Find the grade you would like to view and click public districts. Choose Stark and scroll down to find Massillon's scores. Also, be sure to click on community schools to look at the area charter schools.

Yes the community schools were eye-openers. Aren't those listed in Stark County for students with prior problems in other settings? Will we see something soon for grades 9-12?

It is not always the case, but many times they are students who had academic/discipline/attendance problems in public schools.

austinsm11: I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. How does Massillon compare with other area public schools?

It is kind of hard to compare. When looking at the OGT, it looks like Alliance and Canton City are the only districts worse than Massillon. You have to find schools that compare to Massillon's democraphics, however. It isn't fair to compare Massillon to Jackson or Lake, for example. I don't know what Stark school compares the most closely to Massillon (perhaps Alliance?). The best thing would be to try to get any other public school in Ohio that has the closest comparable demographics and I don't really know which districts that would be. It does look like scores were down from 06 to 07, but the same thing happened with Alliance and Canton City, so maybe it was a harder test.

It seems like social studies scores were low on the OAT. I'm curious as to why. Down here in North Carolina students are only tested in reading and math. There is a 4th and 7th grade writing test as well and 8th grade just started a science test this year.

Thanks for the info. I never could understand those damn results. I can only imagine what the tests are like.

Sign o' the times. Test scores get lower, arrest rates get higher.

Thank God I'm not gonna live to see too many more generations !!!

You have no idea. Some of the questions are ridiculous.
Testing down here is so crazy that we have to have volunteers come in the room with the teacher to make sure the teacher isn't cheating (since schools can earn bonuses based on test results). The math test is untimed, so we have kids literally spending all day on the test....much longer than the ACT or any Praxis teaching test.

The state may have made the test harder. Just last year they made the math curriculum harder AND raised the percent needed to pass. Next year they are doing the same for reading.

LOL. I wasn't talking about that part. Maybe it has to do with the parking ban?

Found a link on ODE to the school report card. It is from 05-06, but it does have a comparison with similiar districts. Massillon appears to be behind the average of similiar districts.
