Mentor wins 15-13. Mentor missed a couple extra points and a field goal as well. Mentor was the better team, big and matched Glenville's speed pretty well.

Boy the "G ville" just couldn't gain control over the game late esp. with 13 pen. for well over 100 yards....Well this will help us...Mentor looked pretty rusty also...but they will be read for us later in the season...

I was dissappointed in coach ginns coaching. The game is on the line and you have 12 guys on the field, thats a coaching error.

Agreed. Someone with more football knowledge than myself please tell me why the following statement is wrong. Ted Ginn Sr. is a terrible game day coach.

I saw the last 4 minutes of the game and Mentor had to drive 80 yards for a TD or get in to field goal range and they did it. I heard that the kicker had missed 2 extra points plus a field goal earlier but he made this one. We need teams to win for us as we always need the computer points. Mentor has a very good team and this will be a battle when we play them. GO TIGERS

I don't know about the rest of you, but our game against Mentor, AT Mentor, really scares me. It could be a MAJOR hurdle for us to clear. Mentor looked a little on the slow side, but they were VERY big and very strong.
I think that our offense could cause them some problems if our offensive line gels, but our defense against their offense is what bothers me at this point. It is a good thing we have several weeks to get better!!

I listened to the game on the radio, and my opinion is that both teams were VERY sloppy. I found it funny that the announcers were calling some of the Glennville players "TRANSFERS"! Where I stand those would be RECRUITS!

I had forgotten this was on FSN Ohio. Looks like the kickers had to contend with the NFL goalposts at Browns Stadium.
Off the topic, but will our Mentor game be on tape delay by FSN Ohio? I will be going crazy all that night.

No. Boardman has beaten Ignatius four, count them FOUR times. Don't EVER take Ignatius for granted. Just like Moeller that everybody is downplaying after Lakota beat them last night. They are now wounded. And THAT, my friend is dangerous. And also remember, we are MASSILLON and EVERYBODY is gunning for us. They will all have their A games on when we stroll into town.

you know st ig. will after we punked them last year in their house. man, i still keep thinking about how great that was up there. i am quite sure that i have never screamed "we are massillon", or anything else that loud in my life. lost of emotion that night - anger, elation, pride. just about everything.

Instead of acting like a kid, not to mention since your 1500 miles away and have no idea, do some research get some info about Ig and the other 9 teams on the Tiger schedule this year, then come back with your opinion.

IMHO, there is a reasonable chance that Mentor is the best team that we will play in the first 13 weeks. You better hope that we fix what ails us, as their strengths seems to point right to our weaknesses.
ref: to the Glenville team. You may have speed and some great talent, but if your coach is not up to Div. I level that can hurt. Also, you may be fast but if you can not take a hit or hit someone then that speed is not a great factor.
As for Iggy. They are down this year. They are not getting all the talent like they were use to. St. Ed's is taking some of the kids that would have gone to Iggy. But, they are still Iggy and will give us a game. Just look at Harding last year for us. That was one of our tougher games.

Watching the Glenville game, it became apparent that Ginn calls none of the offensive or defensive plays. He has no headset on and therefore no communication with the pressbox. I'm not sure if this is normal or a change from previous years.

Ginn does no coaching he only recruits. Heck, they literally had to take a timeout to take their quaterback on the sideline how to run a QB sneak. Mentor's d-line is very good. There defense is very good. Expect a very low scoring game from Mentor and Massillon.

It doesn't matter how good (or bad) Ignatius is this season. They, along with McKinley and Warren, always will play the Tigers tough. Mentor was a team named a "sleeper" by many in the offseason. I think they have people's full attention now.

I have to agree that Mentor was a nice team but I really must not have seen the game the way others have...I really didn't see Mentor as the best team we will play...I watched the entire game and really seen a lot of weaknesses on their part...I agree their D is solid but I really question them being the 3 or 4th best team we play...But we will see if a few weeks.
I know a lot of Massillon folks won't believe this, but Ignatius is not very good this year. You'll see when we visit Tigertown this year.
Boardman won 2 games in the last 2 years and while they are improved in 2006, it took a blocked FG for Ignatius to beat them.
I fully expect Massillon to win that game by 3 TDs. (or more)
Again, i know you won't believe it until you see it with your own eyes.

I also watched the Mentor/Glenville match.. Glenville is not the same Glenville as last year, and obviously Mentor is not the same either.. Mentors defense is big, quick and strong.. but remember, this is not glenvilles high powered offense of years gone by.. I think Mentors true test will come when they face a 'real' high powered offense like..uh.. oh let's see.. how about MASSILLON!!

The reason I commented about St I was because their radio broadcast team really didn't sound very confident about the team this year. They commented that the O line was smaller than in the past. Also, the quaterback they started was a senior. I might be reading too much into it, but in the past they've had a junior with loads of talent starting. I'm just thinking maybe they don't have the huge pool of talent anymore, or else the QB would be a kid they could bring along for a few years.
Of course, I don't expect them to start showing up with 185# linebackers like most other teams.

Glenville has always been one of the most talented teams in Ohio with big time players but they lack discipline and fundamentals. Offsides, two many men on the field,etc... there supposed to be better coached than that-- not just Ginn but where did he get his coaching staff? Dakota West beat Moeller and Menter beat Glenville-- all four teams still will make the playoffsand both teams still have talented and are dangerous-- and you know how they bend the rules when the TIGERS play in Cincinnati and Mentor is away also!!!!

Ginn Sr. "allows" his assistant coaches to game plan and call offensive and defensive plays during the games because he's a heck of a TRACK coach, and an even better recuiter of athletes! That's it! That's the reason he seems out of the loop during games and a big reason why G-academy will have a difficult time ever playing for a State title, let alone winning one! In other words, NO LEADERSHIP, too many chiefs, and waaaay to many egos on his sideline!
God bless em! Lets all hope Ginn Sr. is at G-academy for a long long time! He'll continue to weaken the other "powerhouses" in the greater Cleveland area with his recruiting, and he'll continue to be defeated by better coachs with lesser talent!

Kids are smart. They will realize what we all know already, you can't necessarily recruit your way to a championship. If they keep getting knocked out early by Eds, McKinley, or us.....nobody will keep going there. Give the kids some credit....all in due time!

Kids are playing schlarships in Cleveland! Those kids want to win a state championship but the main goal for Ginn and his staff is to change the kids lives in a positive direction after high school. The athletes that glenville gets are the ones with great athletic ability and cant afford to attend Iggy or Eds! I do like the fact that he is filtering the talent in Cleveland and not one school is loaded with all stars every year!!! We should of had some of our seniors on his bus tour this summer-- At least 15-25 kids recieved DI offers before the 2 weeks were up!! Sometimes in Massillon we get caught up in wins and loses-- I want every kid on that team to become a winner in the corperate world! A few championships would be nice-- can you say 23 times state champs in 2006!!! We will be ranked #1 in the state by Sept 17,2006!! Eds will lose to X and X will lose to Florida in the herbie!!!

Most people didn't give Mentor a fighting chance against Glenville in the Charity Game at Cleveland Browns Stadium but the Cardinals were determined to beat the Tarblooders and had enough points at the end to do so. It wasn't very pretty, neither side wasn't as sharp as they would have liked to have been, but Mentor drove the field and kicked a FG to earn the hard-fought 15-13 victory.

Glenville was given an educational grant in around 1999-2000 and the program started attracting Clevelands best athletes. Even in the early 90's they had talent but the coaching was not up to DI standards.

Lol Chronic! That's exactly what I was saying about them. Ginn Sr. is a very good track coach and an even better Recruiter!
BTW! I personally think X is going to have it's hands full with Lakeland Fl. They have a top 10 RB named Chris Rainey that runs a legit 4.35 (U of Fla. combine) that has commited to the U of F, another bigtime RB that runs strong between the tackles and is headed for Auburn, the Pouncey twins at OG and OT that are 300 pounders headed to the U of F, and 4 other players that have verbally commited to the U of F. Now I know the X fans may not hold the Florida Gators in as high esteem as say OSU, and they might even think that these players can't be "that good", but I assure you this situation would be comparable to 6 players from the same OHIO high school team going to OSU next year and 1 going to Michigan (meaning the Lakeland RB that's going to Auburn). I'm not certain, but I don't think OSU has ever had 6 Sr's from the same HS team commit to play football for them.
That's alot of talent, but X will have plenty of talent, and a huge home field advantage which should make for a great game!

I know I didnt say they were coached to a DI level however the athletes are DI as we see all over the OSU program. If Cleveland Glenville had a top notch coaching staff they would have already one a championship. Big games they get out coached and and make mental mistakes which still boils down to coaching. When they lost to McKinley in 04 they had close to 100 yards in offsides that cost them the game.

Very true! However Glenville and Ginn are happy with getting the schlarships and not the title! Coach Moronto called me last month to wish darion and the tigers well this season and says he would have done some things differant if the clock was rewinded! He understands now that just because you can bench 400 and weigh 320 dont make you a good football player! He said speed kills in Florida and if he had had that philosophy in Massillon he might have beat McKinley once or twice! He was a he__ of coach Sunday through Thursday!!!

He just said he would have approached it differntly! The recruits were from perry, glenoak, akron, and green a few others I might of forgot but we know 90% were terrible football players! He knew we had enough players from Massillon not to need help! When I was at Longfellow from 7th- 9th we were going undefeated in every class and he brings in recruits to clog up space and lose to Mckinley 3 straight! Remember the db's called themselves the toast bunch! I hated even going to practice my soph year because we knew they were soft-- if a few homegrown exceptions! I hope dont know one get made just telling the truth about the miserable days!
