I was at a wedding this weekend and happened to be sitting at the same table as an older gentleman. We got to talking and when he heard I was from Massillon, he started to talk about coming to Massillon to play the Tigers in 1946. He was from Dayton Chaminade. We played them the 7th game that year. He said that DC was unbeaten and unscored upon to that point and came into Tiger Stadium really confident. When they got into the stadium, the confidence started to wane as they looked around at the huge stadium and all the fans. When the Tigers took the field, he remembered thinking how much bigger the Tigers were. He told me that the first play from scrimmage, DC tried a running play and when the ball was snapped, our nose guard grabbed their center around the shoulder pads and threw him out of the way, throwing the back for a loss. That set the tone for the game and even though the score only ended up 35-12, he said it was far worse than that in terms of a physical beating. An interesting point was his coach was Fuzzy Faust and he talked about the coach's young son running around on the sidelines. Turns out the son was Gerry Faust.

Well unfortunately Faust would later get some payback. Cool story though.

I think that conversation gives proof and credibility to our State Poll Championships. Talk to the opponents who played us during those years.
We were bigger and tougher then most teams. We had a true Home Field advantage back then. We were THE PROGRAM of OHIO.
