Great read Tiger Don...
I remember that season vividly. It was amazing to watch Trav and Falando tear up the turf. I was sick with the flu that Saturday against McK when my close friend Trav ran his way into the record books. I missed the greatest game of his career and highschool football in general. I watched it live on tv with my mother with tears running down our faces as long run after long run took place.
Anyway...
My wife is not of Tiger "Blood" but you would never know it. She fits in well and loves the Tigers. She met Trav years ago but never got to see him play. If anyone has tape of that '91 McK game is it anyway posible we could watch it again. Shoot, I'll pop the popcorn and we can watch the best game ever together!
:drinkem: :thanx:

Anybody else have memories about that Saturday? Love to hear some stories...

The other great thing about that game is it was in the house that MASSILLON built! Face it, those visitors stands weren't built up that high originally for anyone but us. Anytime we win that big over there is great!!!!!

August 2008 CarlE and we will be there to hang out for sure!!

Travis is in Massillon for Darion's going away/graduation party so I will see him 2morrow when I get there!

91 Alum---- you can get tapes at the school if you have time to duplicate the tape or call my moms house and they will loan it to you.(same phone nimber for 40 years) The 1988 and 1991 mcKinley games are like classic gems in our family so it is many tapes floating around the family. We have the entire seasons of both years---mine is on DVD!!

Also you can call Junie Studer for the originals as well----they have alot of tapes that people wish they had in a collection.

Memories---- I had already left UC and was in Germany in the Army during the game but listened over the phone the entire game. At halftime we hung up and they called me back for the 2nd half. I missed the original but the phone play by play from Coach Utterback was classic!!!

K.J., J.T., and D. Torrence. Can anyone say (WishBone). I would love to see a little WishBone thrown in there somewhere! I mean, if i was a coach; that would be my dream! 3 GameBreakers in 1 backfield! Just seems unreal. And we're not talking about average runningbacks...We're talking about 3 outstanding 1st Stringers! Lol. Either one of them can "Take it to the house" on any giving play! I mean; who in the Hell would u key on? Just Mind Boggling! Wow! :weightlift:

Still have to have an O-Line no matter how good the backs are.

CarlE,
I seen you mentioned Orlando. Do you live in Orlando? Just wondering because thats where I live. Sorry I know kind of off topic. I was only 7 in 91 but I can still remember watching Travis run.

True- and you have to utilize it diversely so it's true deception (not "Brian Gamble or Christian Morgan up the middle" every play with all the other talent on the field like in '96 and '06)

i enjoyed Tiger Don's look back at the '91 squad. Such a great team with a bitter end (that handoff to McQuire when he had a truck-size hole to run through from Iggy's 20 and the 4th and long pass to the sideline 2 plays before their score). I still haven't gotten over that night.

I thoroughly enjoyed the McK game, of course. But my favorite game was the playoff game against Toledo St. John's- falling behind 21-7, going for it on 4th down on our own 20, and the O-line and McQuire and Ashcraft blowing down the doors late in the 3rd and through the 4th.

Wow, that is some great stuff right there! I am very optimistic that this 2007 squad of the Massillon Tigers will be giving us all some more terrific memories like those to reminisce about for years to come:weightlift:

That '91 team had one of the greatest offensive lines we've ever had. If you look back at those games we frequently lined up in 7 and even 8 man fronts.

And Vic, that 4th down against St. Johns was a 4th and 8 and we ran the ball. That took some serious stones to call it.

That was a heck of a comeback.

The 2 best comebacks I remember were the 05 Iggy game and the home playoff game when we were down 24-7 to Walsh Jesuit at the half and we came back to win 42-24. As always I stayed for the entire game but many non believers left at halftime. Slider, out!!!

I can see how the 91 game vs Ignatius would still bother a lot of Massillon fans. I really enjoyed watching Eric Wright and Travis Mcguire play. (Among others) The Tigers would have defeated Centerville the following week for the title IMO.

It reminds me a little of the 97 semi-final game of Ignatius vs Mckinley. The Wildcats dominated the game for 3.5 qtrs, but credit the pups for coming back. It still bothers me even though I think Mckinley was the better team.

If the Tigers' rushing attack in 07 is better then '91, wow.

However, it all starts up front. We all know that loaded skill positions and weak lines can cancel each other out. (As both Massillon and Ignatius have seen with recent teams)

Point well taken PDC...
IMO it will be in the hands of our "lines" to determine the success of this years squad.
I predict 3 1,000 yard rushers this season!!! (GOD WILLING!!!!)

GO TIGERS!!!
