I thought that the ringing bell for the away team on 3rd down conversations was really classless (epsecially against a weaker team) was wondering what we could do to make sure that goes away, cause really aren't we over the juvenile behavior?

Who cares its football... I liked it......... It adds more intensity....... and also puts some pressure on the other team........I'm sure other schools do it to

I thought it was great. Its all part of things you have to deal with when on the road. Remember the ambulance perry brought to our stadium, I thought it was cool and I also would have like to blow it up!

Do you also want to cancel the fireworks after we score? Maybe we should no longer cheer when the other team has the ball?

All part of the "HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE" !! We sacrifice a lot , for our home games. A hostile environment is a mental edge !! :rockin:

I thought the bell was fine. ( I wondered how long it would take for someone to post on here about it!)

I did hear other comments in the stands on the negative side. Sounds like a 50/50 agreement/disagreement on it.

I agree with Tiger2009. It's friggin football. If you don't like stuff like that, maybe you should go to an opera.

I think it was fine, however the timing of it was rather odd. Almost 10 seconds before the play clock ran out, then it would cut off abruptly if it started too late.

i think we will all like it in the proper situation. if it's a 3rd and 5 for st. ignatius at home later this season, big crowd, close game, that bell is sweet!!!
i agree, the timing was not always good however.

not as loud as it should be.

I thought the bell was terrible and I hope they don,t do it the rest of the year! This is a football game, not a church service. I have been watching football for a long time and have never seen any bell ringing at other games and the players on the other team couldn,t care less about it.They are playing football, not bell ringing. The only good bell is the victory bell that we get when we beat Canton McKinley ! GO TIGERS

The last time i was at an Ohio State game I never heard a bell ring on third down. The same goes for the bengal games.

It is classless. we. have genuine home field attractions that are full of class and very efective.

I guess in your "perfect little politically correct world" then using fireworks after scores is classless,,using the black tunnel is classless,,,running through the hoop is classless,,,playing Eye of the Tiger before the game is classless,,,Walt saying "Here's the Tigers" is classless...Coach Stacy running out on the field ahead of his team and pumping his fist is classless...The band playing different songs during the game is classless...Fans standing up and chanting "Defense" or "GO" is classless...After the game the fans chanting "We are Massillon" is classless...

It is people like you that drive me insane, that is why it is called home field advantage you use things that you have at your home field to your teams ADVANTAGE. In a couple weeks I want you to watch a college game on Saturday and any NFL game on Sunday and then come back on here and tell us how many times you heard different songs being played to pump up the home team/fans. I can guarantee you will hear it at each and every game you watch. I hope during the St Ig game that Hells Bells is turned up so loud on 3rd downs that you can hear it downtown!!! :rockin:

I couldn't agree more tiger#22. Why don't we just remove the seats, take down the scoreboard (so when we're beating a team up, we don't constantly remind them of the score), cut the fireworks, and have the band play some mozart.

Gimme a break. It's not classless. It's not like we're telling the other team they suck. I remember this whole argument when they used to play "we will rock you". Don't want to offend anyone in this overly prissy PC world we live in.

Like I said previously: IT'S FOOTBALL! You know what else I think we should do is paint the opposing teams locker room pink and pump subliminal messages in. Anything (big or small) within the rules to try and give the home team an advantage, I'm all for.

Nothing wrong with the Bell.
I did think that they played it a couple of times when the opposing QB was under center. that may not be kosher. It is like when we complain about an opponents band playing was our QB is calling the signals.
But IMO play that BELL LOUD.
I agree when ST. Iggy comes to town, play HELLS BELLS as loud as it will go.

The last time i was at an Ohio State game I never heard a bell ring on third down.

The Buckeyes come out of the south endzone to AC/DC's "Hells Bells" prior to pregame warmups.

They don't sound the bells on every third down at the Shoe. I remember it being done when the game was close, when the defense needs a pick-me-up, or the crowd had quieted down. I think they also have a cool scoreboard animation of a bell ringing to go along with the music.

I always thought it was cool when they played Ted Nugents "Stranglehold" prior to a Mike Nugent kickoff, too.

This "pc society" we are living in anymore really sucks, I cant for the life of me understand why people get upset at something that is supposed to be an advantage,,,playing at your own HOME stadium,,with your own fans to cheer you on among other home field advantages. It doesnt diminish the class at all of Massillon if there is music or other things played over the speakers to pump up the fans and team. If the chant of "Defense" gets cranked up on Saturday night I dont want any of you "pc" fans involved for fear that it might make Woodson think we are classless.

I hope this isnt going to sway the Idea of the Bell,I think its a good idea:obiefanfire: I think a lot of people here cant think outside the box and ned to really think about what CHANGE can do.It doesnt seem classless it just adds to the greatest show.People from other teams are gonna hear about the BELL and know its gonna be harder to gert that first down. :MrT:

How well our defense plays on third down will determine if they get a first down ,not some bell ringing. If bell ringing stopped a team from getting a fist down, then we should ring it on every play. Give me a break. GO TIGERS

In a big game, such as Iggy, and it is 4th quarter, and game on the line, I am all for it. We shouldn't even hear the bell over all the screaming.
But when you are playing a hockey team, and have a 50 point lead, then it is truely classless.

The bell came off hokey to me.

The DE-FENSE/ DE-FENSE chant is a 3rd down staple at Massillon. We didn't have to use it last week, but I would hope the bell wouln't interfere with crowd participation.

scott

Scott,

I'm very sorry that you feel that way. I liked the ringing of that bell. It urges the defense to make a stand to force a fourth down. You have to understand that Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, Home of the Massillon Tigers is a tough place to play at and it will be for anyone coming down Lincoln Way East.

What...if Massillon's defense is tiring late with a 34-20 lead and it's third down, are you going to not ring that bell to urge the defense to hold the visiting minions? Are you going to tell Massillon fans not to get loud and create a delay of game penalty (their fans know how to do this...I've seen it before)?

If anything, I am all for it. Whatever it takes to urge a team, I am all for it. Anybody who can say that ringing a bell on third down is classless are not as fundamentally sound about crowds as I would think they should be.

When your on the field and focused on the game, you never hear those things anyways. It's more for the fans than the players.

All I can say to this thread is...wow. It's a bell ringing on 3rd down. It only happened a few times during the course of the game. Is it really that big of a deal? I've been to at least 3 Ohio State games every year for the past 4 years they play the bell on 3rd down. Is Ohio State classless? Sound effects that are used in certain situations are meant to enhance the atmosphere and help to create a home field advantage. Come on.

MTown,

As much heat as you put on me...this is one I can back your stance on! Ohio State...this is one time I'll give you the edge here...the Buckeyes are not classless if they use something to give the crowd an edge!

Heck, if there was a picture of Jim Tressel yelling on the big screen "SCREW MICHIGAN AND HOLD THEM RIGHT HERE," I can't object that because again, it's like the third-down bell and I have no complaints...it's part of the game and if no one likes it, then don't play the game!!!

P.S. Check your PM's here.........

I agree with the posts that say it's an atmosphere thing - more for the fans than anything. It's just another effect meant to add flavor to the game. I chuckled when I heard it, and frankly I kinda liked it. I certainly didn't find it offensive. I don't see it any differently than the Darth Vader march that numerous teams have been playing in similar situations.
