I can't believe the same QB is back.

Tanski was tough. He had a strong arm but was also not afraid to pick it up and run.

He was good at scrambling, but the secret was the 2 guards. If they both return, they'll be tough. I thought they had BY FAR , the best guards in the state last year. What were his passing stats in that game ???

Found it !!
He did complete 11 of 18 passes, good for a TD, but for the most part, the Tigers kept the completions in front of them.
Only a shade over 100 yards on the completions. Dink and dunk.

With the weather that night, not bad.

We beat ourselves with turnovers and we owe them a butt kicking! I dont think their guards will have such an easy time with our ILB this season!!

monte,
no offense but you seem to have a lot of excuses for losing games. It's either turnovers, poor schemes, bad calls, etc.
Is it ever a case where the other team is just better?
Again, i mean no offense by that, but I can cite many instances where I thought my team should have won a game. However, sometimes you just have to give the other team credit. (Like in '05 when the Tigers beat Ignatius-- that was a great effort)

PDC,
No offense, but most anytime we play Iggy, we are not gonna be the better "team". It's usually that way for a smaller school against the bigger schools. Talent pool and all.
That being said, the " better team " doesn't always win. Stating a way/reason/strategy that could have won us a game, is not necessarily saying we SHOULD have won the game, or were the better team.
Heck, I'd rather just luckily win the game, better team or not. Over the years, we've beat our fair share of "better teams", and had our butts waxed when WE were the better team.
That's why they play the games. Not too many times in football, after the games over, do you say, " We had NO chance in that game! ".
Ususally, it's a breakdown of a handful of plays that COULD have made a difference.
Now the '06 Moeller game was just a massacre. We got KILLED.
We are really getting used to the "underdog" role, especially late in the playoffs. However, everytime you win these games, it makes it that much sweeter.
Good luck to the Wildcats this season !! :rockin:

I gave mentor credit for playing a turnover free game ans executing when needed in the red zone. We were up 7-6 late in the 3rd quarter and fumbled on the 5 yard line going in for a score. Our player made a mistake and they capitalized.
However OUR COACH admitted that in the Whittmer game he made some bad decisions and along with a few other games---Stacy said it and I just repeated and view what I see. Now Moeller just flat out whooped us last year and I will be the 1st to admit that as well as Iggy controled us on the ground to beat us! BTW--- execution, schemes, play calls along with players win games and if all is not right or something falls through then I call it how I see it! Did you watch the Mentor game? We controled the game until the fumble and it cost us the game. Whittmer---would you put a 1 leg DB(best player we had) supporting a cover 2 with their best WR knowing he cannot make up that much ground---NO you put the healthy guy to back up the corner---PERIOD!! No excuses just stating facts. Or pass on 1st and 10 on the opponents 23 yard line with 3 minutes in the game?--I wouldn't when we were averaging 6.3 yards a carry and just ripped them for 30+ yards on a delay.
NEVER ONCE DID I SAY AN OFFICIAL OR BAD CALL BEAT US----NOT MY STYLE!!

To kinda defend monte on this one, we made a TON of mistakes that game that could have changed the outcome. Mentor's O and D line were solid and that's where we struggled all game.
It's easier for you to say the better team won when Ignatius loses, because you constantly sandbag against your own talent. LOL...just kidding ya.

We knew heading into the season last year that playing a veteran Mentor squad the week before Ignatius AT Mentor would be a legitimate challenge. That being said, we still had our chances to win the game.
While Mentor did not overly impress me that night, they sure did in the semi-final game vs. McKinley. Mentor’s play in the fourth quarter, and their last drive in particular, of that game was exceptional. They really had had it “goin’ on”.

I don't know hardly much of anything about all this football stuff...
But isn't this where that old saying about "On any given day..." comes into play?
I mean like, once we find out that it wasn't our day, what's wrong with throwing out some reasons why not?

Also PDC, I'm sure you've noticed that losing gracefully is not one of our better traits.

We're never supposed to lose!

monte,
thanks for the honest response and I see what are saying. I did watch the replay of that Mentor game on TV, but I can't recall everything about it.
MTown,
Me sandbag? The Independent will be previewing Ignatius next week. We'll see how their preview matches up with mine.

I hope your comments aren't a veiled suggestion that last years LB's didn't do the job.. I got grilled on here for pointing out their flaws.

PDC's Ignatius preview...
"We don't have the athlete's anymore. No Tony G's, no Steve Kerr's. Our offensive line is small and weak. Our backs and receivers are slow. Our QB can't throw more than 20 yards downfield.
On Defense, our line averages 120lbs. Our linebackers are decent size but have yet to crack 5.0 seconds in the 40. And even though we have 600 kids in our football program, we really don't have anyone that can play DB.
You couple all of that with our killer schedule and I'll predict one of the worst Ignatius teams in history...we'll probably go 2-8."
Then they'll come out against us and look nothing like that report.

And, they won't mention a thing about their All-Ohio transfers from Toledo and Youngstown.

Right. That one transfer in the last 20 years (John Kerr) is still impacting the program.

MTown,
I didn't expect much from the Ignatius teams in 05 and 06. (especially 06)
However, please keep in mind that when I hear or read people refer to Ignatius as "loaded," I think of our teams from 88,89,92,93, & 95. I'm spoiled, no doubt about it. I reserve that term for teams on that level.

Nope because they did what they could and played to the best of their God given ability. However this years group is definitely---bigger, faster, and stronger.
ALL THE WAY IN 2007!

But, do they have the heart of the LB's last year? We need a combination of heart and talent.
Last year we had the heart but lacked the talent this year we have the talent but is the heart there?

Linebacker is definitely not an issue in 2007. The secondary is going to be nice. As long as some of our young Dline step and play hard with Yoder we will be a dominating defense.
