Should the Cavs do whatever it takes to add him to LeBrons team?
I think he would be a great addition to the team, but I'm not so sure the price tag would be affordable.

I agree. I don't think he is affordable.
Is Gibson the answer at point guard? Or should he be the shooting guard?

If I were the Cavs I would be less concern with per-year money and more concerned with the length of the contract. I'd pay top dollar for him RIGHT NOW, but we can't be saddled with long term contracts for a player who might be leaving his prime.
So, I would say sign him if the years are right.

I'd rather have Ray Allen of the Supersonics. He's supposedly available if they get Kevin Durant in the draft.

I did the math on this though, and I don't see us being able to aggressively go after somebody.
Varejao is in a FA year and so is Pavlovic.
We are already saddled with big money guys in Z and Hughes.
I would love Ray Allen, but can we sign our guys, AND add a big time FA as well? I believe that Gilbert will do what he has to do to add, but it will be tough to find enough money under the cap to get it all done.
Actually, if I had my choice, I'd go get Garnett!!!! But it might be too late, (and too big of a dream), for that. Give up Z, and Gooden, and be a threat to win the whole thing, instead of just the EAST.
New starting 5 would be :
Boobie PG
Hughes SG
Lebron SF
Garnett PF
Varejao C
Pavlovic off the bench as 6th man....
I know it reduces our bench, but this starting 5 is pretty formidable.........
Any thoughts......... ??

TC! Is Ray Allen a FA or would the Cavs need to trade for him? In my opinion anytime you can restructure contracts and secure the services of one of the best players, and top scorers in the league without giving up a player or a draft pick, that's the best way to go.
BTW! Chauncey is only 30. He has atleast 5 more productive years ahead of him if he's healthy.

Mo Peterson Raptors 6'8 GF age 29 $4,550,000.00 Solid player, good scorer

Ray Allen was a Free Agent last year and signed with Seattle, but reports on the radio say that he may be tradable. I would send them Z, Newble and sasha.

If the cavs can land Billups than you have to go for it. He is one of the best defending PG's and definitely can score and the Cavs need some outside shooting. I would not sign Sasha to get Billups anyday and Newble, Marshall, Pollard, Wesley and Jones can go which leaves the money. They can get 2 quality free agents and still sign some good bench players! I would also trade Z for Ray Allen and play VJ at center.
KG is untouchable unless he agrees to be traded and rumers say he wont go anywhere but LA!

On ESPN, they were talking of a potential trade of the Lakers getting KG for Kobe. The trade also had some other players involved from Indiana and Boston and some draft picks. It looks like it isn't going to work out.
I really like Snow, but is he worth that much?

Allen is a good player and I'd like to see him in a Cavs uniform. The problem is he's scheduled to make about $18.5 million in 2009-10. They're already saddled with Hughes large contract and obviously Lebron didn't come cheap. Billups would also be a great pickup but Detroit reportedly is going to do almost anything to Keep him there.

ESPN has reported Ira Newble and Damon Jones have asked to be traded.
From the Beacon:
"Sarunas Jasikevicius has made some back-channel overtures that he'd love to play for the Cavs next season after passing them up two years ago. He can become a free agent by opting out of his contract, worth $4 million."
Also from the Beacon:
"The Anderson Varejao contract situation is poised to be very interesting. He's a restricted free agent, meaning the Cavs can match any offer he receives. However, it is difficult to determine his value, and therefore it could be a drawn-out process.
First, he's not a starter and probably isn't going to be. Drew Gooden is more talented overall, and he'll be making $6.4 million next season. It's hard to fathom the Cavs will want to give Varejao, who made $945,000 this season, as much as or more than Gooden."
From Brian Windhorst's blog:
"I've gotten some e-mails because some people aren't understanding this (which is why you should read the story). The Cavs can and will kick in as much as $3 million in any deal. Wesley, Jones and Newble combined cap numbers are about about $9.4 million next season (add the 20 percent rule in trade and you get a little over $11 million in return value potential). Reduce the Wesley buyout plus the payment and hard cash due to cover the Cavs players is close to $4.6-$4.8 million depending on some things. Now, here's where I should point out that the Phoenix Suns love Drew Gooden, they spent all last summer trying to get him. Plus they really want to kill payroll and have been floating Shawn Marion's name. That's not a rumor, OK, that's just me thinking out loud. By the way, new Suns GM Steve Kerr and Danny Ferry are tight. "
Other rumored names for the Cavs include (Golden State Warriors) Jason Richardson, (Seattle SuperSonics) Rashard Lewis and (Portland Trailblazers) Zach Randolph. Certainly better than Earl Boykins.
Is the Mike Bibby talk officially dead?

cavs r gonna jump into the draft and pick up Acie Law because they need a point guard and he would be a upgrade from having larry hughes(who cant shoot) and E Snow who never shoots the ball at PG.
Also if the sonics would draft Durant that pretty much means that they r rebuliding for the future and they would want to get rid of cap room and trade away my man Ray Allen. The cavs would have a sign and trade and trade away Sasha Pavolivic, Damon Jones and David Wesley for him because they have way too many SG's. Then They will re-sign Anderson and they will be fine and they will then be able to take the next step and win the whole thing next year .

the only way we can trade hughes is if their is ateam that needs a slasher like hughes. hughes is not a shooter he is a slasher. he was the guy in washington tht went to the hole to get the easy buckets while gibert arenas, an outside shooter shot the rock from outside. If we can find an outside shooter then hughes can be used the way we were suppose to use him with the money tht danny ferry paid him to do. then we can stop talkin about how bad hughes is and talk about an All-Star season like he had the year before he went to the cavs

i would honestly take 3 roll player whos salaries match up to his. Just get some pieces for him and see what you can do with that. That would be the only way.

NO to Snow!
Mike Brown loves Snow's defense in crucial situations as well as his leadership. Plus--LJ loves him as well! I think the Cavs keep Eric Snow.
However if the chance arises to make any deal for Shawn Marion then they better jump at it for Gooden(he plays when he wants). Marion is a multiple all star player who can shoot the 3 ball, play great defense, and play the paint as well!
It would be nice to get Marion and Ray Allen in exchange for Hughes, Gooden, and some of the other bench warmers.

I really like Snow for those reasons as well....just not for 6 million dollars. Any way the Cavs could ask him to restructure his deal? I know this happens in some sports, just not sure if the NBA is one of them.

The draft was relatively uneventful, with the Celtics-Sonics trade being the biggest event. The highlight of the draft, Rachel Nichols. The lowlights, Yoachim Noah's wardrobe and Yi Jianlian's interview with Stuart Scott. I was surprised Daequan Cook went as high as he did but it was a good showing for the Buckeyes.

I don't get the Celtics at all. Allan is very good, but also getting older. How many good years does he, or Pierce, have left?
Once again the Spurs go after foreign players they don't need right now and have them keep developing in Europe until they need them. Most be nice to have that luxury.

I wish the Cavs could have worked a deal for Ray Allen, but they didn't have any high picks to trade. I would have given them Z, Sasha, and Newble for Allen. Don't know if the math works out with the salary cap, but I wanted a top shooter.

It would have made more sense for the Cavs who are ready to win now. Doesn't make much sense for the struggling Celtics, imo.

The Cavs did not have any leverage for most teams to bite. THe Celtics made the move because Pierce is forcing the deals because he said "get me some help or trade me" Ray Allen is help but iI think Pierce wanted some inside help more than another shooter.
KG still with the Wolves!! Man-- Atlanta can make some deals that could shake up the league. I also think if KG is not of the picture in LA then make the deal with Indiana for J. O'Neil to keep Kobe happy but you trade him for NOONE---PERIOD!!

From the NY Times:
"Yi’s agent, Dan Fegan, was upset with the Bucks and indicated that Chinese basketball officials, who have the final word on releasing Yi, might block Yi from going to the N.B.A. Fegan said that perhaps a trade could be possible. He and Chinese basketball officials wanted Yi to play in a city with a large Chinese population. But Bucks GM Larry Harris said one existed an hour away — Chicago. Also Harris’s father, Del, was the coach of the Chinese national team at the 2004 Athens Summer Games and spoke extensively to Harris about this exciting, athletic talent who can run, jump, block shots and make 3-pointers."
I can't stand when athletes who will be paid millions of dollars by a team who wants them decide that isn't good enough.
