Hello again Massillonians!,

I want to hear your thoughts on "booming cars", loud this or that going on in your communities. Stereo systems in older cars cost more than the car itself; but, travel around town just to disrupt on purpose. The nerve of these idiots to look at you like your the problem when they are the ones at fault. I have seen the advertisements on cars that install these booming systems, and wonder where are these kids getting the money to buy these things? Let me guess, drugs, payment plans? We even had a company in Warren called Rent and Roll for those spinner deals. I said had, hopefully they went out of business, because people did not keep with their payments and forced them to go out of business. I hope the same thing for these music-if you call it that- booming installers!!!! It is not just the regular or even the poor neighborhoods they assault, but the wealthy are soon to be attacked also. Love to hear your thoughts or stories on this issue, thanks,
Chad

Chad Don't forget to include the loud motorcycles.

Don't forget to include the loud motorcycles.

No sh!t. What is it about about these idiot Harley riders that keeps them from tuning up their bikes so they run well? What's with all the throttle blipping? Afraid that POS will stall out?

Of course, owning a Harley in the first place might be considered prima facie evidence of subnormal intelligence, so perhaps a little mechanical ineptitude is understandable. :tonguewave:

OW! That's quite a generalization coming from you.
Owning a Harley might very well be prima facie evidence of subnormal intelligence where you are, but where I am the large majority of Harley owners are not only professionals and business owners of above normal intelligence, but they understand the value of proper maintenance on their toys and spare no expense to keep them in tip top shape.
Perhaps the Harley owners you're familiar with not only lack the intelligence to maintain their Harleys properly, but lack the funds to do so as well.

Is this possible?

i.e. posers, eh?

Do they own the requisite t-shirts, bandanas, and all of the other accessories that are supposed to announce their renegade mindset to the world at large? Are they also claiming to be rugged invidualists - as soon as they can find a suitable group of people to do it with?

Perhaps the Harley owners you're familiar with not only lack the intelligence to maintain their Harleys properly, but lack the funds to do so as well.

Not unless you think that buying a screwdriver is an extravagent expense.

You are so, so wrong on this I don't know where to begin. TwbT is absolutely right. I made a goof out of myself a few years ago in Ft. Lauderdale. I was sitting in this outdoor cafe for happy hour in my suit when up pulls this Harley and this grey-haired guy with all the Harley garb gets out and sits down next to me. We start BS'ing and I'm acting like "what is motorcycle guy doing talking to me"? Well, one thing led to another and motorcycle guy proceeds to tell me that he is Director of Cancer Research for Broward County Medical Center.

When it happened a couple of years later again, I was prepared. Motorcycle guy number two had sold a 500 associate law firm in NYC and opened up a "smaller" 200 person firm in the Lauderdale area. Wan, you are WAY, WAY off on this one. Well, as TwbT says, at least where we live.

I think I'm begining to see a real difference here.

In my area the majority of the Harley owners not only seem to avoid the tacky T-shirts and bandanas as their chosen apparel, but most of them actually wear some pretty nice clothing that wouldn't indicate ownership of anything other than common sense when you see them. For the most part I don't see any "poser's" here!

Also, the large majority of them wear a helmet when they ride, which may very well seperate the group of people you're referring to as being of "subnormal intelligence", from the group of people I'm referring to as being of "above average intelligence". They seem to understand the value of having a piece of safety material between their ear hole and the pavement!

This topic is becoming quite interesting and revealing. I can't wait to read any further comments you may have about the differences between the two groups of people that seem to have just one thing in common. The desire to own a Harley!

Oh man I have a lot more stories. Those were just two of the better ones. And I'm SURE you've been to the place I was talking about. The Cafe' Blue Fish on Ft. Lauderdale Beach right at Sunrise and A1A. Right in the same cul-de-sac as the world famous Parrott Lounge. Ah, Ft. Lauderdale.

OW! I wasn't implying that the cost of a screwdriver was "extravagant". I was simply suggesting that since I don't encounter the "throttle blipping idiot Harley riders that don't tune up their bikes so they run well", the difference may very well be that the group I'm familiar with more than likely takes their bikes in to the local Harley shop for routine maintenence and tune ups, which can be costly.
BTW! Do the people you're referring to put a snow tire on their Harley's in the winter time, or do they bum a ride from their mom, freind, co-worker or take the bus? What I'm asking is, is their Harley there only mode of transportation? Because the folks I'm referring to have more than one vehicle and can afford to be without their toy for a week or two while it's being tuned up to "run well"!

OW, I don't do motorcycles, but this does seem to be an uncharacteristically sweeping generaliztion of Harley owners.

While there may be quite a few intelligent people riding Harleys out there, I agree with OW....I personally think you have to be an idiot to even buy a Harley in the first place....there are MUCH better bikes out there, that don't need constant maintainance or thousands of dollars of accessories to look nice.

There are a lot better, cheaper, more reliable bikes out there, but for some reason it's cool to own and ride a Harley....I don't get it. (other than maybe Harleys are an American made bike and hell even they aren't 100% American made)

Maybe an unfair generalization of the Harley owners throughout the USA, but not of the ones in the Massillon area.
95% of the ones riding around our town are flaming assholes.

When they sit at traffic lights they constantly have to rev their engines to keep from stalling out. Whether it's lack of maintenance or the plain fact that they are driving an American made piece of crap is debatable.

They have their lovely straight pipes that blast you out of bed at night when they roar by your house. They are a noise problem.

As for this whole poser thing...the only reason a rich man would buy a Harley is because it's cool.
They are junk, and everybody knows that you can spend less money and get a much better machine.

The noise issue does include loud-glass packing-motorcycles!:Let me share another story with you guys:
Just yesterday, my wife and I were at the BP Station filling up with 9 other patrons. Here comes this beat to death Oldsmobile 1980-something. You got it! Stereo system more expensive than the car itself. The car was ugly, no paint job, they stripped it! Anyway, the music was deafening. N-this, N-that, and kill all the B@#$%^& in the world from that noise he called music. What makes me laugh is: he is white. It is not a skin color issue, it is an ignorance issue, and some people are drawn to this crap of music.

After we leave the station and head home, another car gets behind us in line at a red light. Turns his music up, shakes my suv and his poor little neon barely hangs on to his nuts and bolts! I want to stop my car get out and tell these brainless fools where to go, or just chance it and run the red light to get away from the fool(s). Yes I am at fault in both cases if I acted on my thoughts, but this is the crap it drives you to thinking!!!!!!

The "Boomers" are in every pack of car groups traveling the roads throughout the city. You can not hear the police, fire, or ambulance sirens if there is an emergency!!! The Safety Directors need to be told this is a problem! Can't we take a liscence plate number down, date and time? If the police have to hear it, it will never be squashed now will it? This noise goes on too many places for the police to hear it, do we travel with a video camera in our cars to tape the incident, and tape their liscence plate especially? We gotta do something here folks!!!!!!! What will work in Massillon will work in Warren, and I am open to some brilliant ideas!!! Help!

There is no difference between any local community.. the problem exists here and in Warren..
1: The heart pounding boomheads that challenge you to even look at them.
2: the biker noise doesn't come from urban professional wanna bees; it comes from true bike assholes that have absolutely no respect for others. That is what this all comes down to. a total lack of respect for others. THEY DON'T CARE! The only way to deal with it is to pressure Massillon City Council. Create a group of concerned citizens and approach council during their meeting. If there is pressure; it will get taken care of. I'm ready to form this committee.. if anyone is with me on this; let me know.

I agree, and I as well have already done the same with Warren City Council. Do not I repeat "Do Not" go to council alone and speak. Do speak with about 10 or more people on the same subject, and if you can bring more people with you, just the show of concerned citizens will definitely help! I know it sounds silly at first glance that the Vatican passed a "10 Commandments" for drivers around the world, but step back and look closer, it may not be a bad idea. It even slams the use of motorcycles! They say drivers in Texas are more considerate because no one knows how is carrying a concealed weapon or not, so it makes the majority act a little nicer on the road. For the rest of us in other states outside Texas, we need to be courteous, but only if others are courteous. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you"-a relation to the new "10 Commandments for driving"!:sunny:

As for moving to Massillon as stated above, the thought had crossed my mind!
My son Zachary, is a fast one, and I joke around now and say he has heart, and runs on a nuclear reactor, because he just does not get tired easy! He is playing T-ball right now, and goes after the ball even it is headed elsewhere, so he is a runner. Quick! The coach from the next league up was asking me his age-5. One more year in T-ball and Zack may be his. We practice a lot, and he loves sports. Will he get into football? I hope so! We will definitely be at the Harding-Massillon game this year in Massillon! We may check things out!

Browning Bushman are my attorneys in Houston - very good ones.

City Council is probably incapable of intelligently discussing the noise problem and arriving at a reasonable solution. They're still dicking around with a traffic light at Grosvenor and Lincolnway, parking in the front yard, the waste water treatment plant odor, whether or not to sue Sherwin Williams for lead in paint (even though SW hasn't had lead in their their paint since World War 2), scheduling fundraising events when they should be at council meetings, and rewriting residency laws to permit city firefighters to commute from Las Vegas.

Nice post there Mr. Tucker.
It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

If you folks have time, you should read this in it's entirety.
It will give you some idea of how our small town politics get in the way.
