You know, I hate to say this... but last year's team towards the end was starting to find those "ways to win" like we had seen a year earlier... if not for one band snap and some great luck for whitmer during a monsoon, I don't think there are too many people disappointed in last year's team at all. Honestly, that snap was a killer nail... and that catch they made on 4th and forever in the corner of the endzone was amazing, and I would say most times it doesn't fall that way. Anyhow, no use crying over spilt milk, I am just saying that last year's team was not far off at all, and this year's team... it is gonna be a fun year.

I have to question this post for a second. Do you REALLY believe that we lost the Whitmer game because of luck? I do not call us not being able to stop the quarterback from running the ball for HUGE chunks of yardage luck on their part!

The differences I see in this team (07) and last years team (06) is the following:
D-line: 06 pretty good, 07 we have no clue
Linebacker: 06 ok, OLBs were better then the ILB, 07 going to be real good
DB: 06 IMHO strength of the D, 07 they could be very good again.
O-line: 06 do I need to say, 07 I think they’ll be better, but how much?
RB: 06 Good, 07 very good
WR: 06 IMO as a howl they were not that good, 07 we will have very good WR play
TE: 06 I thought we had pretty good TE play, 07 we will see the same.
QB: 06 Good QB, bad o-line, 07 I have no idea
Coach: 05 good because it was knew stuff, 06 not that good (5 yard outs every other play), 07 hope to see some different things with the back field and QB.
I believe this team "could" be better then the 05 team if the O AND D lines come together.

The 07 Tigers need to take every advantage of the skill and speed we have at certain positions and really open things up on offense. If this Clark kid is as fast as advertised let's use that, let's use Torrence everywhere, JT & Herring everywhere and then hit them with Jackson and Massey downfield.
On defense, let's protect the middle and use our speed to close everything down. We are going to have some linebackers this year to disrupt plays whenever they need to and enough speed in the secondary to cover anyone.
Don't forget Yoder in the middle and Irvin as well!
Add in the best kicker in the state and a veteran coaching staff - I think this could be a special season!
Go Tigers!
