Man, it looks like that QB can light it up. I'm concerned now for the D.

It doesn't work for me either. I watched the entire game Friday night anyhow.

Here's what I saw,

O:
They run multiple formations out of the Wing-T Offense. Their QB is big and strong. When he ran the option he had tunnel vision - he never pitched-out, Our defense will almost never have to worry about him optioning to pass. But, he is big and will run over our smaller linebackers if they don't get the right pursuit angle and WRAP him (Darn-it!). As for his passing - his numbers indicate he was better than he actually is. He has horrible mechanics and IF the defense can get ANY pressure on him, his mechanics get worse. Most of his yards and completions against Mountain View came courtesy of MV's complete breakdown in coverages. MV sacked him 4 or 5 times - he cannot throw under any kind of pressure at all. He telegraphs and has this quirky wind-up and happy feet.

Their running back Simms will make tacklers miss and is strong - when MV failed to wrap him, he ran right through them.

The WR Taylor is overrated (and full of himself) - he did not get past his defender all night. Their other receiver (#10) is probably better.

D:
St X-type speed at the linebacking position, but not on the line. The D swarms to the ball and they WRAP when they hit. They run variations out of the 4-3. Always at least 4 down. They shift into a 5-2 or even a Bear Defense and also will show nickel and dime packages and are always blitzing a LB or DB. Having said that, MV didn't help show any weakness in the D because they usually killed their own drives with penalties at key times - they'd get a good run on first down or get a few first downs and then go backwards with penalties or sacks. MV does not have a passing game - it was one-dimensional - it's hard to say what a decent passing game will do against Hamilton.

Hamilton started at least 6 drives inside or around the 50 yard line in the second half and only managed two unimpressive TD drives (one was late when the MV defense was wilting in the 100 degree heat). Hamilton's only first half score came on the first play of the game, when they came out with no backs, had everyone and the kitchen sink go out for a pass and MV looked like the Keystone Cops in coverage. Simms was 30 yards beyond his defender and caught an end-over-end pass that hit him in the forearms (aka Westover to Sullivan vs Mck '72).

great scouting report, but I too wonder how good they actually are.. the real
question is not how good Hamilton was but, how their competition was..what was the story on MV,, were they a supposed power team or a 'walk over me' team',, did Hamilton do that well, or was MV just not a competitor.. Kinda like us and NP.. nobody can get a true feel.. at least not yet..

Thanks LTFT!

I'll see one more Hamilton game on Sept 8th against Paradise Valley. Unfortunately, it should not be much of a contest for Hamilton, we'll see how much they "show" on offense.

Also, one thing they ran on offense was an unbalanced line. A few times the QB would run the option to the week side of the line which was the strong side of the field on those plays. MV did not defend it well, and I was surprised not to see it more. We'll see what they do if PV keys on that, how the QB options in those situations.

Voice,

MV won a few Big School State Championships a few years back (one of them against Hamilton). They were down last year (5-5). MV is supposed to be better than they were last year -I don't know from my perspective?

MV gave a gutsy performance, especially on D. They just ran out of gas in the 4thQ. MV's DB who was covering Taylor did an excellent job was step-in-step with him on one play and picked a poorly thrown pass. Again, most of Hamilton's pass yardage was on the first play of the game (around 50 yards due to blown coverage) and on a two-minute drive at the end of the first half (due to a pitiful "prevent" defense).

Comparison? The level of play was nowhere near what I saw in the Tiger vs. St Ed's and vs St X last year EXCEPT Hamilton seemed really comfortable with all their different looks on D and that the LB's and DB's do fly to the ball (similar to X - not as good as St X though).

IMO Hamilton's offensive performance was no better than "fair" against a little better than average team (MV probably wouldn't make the playoffs in D1 in Ohio this year). It was not an impressive win. To give both teams credit - it's August in Arizona - IT'S HOT! One time, MV's QB was puking in the huddle, calling a play and still ran the play (he was still puking coming up to the line!):puke:

Chandler Hamilton opened their season last Friday by playing Mesa Red Mountain. They have not played Mountain View yet. Mesa Red Mountain
Has won two large school football state championships in the last decade.
They are a fairly new school. This year they are not rated in the top 5 high
school teams in Az but they are probably in the top 20.Mesa Mountain View
is presently rated in the top 5 teams in AZ.

RRanger,
Did you get permission to get on the internet today? Shouldn't you be studying your Language Arts right now?

Yeah, Colin Parker had surgery last Friday for a torn ACL - I saw him at the game in a wheelchair. That's a big loss for Hamilton.

And hey RR - ask that dude, whomever your friend is there at Hamilton, how hard you gotta hit(clean hit) somebody to dislocate his frickin' hip!! He should start watching a little more film of Gamble.

Gamble doesn't need any of us to speak here on his behalf - his play on the field will speak for itself.

Mr Whoopee proved to be a pretty decent scout, backed by the following article:

http://hsarizona.scout.com/2/561082.html

Of course, Hamilton will improve over the next few games (they should hope), but how much??

As it stands right now - Massillon beats them by 2-3 TDs

Stop Gamble ? Once you do that, KJ sweeps out for a thirty yard gain followed by a forty yard TD pass .. Basically, defensive coordinators will have to pick their poison when it comes to the Tiger offense..and ya all know, we have alot of poison to hand out..

Here is what the scout.com writer put in the last paragraph pretaining to the Huskies season
Jake Rahorn:
"Yes, Hamilton got it done tonight. They chalked up a tally in the win column. The question is, did they really? This kind of play will not get them close to a win against Massilion in Ohio. As other people would agree, maybe they need to focus on winning in Arizona this year, after tonight, it seems sleep will not come as easy for this chandler school, and either will the wins."

Even the local Arizona writers are not giving them a chance in this game! We win big in the Herbie.

Continued chest beating by some of our posters does NOT convey the best attitude toward making a big victory over Hamilton happen! Talk, my friends, is cheap. Right now our players need to hear what they need to work on, not be showered with false praise.

MY message to the player, coaches, fans and the world is that it will take our ‘A game’ to come away with a victory over Hamilton! Practice hard, take the extra conditioning and accept the coaching points EVERY day. TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED!

To BE the man you have to BEAT the man.

Go Tigers! One game at a time. Whack Woodson! :trophy:

The players know what needs to be worked on to get back to the title game and win it this year. Stacey and the staff have been tweeking with the "D" and we will show vast improvement from the first game. No chest bumping here I talk to my brother and other players all the time about not reading the paper or rankings and just play there heart out. All we showed last week was a base scheme that a midget league team could gain a few yards on-- dont worry these kids rise up when they have to! I been watching them since the boy's club and they are true tigers that will bring it every game.

I would rather hear talk such as we heard leading up to the Elder game last year.

Everyone talks about team problems, who should play, cocky team pictures and everything else in these forms with opinions and comments that are sometimes liked and some not liked. I posted a comment from a reporter and stated my opinion- like it or not. You are supposed to be confident and cocky as a football player to be on top. You are supposed to look at every opponant as a weaker team and dominate them as such. I dont know if it is just the ATHLETE in me, my studying of the teams we play, or the fact that I like our teams chances against any of the elite programs in the country. We cannot overlook any opponant but we should not give them credit for nothing!! Coach Stacey and staff have these kids knowing they can beat any team they play and they will bring there "A" game period! Some players felt like Canada, Woodson, C. Western Hills dont even belong on the field with them even if they gain a few yards! If you want to be considered an elite team we have to play all the top squads every week. The kids were bored by the end of the 1st quarter last week and you cant improve on nothing without a measuring stick. If you guys think Woodson or Hamilton is the measuring stick then we dont have the team we think we got.

chumly

Your right Monte81...

We are fans, not players, and it's great that we can talk about any other team we are playing this year, or teams we have played or aren't even playing. Our talk about another team is just talk only! I think what I'm saying has been said in a million time at MP.

We can hype it up, talk trash (at the moderators discretion) and yackity-yack all we want here. If we were actual players on the team that would be a different story. If players from other teams or our players come on here and read our posts and give much credence to them, they do it for their own benefit or peril depending who they are and how they handle it. But most of us are freakin' football fans, hasbeens or wannabees. We can talk about any team at any time within the forum rules. Dang-it, if we can't stir it up with Mck fans, or whoever else and whenever what's the use? Michigan and Ohio State fans are wingin' BS at each other 24/7/365. That clearly doesn't affect those teams performance in other games.

I know that this year's Massillon Tigers are focused on getting back to the State Championship and winning it! There should be no doubt that they are focused day to day and fine tuning a well-oiled, V-12 twin-turbo machine that will take one game and win one game at a time.

Our talk here has nothing to do with their preparation for the team they are playing each week, so let's have fun and be crazy as we want as fans, but keep it all in the proper perspective. It's a game! (well, it's a way of life in Massillon).

Now, if the moderators on this site allow me, I AM going to post about how hard Gamble hits. He doesn't have to read his own press clipping to know how hard he hits either. He hurt a guy pretty bad last year with a clean hit and nobody felt worse about the outcome than Gamble, but that's the game of football. AND, if Hamilton players happen to be coming on here and read about him, then I want those receivers to have it in their minds that Gamble is lurking out there on the field - if it leads to a few dropped passes - more power to us!

I'm sure the coaches and players appreciate the concern and advice of fans to "bring our A game," be focused, whatever.

I believe, for the most part that was shown to be taken care of last year and is carrying into this year. But, realistically if we have to give such advice from an internet forum and the coaches and team needs such advice or encouragement from whomever on the internet in order to succeed - the Massillon Tigers are in BIGTIME trouble! No doubt, the encouragement is appreciated, but I think that Stacy and his staff have the "focus" thing covered, thank you.

We all have different and mutual agendas here, but can you imagine MP if some jokester from another team came on here and ruffled our feathers and we responded by telling them, "sorry, we can't pound our chest here at MP, because, well, it'll hurt the "focus" of the team." LMAO
