View Full Version : zwick signs?
Did anyone here about Massillon's Justin Zwick signing with the Carolina Panthers? I heard that he did this weekend from a reliable source.

Would be almost impossible. With 2 proven QB´s on the roster, the kid from Northwestern, and another rookie, I doubt that there is ANY QB money left. Carolina needs another QB like they need a whole in the head !!
What happened to the Indy stint ???

From an article in The Columbus Dispatch a month ago:
...The Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League added former Ohio State quarterback Justin Zwick to their "negotiating list" this week, along with East Carolina quarterback Patrick Pinkney and Notre Dame running back Darius Walker....
Zwick worked out at the Indianapolis Colts' rookie camp last weekend but went unsigned.

I saw that the Panthers did indeed sign Zwick. At least that's what the NFL Network said.

He did, but with Jake Del Homey, David Carr and Brett Basanez (NW) already on the roster it's going to be difficult for him to make the team.
The best thing that can happen for him if he doesn't make the team would be to impress his coaches enough to shop him around to other teams as a free agent, or for him to play well enough in any pre-season action he gets in to with the hope that he gets noticed by other teams.
I wish him the very best!

The three QB's named aren't exactly world beaters. Del Homme has had one good year that I can think of. Carr, didn't have an O-line, so nobody knows how he'll do and the guy from NW is so-so. Zwick has a chance to opens some eyes. He just needs to get into a pre-season game and go from there. Good Luck!

Not many NFL teams have 3 QB's on their rosters that are "world beaters", but then again, not many have a QB that has taken his team to a Super Bowl, A guy with huge potential that was taken #1 over all by a bad team with a college quality offensive line, and an athletic college QB that's in the mold of a "Drew Brees" type QB that hasn't gotten his opportunity yet either.
Also, the Panthers will compete for their divisional championship this year and might very well go deep into the playoffs with the talent they have. That's why I think he's a long shot at best to make the Panthers since they already have two QB's with a lot of NFL experience on their roster.
Like I said, I wish Justin the very best and would really like to see him get his chance.

Hell, send him down here to Tampa. Typical Gruden we're only going to bring about 103,000 QBs into camp. What's one more?
Go to the following web site to see more on Zwick.

The call came out of the blue for Justin Zwick. Of course, the former Massillon Tiger and Ohio State Buckeye isn’t going to complain, mind you.
A week ago at this time, Zwick was uncertain what his future held. But after a phone call from his agent last Tuesday, he now knows what his immediate future will be – that as a quarterback for the Carolina Panthers

There was a nice article about Justin in the Akron Beacon Journal this morning. I don't have time to retrieve it, maybe someone can post it.

The "What-ifs" game must be mentally torturous for Justin. I wish him all the best!

It is what it is. As a fifth QB, he obviously realizes it's a longshot. But the key is to have a good attitude, get some reps and hope to latch on with someone. A team could suffer a freak injury and need a backup added to the roster. He's going about it the right way.
