Outside of the McKinley game, what game or games are the most important or which one's are you looking forward to the most? Just curious...

Obviously, Mentor will be a huge measuring stick , and BIG revenge game.

Since we've only beaten Iggy once in our career, I think that goes without saying !:sunny:

From an outsider's POV, I think the back to back games against Mentor and Ignatius will be very good measuring sticks for the Tigers.

Both teams should feature high-powered offenses to test a potentially excellent Massillon defense.

Ignatius should have a strong defense as well, so that September 29th game should be a good one.

i think in the future, Hoover should be one of the prime games each year. Lake as well. Our non-league battles against Kent Roosevelt should always be a tizzy.

Put down the pipe TigerVic! I am thinking it will be the Solon game because it will be the first real test of the year.

For one of our last pre-Fed years, I'm a little worried about Middletown and Solon. We need to get off to a good start and these won't be like the relative cupcakes we played to start 2006.

Overall, I think revenge against Mentor, Iggy, and Warren should make for those to be the key games to aim for.

Of course, I'm really looking forward to putting these type of schedules behind us as we begin talking about who will be the favorites for the league title and wondering about the relative strengths and weaknesses of Glenoak and Jackson.

These 2007-type schedules are just not the Tigers' style anymore.

Does anyone know how many starters Mentor has coming back? I remember our JV game against them last year, 24 - 17 Tigers. It was a really good game.

Mentor because we owe them one and Iggy because we owe them around 9 losses!! Both games should be great ones to watch and I think we can win both games!

Didn't the Inde article say that not only their QB (Tanski) is back, but a good portion of their O-line?

I work with one of the coaches, I'll ask him later... It seems he told me before they get 13 starters back, and quite a few varsity lettermen back. I know they lost 2 OL,RB and one receiver on offense. But they get 5 out of the top 6 receivers back and have a couple young running backs that are supposed to be pretty good.... They had 105 kids on the team last year so I would think thay have plenty of kids to choose from...I do know they've had a good off season as far as workouts go they had a real high number of kids hitting it pretty hard... Coming off their big year last year the kids are pretty excited right now...

TigerVic,

Mentor does have Tanksi back and 3 quality WRs. They also have a good OL back in Brad Bednar.

However, they lost a lot on defense and their best WR to graduation. (Brandon James)

I will vote Mentor. I think it will show us what kind of team we have and get us noticed on the state level, when we WIN.

and the week 15 opponent.

The Solon people are really excited about playing us... Right now it's been hard to hate them. They're a quietly confident group so far. I know they get a bunch of people back from last year... They were really young....Definetly a game I want to stay on the schedule, not too much bigger than Massillon....
Gawd, I hate asking the Mentor people about what they have coming back, I always get such a smart **s remark. But I will find out some things if I can..
I do know they're LB's will be their strength which is why they're going back to the 3-4...I have relitives that live a few door down the the offensive co-ordinator.. They laugh at him because since he's retired he spends most of the day thinking of new plays contacting other schools (mostly colleges) talking offense. I've met him, neat guy, used to be a head coach at Painesville Riverside for about 15 years...Anyway, I agree with Mentor, Iggy, Warren, and maybe Solon because they will be our first real test. I just don't know about Middletown with that pay to play.. That's going to hurt them.

I have to correct myself, I don't think the Tigers will walk over Middletown or anything, i know they'll still be tough, just not as good as they could be, no disrespect intended towards their program...

Middletown will be a formidable foe. It's always a BIG game for the teams down South to play the Mighty Tigers. They feel as if they are representing all of southern Ohio.

They do... I like ours as well.. Solon, Normandy, Middletown are teams I would like to stay for awhile. Normandy is an interesting team.. They were sooooo bad for sooooo long, then they bring this new coach in and they really turned it around. He might be a coach we keep our eye on for the future...They were only good for about 1-2 wins a year before....Are we playing Mentor in the 9th week next year? I hope not but I thought I saw that...

Mentor is playing Moeller in week 5 next season and the Tigers in week 9---you are correct! A. Garfield will be added to the schedule as well.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, last years freshmen(Mentor) had a great team, I think they were undefeated, beating Iggy, Massillon, Ed's, Warren and someone else that's slipping my memory right now and that will be next years junior class...and it will be at their place and it will be a revenge game for them next year.

I hope it's an attempted revenge game for them in 2008 because that means it was a "W" for the Tigers this season. I'll make sure to bring earplugs to block out all of the profanity that was shouted by their fans.

LakecountyTiger,

Mentor's freshmen team was not undefeated last year. They lost to Ignatius twice (25-6 & 24-8)

I heard there was some good young talent on the Cardinals though.

Thanks, I just talked to their coach I work with and you are correct. He was saying something about a split squad though. I'm not sure if he meant they split squads fior those games, or just had like a "B" team that played smaller schools...

LakeCountyTiger
07-11-2007, 09:28 AM
OK, they lost two to Iggy, but they were split squads, an "A" and "B" team, but I imagine Iggy had their "B" team on the field as well..... his words not mine.. Of course, Iggy's "B" team is probably better than just about anyones "A" team..And they lost to Ed's even though they beat them in a scrimmage.. They pounded Massillon... his words not mine....So, maybe they're not as good as I thought they were but still a pretty good team...I think our freshmen team was hurt by injuries and inelgiblities if I remember correctly...
