Does any one have new pictures of the new turf? What are the end zones going to look like. Is there a logo at mid field?

This is only a guess but maybe it's the crumb rubber they work into the field turf.

I have heard zero talk about it being used for soccer. It surely would have been mentioned by now by the various people involved or the media. Once again I will assume the company listed the surface COULD be viable for soccer. But I doubt that it will be used for that.

Why would any of you care if it was used for the WHS soccer team as long as it didn't interfere with football? They are, afterall, students , sons and daughters, and athletes that represent Massillon.

Why talk about sharing the new indoor facilities with other schools, even our arch rivals, and then be selfish towards our own children like that?

Why would anyone think the field would be used for soccer. It's not long enough and it's not wide enough. Besides, the soccer team already has a field inside the track next to the softball field and they much prefer grass to soccer anyway.

Where do these ideas come from?!!

There were conversations early on when the new turf was being discussed.
The soccer coaches asked if it was feasible.

As I understand it, everyone decided that it was not, and the matter was dropped.

Maybe the Field Turf people were in on some of the discussions, and were not in the loop after that.

oh come on, someone else say it too. You know when you went to Parma and saw all those extra lines cluttering up the field (the soccer markings) you thought it looked cluttered and took away from the field and atmosphere. I think the football fields that have the soccer markings all over them look cheap for lack of a better word. No offense to soccer or anything, because a soccer field looks much better without football markings covering it too. The only time a dual use field looks cool is when you are watching TV and a football team is playing on a dual use baseball field.

The same thing holds true on fields that have NFL, college and high school hash marks (hint Fawcett Stadium). It is way too cluttered. Let's hope that they don't put college hash marks on PBTS. And if they do, only non-permanent ones.

While I agree that it does clutter things up a bit, it shouldn't be a reason to keep the soccer team off the field. As far as the soccer field looking better without football markings (and fieldgoal posts) I agree.....but that didn't stop the football markings on the soccer field.

IMO, football/baseball is worse than soccer/football. I dont' know what is cool about it.

BTW, I am realistic and know the soccer team will never touch that field.

Is soccer a sport?

Why mess up a real field? I look at the ones at Dublin Coffman (where they proposed having the football title games!) and Upper Arlington down here and they look absolutely awful. I'm surprised they don't superimpose a map of the USA so we can learn all of our states at the same time.

Is it really necessary to insult our girls and boys soccer teams just to make a point? I 'm pretty sure that Andrew would care less what someone posted on here since he earned himself a full scholarship to Slippery Rock for what some like to ridicule. But I bet those same people wouldn't last 5 minutes against him playing that non-sport(even in their hay day).

Good post Kamd.

Ask anyone associated with the soccer program. There is no way soccer will be played in the stadium. We all know it. We deal with it. Football is king in Tigertown and we accept it. Soccer probably wouldn't exist in Massillon (and most schools) without the revenue from football. I love watching football.

Having said that I get tired of all the people who feel the need to put down this sport and the kids who play it. I don't understand why it is attacked above all other sports.

Getting back on topic, I am curious how the numbers are put down. I thought someone mentioned that they were sewn on. I also love the endzones.

Austinsm11,

From what i can see and what i have seen in the past the area where numbers, letters, hashmarks, logos, etc is actually cut from the turf and a pre made piece is inserted, adhesive and sewn into place. again this is only what i have seen and read. there may be a better explanation elsewhere, but this may help you to understand the process.

The field looks awesome. I hope and pray there isn't a "breaking in" phase that needs to take place in order to limit injuries.
The New Orleans Saints suffered some pretty serious injuries at the begining of last season as the players got used to the new surface in "GAME SPEED" conditions. They had practiced on it several times, but when they had their home opener they had problems. Part of the problem was "breaking" the turf in, and grooming the field a few more times after games for the proper consistency.

[QUOTE=TigerVic;54191]Is soccer a sport?

I'm sorry if I insulted any soccer players. I guess being a Tiger football fan so long has made me immune to these relatively new (not historically, but to the area) sports. Also, down here, football is almost secondary to soccer/lacrosse, etc. in terms of participation.

I asked that question in jest, but it didn't come out that way in the written word.

Again, I apologize.

Kamd50
06-08-2007, 06:40 PM
That was very nice of you to offer an earnest apology,TigerVic. Kids who participate in soccer at WHS work hard at their chosen sport, as all of our other athletes do. And I am not a soccer mom but am close to several present and past soccer players and know how they feel. These kids and their sport are often targeted for ridicule undeservedly. So thank you on their behalf.

I actually like the "M' but, would have prefered Obie.

Also, I thought it was supposed to go wall to wall to cover the old track surface? What do they have planned for that. There is absolutly no shock protection for the cheerleaders now which sucks. Guess they will have to use the field more during breaks in action and no stunting what so ever on the old track in days past to be safe.
