It's about time they traded that bum. I gave up on the Tribe the night the Reds came back from 6 down in the 9th to win the game.

Maybe they need to make another movie about them, Major League, LOL. That seemed to make them start winning.
As for Wickman; they traded him which is fine, because he was probally done after this season. At least they got something, I guess? A 20 year-old single A catcher? They could've at least got a AAA player.

it is time for that stiff boone to be traded as well. I can't stand to watch him play 3rd without wanting to choke myself. warren 1st you need that indian with the black eye around it, like they had on the news in the 80's when they always lost. man watching them play is not fun anymore. the days of belle, lofton, thome, ramirez, baerga [sp?], and my favorite omar are in the deep past.:wall: :furious: :wtf: are they going to build a winner and SPEND MONEY. I would like to say great call on not signing howry. how can you get rid of a proven pen guy when it is so hard to find good relievers. you win with pitching and then you get rid of your two best pitchers howry/millwood. makes good sense to me, great upgrade in the offseason by signing a losing pitcher and hope he turns into cy young. maybe shapiro is the blonde lady in major league and will sell these bunch of losers!! were is willie mays hayes.:stars:

We started this season with such high hopes, even though it was obvious the front office had degraded the pitching staff. Skinflint Dolan is getting what he paid for.
It's just sad.

Wedge adds insult to injury last night by bringing Jason Davis back! How many times does that stiff have to prove that he is not, never has, and never will be, a major league-caliber pitcher?

I told you guys at the beginning of this year that the Tribe had no pitching and that you were going to be disappointed. I also predicted my Devil Rays would finish ahead of the Tribe, record-wise. Well, since they've chosen not to win since the All-Star break I'm not sure that is going to happen but I'm still not giving up on the bet yet.

"belle, lofton, thome, ramirez, baerga [sp?], and my favorite omar are in the deep past"........Now THOSE were the days! But don't forget the Alomars, Dennis Martinez, Charlie Nagy, Orel, Mesa.... We had season box seats back then and am I glad we did. Those were some super fun times! Who knows how long we will have to wait for the Tribe to return to their glory days:sad2:

Kamd - I agree with everything you say except for Mesa, who in my opinion, cost us the 1997 World Series and then acted like he couldn't care less.
Yes, Dolan either can't afford to run a MLB franchise or is too tight but we traded away TOO much pitching over the off season.
It is sad.

Teams are really looking at Hollandsworth and Westbrook. Hollandsworth is more likely to go because his $900-thousand salary is considered a bargain. Several teams are looking at Westbrook while the Indians say they want to exercise their club option on him. Will it be a retooling or a complete overhaul? We shall see. This from the Plain Dealer:
"The Indians have sold more than 1.8 million tickets. They did not pass that figure until Aug. 30 last year. The Tribe's attendance of 1.2 million to date represents a 14.9 percent increase from 2005."
Won't it be hard to justify a complete "fire sale" when attendance is up?

I don't specifically remember Mesa acting like that, W1st, but I will take your word for it. Speaking strictly in regards to being a player, I saw him come in and shut them down many a time as the closer and he was an asset to the team until he started getting into "personal" trouble. I liked young Julian Taveres (sp) back then also and Offenbaucher(sp) lol !

Oh no, he definitely did. I'll never forget it. We were staying at the Marriott Sawgrass in Jacksonville for a weekend of golf. I was at the hotel bar watching the game with some freaking loudmouth from Miami. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to knock him off the stool.
Anyway, we all know what happens and then I see Mesa and I get ALL pissed off about it. Funny though, the other guy got kicked out of the bar.

I believe that's what Omar is still so ticked about regarding Mesa.
He did pitch some fine relief ball through most of his career with the Tribe. Apparently he had no clue how hingry we were (are) for a World's Championship.

From SI.com:
" Some young Cleveland players believe that manager Eric Wedge is too regimented and are annoyed by his rules, which include wearing slacks to the ballpark. "The young players are not responding well,'' said one person familiar with the situation. But Indians GM Mark Shapiro said, "I can't blame him. I blame myself. That's the natural tendency, to look for a scapegoat. In this case, I don't think it's the manager."

Here's somewhat of a bright spot. Rookie Jeremy Sowers shut-down the Twins (8-game win streak) with a 4-hitter and only had the count at 3 balls once in the game. Could we finally have a solid ace, or just another guy getting traded once he hits his peak.
TxTiger
07-22-2006, 10:49 PM
A new MAJOR LEAGUE movie won't help. Maybe MINOR LEAGUE would be better. That is where all the talent gets called up and down (or not at all), then traded.
Also, I think Jason Davis is brought back up to get a lot more playing time...called auditioning for a trade. I think the Indians are going to try and get something for him. They will wait on Boone until closer to October. We should get something good for him then and Marte won't have to spend too long up in case he struggles bad.
GO SOWERS!!!!!!!
TxTiger
07-22-2006, 10:51 PM
Sowers will eventually be a really good second pitcher in the rotation. Most teams would use him 3rd. Indians will probably have him 4th next year.

I firmly believe that Marte is still in the minors at Buffalo for financial reasons only. From what I have read on other forums, if Marte gets called up before August 1st, he will be eligible for arbitration a year sooner than if he is called up after August 1st, due to the service time he already has in the majors. So it is to the Indians benefit financially and gain contract leverage in the future to keep Marte at Buffalo for another week or two.
It all comes down to economics for Larry Dolan. He way overpaid for the team, and simply is too financially strapped to keep up with the big boys of MLB. H*ll of a way to run a team.
MTown
07-24-2006, 12:47 PM
It really isn't all that suprising that this season has gone the way it has. When you lose guys like Coco, Howry, and Millwood the team was going to suffer. We got exactly what I expected in Byrd, Johnson, and Michaels. Losing Coco for Mota was just stupid. I didn't buy it then and it has proven to be a disaster.
It's time for Boone to sit in favor of Marte. Bring up Garko to play first. Quit screwing around with Victor...he is either a catcher or he is not. Bring up Franklin Guttierez to play outfield. Put Fausto Carmona in the closer role.
RE: Jason Davis...here was a guy who pitched decently in '03 and '04 as a starter. The problem he's run into is that the front office can't decide what they want him to do...starter? bullpen? closer? They've just messed his head up to the point where he is just worthless.
Bottom line is that Dolan is getting what he paid for. And we all suffer.

a guy from cleveland died
unfortunately, he went to hell
upon hearing of his arrival, satan stopped by to visit him
asked him if it was hot enough for the man, to which the man replied "not too bad, it feels like cleveland in june"
satan stomped off and turned the temperature of hell up 20degrees...goes back to check how the guy was doing
"hows that for hot?" he asked...the man replied "feels like cleveland in july"...
satan goes off and cranks the heat up another 20 degrees...the man is still okay...he says "feels like cleveland in august"
now, satan is really ticked off...he goes back and turns the thermostat down to where hell is frozen over
and
goes back to find the man jumping up and down yelling in delight "cleveland won the penant, cleveland won the penant"

The Diamondbacks initially showed interest in Westbrook. Then the Rangers inquired about him. But the Indians have balked (to this point) and the Rangers are reportedly now looking at the Phillies Jon Lieber. I don't know what the interest level in Boone is right now. And I'm sure there will be plenty of gamesmanship going on right up to the deadline.

Tonight's win for the Tribe was pretty darn exciting! I don't think I've ever seen Grady so pumped! It was sweet, as well as the 2 previous wins. Especially the shutout pitched by Westbrook.
