Texas Goes Too Far, Testing High Schoolers for Steroids

By a vote of 140-4, the Texas House of Representatives has passed a bill that will make public high school athletes face mandatory random steroid testing. Unless Gov. Rick Perry vetoes the bill, Texas will begin testing tens of thousands of students at the start of the coming football season.........

Is this how they get their “great” football programs??? http://www.dachsie.org/vbb/images/smilies/hmmmm.gif

From the comments after the article it does sound like there is a big problem.

(and still baseball can’t get Barry Bonds)…..

The only students who need to be worried are those on the juice!

This will NOT uphold in court, watch and see. You cannot pinpoint an entire sport or an individual for steroids with no proof of usage or abuse without testing all sports. Trust me, I know/knew a lot of soccer players and tennis players that smoked a lot of weed, ohhh but lets worry about football players. Also, they will not even come near having enough money to test for growth hormone, so the kids will still be able to use that. GH is hard to get a test result on number one and number two the test can cost up to $1,000 per test. If I was a parent in that district and they wanted to test my kid, they would have to test everyone in the entire district.

And they MAY, my friend before it's all said and done.

Hope Massillon is next to do random drug testing on all of our athletes. Too many kids drinking and smoking pot. It is a deterrant and needs to be done in this day and age. They know they can get a way with it with no penalties. I hope Fred Blosser and Tim Ridgley get on this.

Test every single student, or dont test anyone.

I'd rather see them test for pot and alcohol than steroids. The abuse, not just use, is rampant among kids.

i think its a safety thing you should test your athletes i know a bunch of kids on the current team that juice its unfair to the honest hard working kids on the team or around the state that do it the RIGHT WAY! if your on steriods or your kids on steriods and you know it you should be shot because it will be alot more humane than how you'll have to die when your 40 from all diff types of cancer

i say the sooner they start testing here the better and it would be an excellent idea to start with athletes and then move to the vocational classes or other areas were your physical well-being is at stake

I seriously doubt this statement. And even if you do, you have just told yourself what should happen to you if you don't say something. You're just like them and should be SHOT. Somebody hand me my Glock.

I SERIOUSLY doubt it too! And you seriously should think about being able to back a statement up like that with some facts and proof before you go putting that in type in a public forum.

You start testing for weed and the tigers would be something like 3-7 average the last 10 years. I understand maybe testing for steriods but only if it is every sport but the alcohol/weed thing has been going down in HS for 100 years and none of us is going to stop it. Most HS Athletic organizations will not back either IMO.

I don't think mike da man you really think that we have a steroid problem in tigertown. Stop tripping dude!!
